Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang

"Located on the northern tip of Penang Island, off Malaysia's western coast, Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort has all the trappings of an outsized luxury resort without the crowds. Rooms are split between the low-key Garden Wing, with its surplus of family-friendly rooms and suites, and the exclusive, more buttoned-up Rasa Wing (the latter has private access and a lounge with a dress code). While the colonial George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just a complimentary shuttle ride away, there are plenty of diversions available on the hotel grounds itself: A short list includes multiple swimming pools, a par 3 putt-and-pitch golf course, and Chi, an 11-villa spa set in a secluded corner of the resort offering traditional Malay and Chinese treatments." - Betsy Blumenthal

The hotel location is superb right by the beach and you can do all sorts of water activities from the third parties from the beach. The hotel is well maintained and covers a large expanse. Spa service was excellent as well. The breakfast buffet was good and has more Asian options. however, i felt the spread lacked a bit of variety and choices. It seemed that one of the shift managers during breakfast catered or assisted guests of certain races more than others on one day + this was a bit off-putting for me. Reception staff can do a better job with welcoming guests upon their arrival as they are our first contact with any hotel and their behavior sometimes set the tone of our stay. All other staff members were friendly and professional.

An outstanding resort where you instantly feel relaxed on entering the lobby. The amenities are excellent, surpassed only by the team of exceptional people they have working here. We ate in 2 of the restaurants (the Spice Market and Pinang) for dinner, and had in room dining also; the food was beautifully prepared and tasted superb; the waiting team are exceptional. Breakfast in the Spice Market was one of the best buffets I've had the opportunity to enjoy with a huge range, freshly cooked and always welcomed by their friendly team. Our room.was always cleaned and prepared with a high attention to detail by Dulal our attendant; who always greeted us with a smile when we saw him and he always asked if we needed anything. We also indulged in the Chi Spa and our treatments were amazing. This resort is very deserving of 5 stars and I highly recommend; we look forward to returning hopefully in the future!

Loved this place! Top notch accommodation for a quiet stop over on the way to or on the way back from somewhere. I was there 4 nights- plenty enough. Beautiful grounds, staff, food, rooms. Unlike its neighbouring sister resort, this place seemed less busy and less hectic especially around the pool. Warning- if you decide to have a deep tissue massage, ask for the lightest on offer...I was in pain for days!😂 Highly recommend this stunning resort.

everything about this place was just perfect! The view was absolutely stunning, whether it was sunrise, sunset, or just a quiet moment during the day, I couldn’t stop admiring the natural beauty all around. It’s the kind of place that makes you pause, breathe deeply, and feel completely at peace. The room was just as impressive, clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed for comfort. From the cozy bed to the beautiful decor, every detail made the stay feel special. I loved the private balcony, it really added to the whole experience. The resort itself has a calm and peaceful vibe, perfect for escaping from the busyness of daily life. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, enjoying the scenery, or just unwinding in your room, it’s a place that lets you truly recharge. The staff were also friendly and attentive, making sure everything was smooth from check-in to check-out. I’ve stayed in a few resorts, but this one truly stands out. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic, and unforgettable getaway! Thank you so much for the lovely birthday cake 🎂

Beautiful hotel, perfectly landscaped gardens, tranquil atmosphere and warm gracious hospitality. We’ve been coming to the Rasa Sayang for more than 10 years, and have loved every visit. The staff are always kind and friendly. There is a genuine warmth when you visit here. The food is always delicious and the hotel is incredibly well maintained. The rooms are getting a little run down after many years wear and tear, but very minor relative to the overall experience. The gym is also excellent. Special thanks to Munir in housekeeping for impeccable service, Ila in the spice market cafe for her gentle hospitality and Rubben, Devan and Veronica in the lobby for their greetings

The beach access is super long but the beach is steep and thin. Erosion over time cannot be predicted but there are many factors that make this place a winner nonetheless. The service was top notch. It is Shangrilla after all. They take care of you. The guest experience - we were fed breakfast and cocktail/ high tea. There are snacks and plenty of water in the room. This is definitely not the case in most hotels. The facilities - huge and complete gym, spa, swimming pools, and a few restaurants. So even the weather has become inclement and not conducive for outdoor fun, there are things to do. The room was spacious. Dated but comfortable and well maintained.

