My recent stay at Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi was a blend of serene luxury and a few unexpected service hiccups. The property is visually stunning – traditional Arabian architecture, gorgeous views of the Grand Mosque, peaceful canals with Abra rides, and a calming resort vibe that makes it feel like a true retreat from city life.
The rooms were spacious and well-appointed, and the ambiance across the resort was relaxing. One highlight was the health club, which includes a well-maintained pool, sauna, and jacuzzi, and remains open until 11 PM – a perfect way to unwind late into the evening.
However, a few areas really missed the mark:
• Vegetarian dining was shockingly poor. At their main restaurant Sofra BLD, there were hardly any options for vegetarians. Despite informing the staff of my dietary preference, they served me chicken Alfredo pasta. When I asked for alternatives, they brought the poolside snack menu instead – which felt out of place and disappointing for a luxury property. A special mention to Mr. Vishal Sharma, who was kind enough to offer complimentary tea, coffee, or water to make up for the inconvenience, but it still highlighted a clear gap in their menu planning.
• Checkout was chaotic. We called for a bellboy multiple times, but no one arrived for at least 20 minutes. To make matters worse, even after we had checked out and were halfway to Dubai, I received calls from the reservations team asking if we had checked out – which was honestly frustrating.
Despite these hiccups, the resort has a lot to offer in terms of ambiance, comfort, and relaxation. I hope they work on improving vegetarian dining options and tighten up service coordination, especially at checkout.

A scenic and peaceful staycation spot with many positives, but some service areas definitely need polishing.
