Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang

"Located on the northern tip of Penang Island, off Malaysia's western coast, Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort has all the trappings of an outsized luxury resort without the crowds. Rooms are split between the low-key Garden Wing, with its surplus of family-friendly rooms and suites, and the exclusive, more buttoned-up Rasa Wing (the latter has private access and a lounge with a dress code). While the colonial George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just a complimentary shuttle ride away, there are plenty of diversions available on the hotel grounds itself: A short list includes multiple swimming pools, a par 3 putt-and-pitch golf course, and Chi, an 11-villa spa set in a secluded corner of the resort offering traditional Malay and Chinese treatments." - Betsy Blumenthal

Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa (Penang, Malaysia) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Once known as the Pearl of the Orient, Penang has the rain forest–fringed beaches, sun-dappled horizon, and delicate breezes you’d expect from a destination worthy of such an epithet. The sea really is the color of shimmering sapphires; the distant hills do sparkle like emeralds. The Shangri-La Rasa Sayang also shines, in its way, another jewel in Malaysia’s burgeoning luxury tourism crown. Imagine a diamond in the rough — if your idea of “rough” includes three swimming pools, 30 landscaped acres, and unfettered access to the soft sands and warm waves at the famed Batu Ferringi beaches. Let’s just say it’s all quite dazzling." - Tablet Hotels

Me and my husband had wonderful experience staying in. Complimentary drinks, simple snack and refreshing towel provided by them upon arrival. Hotel room and common areas are clean and well-maintained. One of your staff (masum? If i’m not wrong) we’re very nice and friendly. The breakfast is also superb. Probably one of my favourite hotel so far.

Love this hotel even though its out of the way and the road to access is always jammed. The rooms are spacious. The pool is nice. Its near the beach. There's a huge spread for Breakfast. Love the gym. Staff are well trained, helpful and friendly. What is there not to like?

What a delightful hotel. Definitely 5 star, along with the room rate! It is right on the beach at the eastern end of Batu Feringghi, walking distance to food stalls, restaurants, night market and there's an ATM in the Petronas service station - don't use the one at Golden Sands, there is a hefty fee associated with it. The bus stop to Georgetown and Teluk Bahang is right near the driveway entrance, so very convenient.||The Rasa has a fabulous buffet breakfast, the quantity and variety of food on offer is simply amazing. The pool area is beautifully maintained with plenty of banana lounges, within the sun and shade, and the gardens are beautiful. Our room was spacious, with KS bed, seating area, balcony and roomy bathroom. Everything worked, we have no criticism at all.||A walk along the beach path will take you to the sister hotel, Golden Sands, a paradise for families with a children's pool, entertainment centre and casual dining. One word of warning, the monkeys will get into your room if you leave your door open- it doesn't matter which floor or wing you are on.||Our Garden Wing room overlooked the pool area and the beach - a stunning view by day and night. We chose not to eat or drink and pay exhorbitant prices ++ given food/drinks are available a short walk away.||The Rasa Wing, located next to the Garden Wing, is more expensive with restricted pool (adults only), and drinks/snacks included.||We've loved our stay, we'd highly recommend it.

Check-in took slightly longer than expected as the system was down, and I personally felt it was unnecessary to still request guests’ NRICs at that stage. However, the welcome drink was refreshing and set a pleasant tone for the stay. Special thanks to Mr. Sulaiman, F&B Director, for his excellent arrangement of the room, cake, fruits, and wine to make up for the minor hiccup during check-in — a thoughtful gesture that truly reflected Shangri-La’s hospitality. The room was spacious and beautifully prepared, and the breakfast spread was outstanding — easily one of the best I’ve had. Overall, great service and a memorable stay despite the small check-in delay. Kudos to the team for maintaining the Shangri-La standard of warmth and excellence.

The perfect spot to come too for a relaxing and tranquil rest. The Management and Staff were excellent and could not do enough for you. Our experience was enhanced by partaking of the breakfast/afternoon tea and evening cocktails package which negated the need to leave the Hotel and allowed us to enjoy the full gambit of the Shangri La service.

