Shangri La Hotel Lhasa

If you are looking for an outstanding 5 -star experience, you will be disappointed. Yes, the hotel is older, and in need of refurbishment. Many areas are showing some age, and there is a heaviness to the decor that could be modernized. I was surprised that my room DID NOT have a bathtub, as I have never encountered a bathless bathroom in a 5-star product. The hotel is not in keeping with the average Shangri-la, but it represents the feel of Lhasa as Lhasa is not a metropolis city.||I found the food, and service to be professional, the response to any request timely, and the atmosphere perfect for Lhasa. There are some English-speaking personnel, but communication was not hindered by this, as everyone I encountered was pleasant and went out of their way to assist. ||The caveat of this diminished product is that it is not as expensive in many areas. The Spa services were much less as well as the Spa merchandise. Yes, there is still the overpriced hotel shop that sells items you will find much cheaper elsewhere, but it gives you an opportunity to review pricing in advance. There is a modest gym, and all other outlets were 'ok' as well.||I would definitely return to this Hotel if in Lhasa with the understanding that the hotel reflects the area and is not a sparkling representative of Shangri-la. It feels like an old special organic hotel that pampers you true to the spirit of Tibet.

Great hotel to stay at Lhasa. Room was comfortable and rid of cigarette smells (unlike many others I had stayed in Lingzhi or Shigatse). Equipped with oxygen generator and humidifier - very helpful to have for Lhasa stay. Grand lobby, beautiful deco. Breakfast was average though. Noodle station overcooked every bowl of noodles I ordered during my 3 days stay there. Located in downtown Lhasa. Easy to get to anywhere by Didi.

I've stayed at many Shangri La hotels and I expected more from the Shangri La Lhasa. The room was functional and house keeping was good. That's about where the positives end. The hotel needs a complete refurbishment. Carpets in the rooms and hallways are ripped and stained. Most furniture in the public areas is old and dirty. There's lots of brown wood paneling throughout the hotel that looks like it dates back to the 1970's. In my opinion, the service was lacking and not up to five star standards. For example, I visit the lobby lounge and no staff come to take my order. Instead, I have to hunt down an employee who most times is playing on her cell phone. Most employees at the hotel don't speak English which is frustrating. The hotel caters to tour groups and the breakfast buffet can become a feeding frenzy. Overall, the hotel served as a place to eat and sleep but the five star service of going the extra mile was non-existent.

Stayed for 3 nights while touring in Lhasa. The room was large and comfortable with lots of storage. The staff was very helpful and some were fluent in English. There were very large buffets and other restaurants/bars.

I had a really positive experience during my stay, thanks to the amazing service from Danny and Bowen at the front desk. They were incredibly helpful, professional, and patient — solving my issues quickly and making sure everything was taken care of. Their friendly attitude and willingness to go the extra mile truly made a difference. Big thanks to both of them for making my stay so smooth and enjoyable! Highly appreciate the excellent service!

One of the oldest and busiest 5 star hotels. Well organised friendly and large rooms . All equipped with oxygen concentrator and humidifiers. Food and buffet are great.

TLDR: good but not great ||Service: Overall, service felt extremely transactional; staff at breakfast, housekeeping and the spa were rushing us and weren’t the warmest or most knowledgeable. I was lucky that I spoke Mandarin; however others in my group did not and I can safely say English ability amongst the staff was almost non-existent — with the exception of a few front desk staff. Pretty surprising given Shangri-la is such a global brand. I also caught staff on their phone while they were working and this was again, pretty surprising for a luxury property.||Rooms: Rooms are beautiful but slightly dated and in need of a face lift. Lots of lovely details. ||Breakfast: Average at best; there was a good variety of Chinese/Asian/Western options but quality wasn’t that consistent. Didn’t try the other F&B options.

Lovely hotel in Lhasa. Just a few km from the Potala Palace and other attractions. Restaurant serves buffet meals with local options as well as traditional Chinese and some Western fare.
