I will start by saying that our stay at Sharq Village, Ritz-Carlton Hotel was quite simply the best vacation I have ever had. While the location, facilities, and overall quality of the property are outstanding, the defining factor of our experience was, without question, the Guest Relations Team.
I organised this trip as part of my mother’s recovery from cancer. Prior to our arrival, I received an email from Guest Relations, and I shared with them the reason for our visit. What followed was an act of kindness and thoughtfulness that neither of us will ever forget.
When we arrived at the hotel, my mother found her bedroom beautifully prepared with flowers, balloons, and a cake—all in pink, the colour symbolising cancer survivorship. She was completely overwhelmed. She had not expected any special treatment, let alone something so heartfelt, tasteful, and emotionally meaningful.
From that moment on, the entire holiday exceeded all expectations.
The hotel itself is stunning. The property offers everything one could need to relax and truly disconnect: exceptional restaurants, beautiful swimming pools, and a serene waterfront setting. We were generously upgraded to an apartment-style suite with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, and three balconies—it was spacious, elegant, and incredibly comfortable.
The location is also ideal, positioned perfectly between the city and the airport and close to the National Museum of Qatar (an absolute must-see). This made it easy to explore Doha while still enjoying a peaceful retreat, and ensured a smooth departure at the end of our stay.
That said, as wonderful as the hotel is, it is ultimately just a building.
What transformed it into a warm, safe, and home-like space was the people—specifically the Guest Relations Team. Their attention to detail, genuine care, and constant (yet never intrusive) check-ins made us feel truly looked after. Every need was anticipated, every request handled with grace. They turned what could have been just a hotel stay into a deeply personal and memorable family vacation.
I would like to acknowledge several team members who made a lasting impression on us: Anisha at check-in, Bander, Lili, Agustina, Diana, Ahmad, Yalda, and Filippo, one of the breakfast managers. Each of them contributed to an experience that was consistently warm, professional, and exceptional.
However, there is one person I would like to single out.
Mrs. Rail Lucas gave far more than 100% every single day. Our stay—and indeed the entire trip—would not have been the same without her. She met with us daily, ensured we had everything we needed, organised our dinners, recommended places to visit in the city, and always made time for a conversation, despite managing many other guests. She made us feel genuinely special, while continuously crediting her team rather than herself.
In my professional life, I manage a large team, and I recognise true leadership when I see it. Mrs. Rail is a natural leader and an exceptional team player. What sets her apart is her sincerity. In hospitality, it is not uncommon for managers to act in ways designed to elicit positive feedback—but Mrs. Rail was different. She genuinely cared. Her kindness, patience, and authenticity were evident in every interaction, and she never once made the experience about herself.
If you are staying at the Ritz-Carlton Sharq Village in Doha, I truly hope you have the opportunity to meet Mrs. Rail. If you do, please say hello from me.
And to Mrs. Rail directly:
You made my mother smile again—and that is the greatest gift I could ever ask for. Thank you.