Alright, so it was my first time ever in Penang, and honestly, staying at the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang was an absolute game-changer. We splurged a bit on the Rasa Wing Junior Suite, and seriously, the whole experience was just amazing from start to finish.||The room itself? Super spacious. But the bathroom, man, that was huge! Rain shower, those fancy John Masters Organics amenities – felt pretty luxurious. And the bed was ridiculously comfy, slept like a baby. Oh, and having a bathroom right on the terrace? That was a cool, unique touch.||One of the best parts was definitely the Rasa Wing pool. It’s exclusive to Rasa Wing guests over 16, which meant it was never crowded, always chill and quiet. Perfect for just unwinding. Then, in the evenings, catching the sunset at Pinang Restaurant and Bar with a cocktail or a beer (they had a great selection, by the way) was just epic.||Big shoutout to all the staff too; everyone was so friendly and genuinely helpful, especially the crew at the Rasa Wing Lounge. They really made us feel welcome. And you absolutely cannot leave without trying Chi, The Spa. That Asian Blend Massage? Pure bliss, seriously relaxing and comforting. It was the perfect way to wrap up the holiday.||Honestly, I can’t recommend this resort enough. Already itching to go back anytime soon!

Yelp
This is a quiet and relaxing resort for a break from our hectic vacation :-). We spent 2 nights here and enjoyed it thoroughly. We missed the cooking demonstration - so if that is your thing, ask for it upon checking in so you can plan around your schedule. The restaurants were good for lunch and dinner. The breakfast were awesome. The seafood buffet, only available on the weekends, was a must try. If you gauge this place with US dollar standard, then it is a great value - but very expensive for local standard.

Yelp
I agree with other reviewer that this hotel is pretty expensive according to local standards, but if you compare it to the US hotel prices, this hotel is an extremely good bang for your buck. Not only are there so many good amenities, but the hotel itself is just overall very luxurious and overlooks the penang oceanfront. There is complementary breakfast, afternoon, tea, and dinner, which is amazing that afternoon tea is so high quality and comes complementary with a hotel stay. They also deliver fresh fruit to your room. The only thing that I didn't like was how the ocean front wasn't very well-maintained. I understand that this is pretty much out of control for the hotel, but if you're coming here, don't expect a luxurious beach experience. I wasn't too upset because I came mainly for the resort, but, the beach itself is very dirty and polluted. I think the government needs to do better regulation, because a lot of the boating and rental jetties are causing a lot of oil, pollution by the bayfront, and sometimes the ocean will smell very bad from all of the JetSki's zooming right next to the shore. This is also very dangerous for swimmers. The pool is OK, some weird people, but overall OK.

Yelp
One of the most memorable things about our trip to Penang was not the food as oftentimes talked about. It was the spa experience at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang. You really cant ask for much more in life than an hour long of pampering in the spa. The hotel grounds is beautiful with its own beach access. The couples bungalow is luxurious with its own indoors and outdoors bathing facilities. The masseurs are very friendly and courteous. Depending on your selected package, the scrubs and wraps are truly amazing. The massages are heavenly. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Overlooking a scenic stretch of Batu Feringgi Beach at the Pinang Restaurant and Bar, we had a very nice relaxing lunch here during our visit to Penang. Trees provided nice shade and breeze from the ocean created heavenly atmosphere. I started my lunch with See Breeze, it was just what I needed to quench my thirst from walking around as a tourist. I had vegetable curry and my partner had Chicken Curry "Kapitan". Both were spicy and flavorful. Right amount of portion size was just what we needed to leave room for dinner (as it was late lunch). Service we received was excellent. We arrived shortly after lunch rush (I think), and they were not crowded at all. Server gave us enough space for us to enjoy our time together yet he stayed close enough to come back to take additional orders for more drinks when we wanted. Although we did not stay at this hotel but we surely enjoyed Shangri-La's high quality service during our short visit during lunch.

Yelp
Tried the lunch menu at spice market restaurant. The restaurant is popular with the buffet at night. Lunch menu included local hawker foods like penang Laksa, char kuey teow which is a bit pricey and not really worth it. So instead of hawker foods, I prefer indian cuisine with different naan bread serve with the lentil and curry dip. It was alright..my favourite dishes is butter chicken and the mixed vegetables fried rice. This restaurant specialises in buffet dinner, it is advisable to check if there any offer prices before you booked as it is not cheap. If you are buffet fans, this is the place for you.