Our room service attendant—whose name I, unfortunately, can’t recall—was absolutely outstanding. We were staying in room 1525, and he was thoughtful, friendly, attentive, and a genuine pleasure to deal with throughout our stay. He consistently greeted us with a warm smile and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. His attention to detail was exceptional, and he met all of our requests with genuine care and professionalism. It’s rare to encounter such a high standard of service. Truly excellent in every

Excellent stay. Gorgeous room offers privacy and fantastic sea views. Buffet breakfast with a good spread and best of all the staff was attentive and friendly. Efficient service throughout and the beautiful grounds were well maintained. A little dated but still a 5 star rating. A special mention for a special staff, Ms Revathy. Courteous, knowledgeable, helpful and genuine.

Yelp
This is a quiet and relaxing resort for a break from our hectic vacation :-). We spent 2 nights here and enjoyed it thoroughly. We missed the cooking demonstration - so if that is your thing, ask for it upon checking in so you can plan around your schedule. The restaurants were good for lunch and dinner. The breakfast were awesome. The seafood buffet, only available on the weekends, was a must try. If you gauge this place with US dollar standard, then it is a great value - but very expensive for local standard.

Yelp
I agree with other reviewer that this hotel is pretty expensive according to local standards, but if you compare it to the US hotel prices, this hotel is an extremely good bang for your buck. Not only are there so many good amenities, but the hotel itself is just overall very luxurious and overlooks the penang oceanfront. There is complementary breakfast, afternoon, tea, and dinner, which is amazing that afternoon tea is so high quality and comes complementary with a hotel stay. They also deliver fresh fruit to your room. The only thing that I didn't like was how the ocean front wasn't very well-maintained. I understand that this is pretty much out of control for the hotel, but if you're coming here, don't expect a luxurious beach experience. I wasn't too upset because I came mainly for the resort, but, the beach itself is very dirty and polluted. I think the government needs to do better regulation, because a lot of the boating and rental jetties are causing a lot of oil, pollution by the bayfront, and sometimes the ocean will smell very bad from all of the JetSki's zooming right next to the shore. This is also very dangerous for swimmers. The pool is OK, some weird people, but overall OK.

Yelp
One of the most memorable things about our trip to Penang was not the food as oftentimes talked about. It was the spa experience at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang. You really cant ask for much more in life than an hour long of pampering in the spa. The hotel grounds is beautiful with its own beach access. The couples bungalow is luxurious with its own indoors and outdoors bathing facilities. The masseurs are very friendly and courteous. Depending on your selected package, the scrubs and wraps are truly amazing. The massages are heavenly. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Overlooking a scenic stretch of Batu Feringgi Beach at the Pinang Restaurant and Bar, we had a very nice relaxing lunch here during our visit to Penang. Trees provided nice shade and breeze from the ocean created heavenly atmosphere. I started my lunch with See Breeze, it was just what I needed to quench my thirst from walking around as a tourist. I had vegetable curry and my partner had Chicken Curry "Kapitan". Both were spicy and flavorful. Right amount of portion size was just what we needed to leave room for dinner (as it was late lunch). Service we received was excellent. We arrived shortly after lunch rush (I think), and they were not crowded at all. Server gave us enough space for us to enjoy our time together yet he stayed close enough to come back to take additional orders for more drinks when we wanted. Although we did not stay at this hotel but we surely enjoyed Shangri-La's high quality service during our short visit during lunch.

Yelp
Tried the lunch menu at spice market restaurant. The restaurant is popular with the buffet at night. Lunch menu included local hawker foods like penang Laksa, char kuey teow which is a bit pricey and not really worth it. So instead of hawker foods, I prefer indian cuisine with different naan bread serve with the lentil and curry dip. It was alright..my favourite dishes is butter chicken and the mixed vegetables fried rice. This restaurant specialises in buffet dinner, it is advisable to check if there any offer prices before you booked as it is not cheap. If you are buffet fans, this is the place for you.
