What in the Oregon Trail! Ha, what an experience! I was a solo traveler, staying in the sheep's wagon, and I must say, 10/10 experience! I felt safe, the shared bathroom areas were clean, functional, and comfortable, and my accommodation in the wagon was veryyyy comfortable + spacious. The hosts even offered to have a traditional Navajo dinner prepared and delivered to the Reservation which was convenient. Please do not hesitate booking - this was a beautiful experience being amongst nature, simplicity and beauty.

I am grateful for the opportunity to stay in a traditional Navajo hogan. Though considered rustic by some, staying here was not a sacrifice at all; it was a gift. The hogan itself was very beautiful and very well built. Inside, it was perfectly quiet, even with a wind blowing outside, as is usually the case with earthen homes. The surrounding scenery was gorgeous, as you are able to see beginnings of the Grand Canyon. I took advantage of the walking trail that skirts the perimeter of the property, and felt like the only person on the whole planet. In meeting and talking with Paul and Baya, I found they were both very friendly and easy to talk to. I am glad I got to know them a little bit, and chat. If I'm ever in the Page area again, I would definitely stay at the Shash Dine hogan.

This place was absolutely wonderful! We booked through a travel agency app, but due to an app error, we didn't receive contact from the owner. We were supposed to check in by 6 PM, but we ended up arriving around 7 PM. Despite that, the owner kindly guided us to our tent and explained all the rules. There was no electricity in the tent, but a lovely lamp was provided. Most importantly, the interior design was so stylish, it almost made us forget we were in the middle of the Navajo Nation! But one look outside, and the stunning Navajo landscape immediately captivated us. It was dry and windy that day, so cooking was prohibited due to fire restrictions, but we enjoyed some sliced tomatoes with cheese. The showers and toilets were clean and easy to use, though the toilet was a bit far from the tent. At night, the stars were incredibly beautiful, and the sunrise was equally stunning. Then, at 7 AM, the owner prepared Navajo tea, cowboy coffee, and a simple breakfast for us. We learned how to say "good morning" and "thank you" in Navajo, and when we told the owner, they smiled. We still use those words at home, that's how great our stay was! Ahehee' (Thank you), Nízhónígo (Beautifully).

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend a night under the stars in a sheepherder’s covered wagon in the vast Navajo land within a short walk of stunning views of the Grand Canyon’s northern rim! Baya guided us in from the highway and showed us to our covered wagon, snugly outfitted with a warm, immaculate bed, a powerful lantern and even some games and sweets. Other amenities in this eco-retreat included a communal firepit, a warm shower, outdoor toilets and a simple breakfast. Best of all, a billion stars showed off their humbling majesty! An amazing destination!

I just want to start with the owner of this incredible place Baya. Shes very informative, accommodating and welcoming. This entire experience was short but left a huge impact. My husband and I have traveled so much and this is definitely on our top 3. We brought our little ones with us. It was very comfortable. The bedding was so soft. Packed with so many attention to details. The bathroom is so clean and the shower is modern with a beautiful view. This is a very quick access to Horseshoe Bend/Lake Powell/Antelope Canyon even Monument Valley. This is the epitome of the greater south west experience. The desert gets cold at night but those blankets they provided was comfy. At night we were surrounded by stars and a clear view of the milky way. We saw a couple of shooting stars. Thank you for welcoming us into your working farm. We will definitely comeback again and longer and even bring people with us. This is a great place for group of people who likes solitude and quiet time from this modern world.

My kids and I throughly enjoyed our stay. We had the privilege of sleeping in the Hogan. If you are looking for an experience in an authentic Dine’ hogan this is the place! The craftsmanship is amazing. The view from the ridge is worth the walk, and the stars at night are spectacular. The outhouse was very clean as were the showers. We traveled the southwest through 5 states and this was definitely our favorite and most memorable place we stayed.

My wife and I stayed here recently, and it was nothing short of magical. The location is peaceful and beautifully remote — the kind of place where you can truly disconnect from the noise and reconnect with each other. One of the most unforgettable moments was stargazing at night. With no city lights around, the sky came alive. We lay back and watched a blanket of stars above us — something you just can’t experience in most places anymore. The cabin was cozy, clean, and thoughtfully prepared. You can tell the hosts put real care into every detail. And the complimentary breakfast in the morning? Simple, fresh, and exactly what we needed to start the day — not too heavy, but just right. This isn’t just a place to sleep. It’s an experience. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway where nature takes center stage, don’t think twice — book it. We’re already planning to come back.

Visiting Shash Dine’ EcoRetreat was game-changing. We were welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality from the moment we arrived. Located in the stunning landscapes of the Navajo Nation, this is not just a place to stay—it’s an experience. The accommodations are beautifully thought out—comfortable, authentic, and perfectly blended with the surrounding land. Waking up to the sunrise over the mesas and falling asleep under the brilliant night sky filled with stars was unforgettable. It’s the peace and beauty you don’t find in typical travel destinations. What truly sets Shash Dine apart is the cultural richness. Paul and Baya share stories, traditions, and history that deepen your appreciation for Navajo culture and the land itself. You leave not only relaxed and recharged, but also with a greater sense of connection and respect for the people and the place. If you’re looking for a meaningful, off-the-beaten-path adventure—one that combines comfort, natural beauty, and cultural depth—Shash Dine should be at the top of your list. It’s more than a retreat; it’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave.

