"You’d be hard pressed to find a more luxurious stay in the heart of the city than the Shangri-LaChiang Mai. Here, the 281 palatial rooms have all the modern comforts you crave—air-conditioning, flat-screen televisions, bathrooms with separate tubs and showers—yet are elegantly appointed with silk pillows and artwork that nods to regional design. You might never leave if it weren’t for the canopied daybeds and umbrella-shaded chaises in the pool area, or the Lanna-inspired treatments in the spa, bordered by manicured gardens and a peaceful lotus pond. The hotel also claims one of the city’s best brunch buffets, a dizzying display of international cuisine from sushi to fresh-baked croissants."

The six of us (4 adults 2 children) enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are a very high standard. The pool is great and the water slide was enjoyed by all. Breakfast was decent, quite busy by 8am. The kids club was a bit disappointing, very little Investment in the facilities compared to other hotels we stayed in. We drove to the hotel but found it to be a little far away from the places we ended up visiting.

One of the best hotel we visited as a family. We took the two connecting rooms, city side and also pool side, and they both were great. Friendly service everywhere good breakfast and great location - less than 10min walk from the night market. We also had massage at the Chi Spa twice as they were so good. The only downside that sometimes there’s a smell of sewage in some parts of the swimming pool, especially in the resting areas, so you need to find other beds…

The expectations were pretty high considering the brand name - but unfortunately, aside from specifically the concierge service, I wasn’t impressed. It’s well located, and lots of things to do and visit within walking distance. The rooms (5th floor) are pretty outdated and there was a serious moldy smell for the first 4 days (which took daily complaining to eventually get it fixed). The pool grounds are nice and spacious, but (I assume) the amount of beds can’t hold full occupancy of the hotel. The breakfast is nice and offers wide varieties. The lobby restaurant menu (specially for vegetarians) isn’t too impressive.

Our stay was unfortunately far from pleasant. To begin with, our shower had a serious leak, which caused water to spill all over the bathroom floor. As a result, I slipped and injured myself. When I reported this to the front desk assistant, there was absolutely no empathy or concern—just a cold, “I’ll let the technicians know.” No apology, no offer to help, and no follow-up on my condition. The hotel walls are paper-thin. We were kept awake by children running and yelling in the hallways past 10 PM. It took three noise complaints before anything was done. In the mornings, we could hear every conversation from the hallway and constant door slamming. Our room itself was very dated and had a strong, moldy smell. We also noticed multiple humidifiers running in the hallways, which was unsettling and made the air feel damp and uncomfortable. To top it off, when we asked about a late checkout, the front desk staff member actually laughed in my face before dismissively saying, “We’re fully booked.” His rudeness was shocking and completely unprofessional. Overall, the hotel failed to meet even the most basic expectations. Between the unsafe conditions, noise issues, outdated and smelly rooms, and the incredibly rude staff, we left feeling extremely disappointed. I would not recommend staying here.

We stayed at the Shangri-La Chiang Mai in July 2025 with my wife and daughter. We arrived at the hotel and were whisked up to the Horizon Club Lounge to complete our check in. Staff were more than capable in letting us know that our daughter was not included on the package deal that we purchased and that we would need to spend extra for the additional dining inclusions. This was our mistake but was explained well to us by the Club Lounge Staff.||The Club facilities are really good. Not the most extensive food selection that we have had in a Club Lounge but the quality of the food (Especially the pastries) was really nice.||Our Horizon Club Room was huge with plenty of room for the three of us. My daughter is quite tall and her bed was just enough in length for her to sleep well.||We spent most of our days out and about exploring Chiang Mai's Old City and markets but we tried to get back to use the Club facilities when we could. Unfortunately, there was a large family group that was staying at the hotel who allowed their children to use the Club Lounge as a play area and never educated their children in how to handle food at buffets and be considerate of other people. Several times we either had to speak to the kids when the ball that they were playing with in the lounge went under our table and we suddenly had one or more kids crawling under our feet in a battle to be the first to retrieve their ball. More importantly was the lack of instruction from the parents of these kids when picking up food with their hands and holding it to their faces to sniff, then placing it back. If it wasn't at the Club Lounge we would encounter the same family at breakfast and sometimes at dinner. It made a lot of guests uncomfortable and we decided to inform the Club Lounge Staff as we could not put up with it and would leave the lounge. Staff were accommodating to us and stated that they would inform management. However unfortunately, nothing appeared to be said to the family as their behaviour continued to disrupt guests up until we left.||On a more positive note, the hotel grounds and pool area are great for families. The hotel has one of the largest pools with a decent water slide. We had a great day relaxing after our tours.||The location is quiet as the hotel is positioned about a 10 min walk to the night markets and about 20 min from the Old City. We would catch Tuk-Tuk or Grabs depending on where we went most of the time.||We did appreciate the hotel. Rooms are nice and big. The views from the club lounge are great (as long as you dont look too long at the condo apartment building next door - its not very aesthetic) and staff are more than helpful (Especially Babe at the Breakfast Service who recommended us to visit Baan Kang Wat and Jing Jai Markets. We went back to Bann Kang Wat twice as it was so lovely.||Maybe we would have appreciated it more if people would respect other guests.

Shangri-La Chiang Mai is a great place, especially for families. My son absolutely loved it — the pool with slides was a highlight. The staff were kind and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast à la carte was very good, but the buffet could be improved given the hotel’s high standard. The location is very convenient. We truly enjoyed our time here and were sorry to leave.

I witnessed a couple of minor injuries involving children at the pool. While not serious, they happened more than once, suggesting that safety measures may need review. The staff response also felt limited, possibly due to a lack of a proper first aid kit. As we usually choose hotels with pools for our kids, this made us feel a bit uneasy. We only requested room cleaning once during our stay, and while the room appeared generally tidy, the floor seemed untouched—there were visible hairs left, which was disappointing.

Brilliant! Not the cheapest hotel but I did feel I got value for money. All the staff l met were exceptional in doing their jobs but Rak in reception was particularly helpful. In room amenities were generous, and the hotel facilities were extensive and well cared for. I would happily stay here again and recommend it to those who want a stress free stay in Chiang Mai.