Yelp
What it lacks for in electricity and running water it makes up for in authenticity, great views, and a cozy abode. We arrived just before sunset (as directed) so we could get settled before the night engulfed us. Greeted by the friendliest group of Great Pyrenees and our host, Baya, we were given a small tour of the land and area that would be our home for the night. The sun set quickly but luckily we came prepared with camping lights, and the hut we stayed in had a solar light as well as plenty of candles to create a warm ambiance for us to enjoy our dinner to. Guided by the soft lights around us we played a few games of crazy eights with the provided cards and eventually brought out our telescope to get a good look at the night sky. Being so far from civilization and light pollution we were able to see so many stars. Like really, more stars than we have ever seen, white milky way dust filtering the sky and draping us in the humbling experience of how small we are in this universe. After a perfect night's sleep we arose bright and early for a sunrise hike to the ridge at the edge of the property; from there we could see for miles and miles noticing Lake Powell, Horseshoe Bend, and the canyons that are an extension of the Grand Canyon. We hiked back to our hut where we were greeted with a homemade Navajo breakfast of blue corn porridge, honey, watermelon, and herbal tea. Taking in the traditions of another culture was a humbling experience. ALL IN ALL; this place is the perfect getaway and sleep spot if you're in the area. Baya was a sweet host and we loved the entire experience.

Yelp
We loved our stay at Shash Dine. We stayed in the hogan / traditional Navajo style house made of logs and mud with a wood burning stove inside. It's so beautifully made and surprisingly spacious on the inside. It felt special to stay in such a unique structure that is very meaningful to the Navajo owner. We hiked up the ridge trail in the morning and we enjoyed it more than the Grand Canyon which was very crowded. Such amazing variety of views in just a short walk, and with no crowds of course. The morning camp fire was appreciated, as was the coffee and Navajo tea and breakfast. Highly recommended for a unique place to stay in an incredible setting. I also took a look inside the cube house and would like to stay there as well if l ever get the chance to return. Thanks for sharing this beautiful place with us.

Yelp
HOLY WOW!!! My friend and I planned a last minute adventure and got lucky with being able to stay in one of the bell tents. We arrived at 4pm and I did get a little confused with the finding the mile sign but that was our fault. Baya & paul sent us directions that were pretty direct but if your not good with directions I can see how it may be difficult. Paul & Baya are very pleasant people, very kind and want to make sure you have the best stay possible. The bell tent: amazing! Really spacious especially since it was just the two of us. The blankets & sleeping bags they provided were perfect. It was a bit cold out but we slept more than fine. Inside they provided a few things and it was really sweet because they left a bunny pez candy (Easter weekend) and candles. The dogs hey have didn't bother us one bit, big love bugs. The property: BEAUTIFUL! Baya let us know we could adventure wherever we wanted. There is a porta potty. It was clean and did not smell. They provided us with bathing water. Note: this is a bird bath not a full on shower & it's a bucket of water. For us that was fine because we only stayed one night. ALSO! The stars at night are absolutely breathtaking! If you can get a couple photos (camera familiar people) take advantage. In the morning Baya brought us coffee & a traditional breakfast. Blue corn porridge! It was very yummy with fruit and honey also. We will be returning this summer when it's a little warmer and a little less windy. THANK YOU AGAIN PAUL & BAYA & little Bridgette ( sorry for the spelling if wrong) for letting us be your neighbors for the night. It was a very beautiful experience.

Yelp
Boy oh boy! What a fantastic little slice of heaven!! I found out about this place on a whim and I'm so glad I did. My birthday was coming up and I thought this would be the perfect little weekend adventure. I put in my request for reservation on AirBnB and got a response very quickly! Everything from that point on was seamless and thorough. The directions to get there were flawless, follow them to a T and you will not get lost. Once we arrived we pulled in like it said to do and out came Baya to greet us. She asked us to follow her over to the tents, we did and when we arrived she was very detailed in explaining the grounds, land and how everything worked. The location is secluded, but keep in mind you are only 10-15 minutes from the town, which was extremely convenient. After our intro we were on our own and settled into camp. It was so wonderfully quiet there and the tent was exquisite! SO clean and organized. I loved everything about it. It was cozy and the beds were very comfortable. The blankets ridiculously soft. It got cold at night, but we were also given sleeping bags for each of us which was the perfect addition to stay nice and toasty. The tent is very spacious and could easily fit 4 people with room for belongings. Also, we ranged in height from 5'1" to 6'0" and had no complaints about the bed size/linens. My friend could stand up in the middle of the tent with ease. At night the wind was so strong and definitely blowing past the tent fiercely, but it held its own!! Great quality. The port-a-potty was clean, and the shower (I heard) was definitely a wild experience! We didn't use the fire pit, but another group staying there did and it smelled great! Haha. And the moon was shining SO bright the night we stayed there we didn't even have to use flashlights to get around. Incredible! We also decided that we wanted to watch the sun rise. In order to do this, we planned it all out, the time gets tricky up there because they're right on a time zone so we set three alarms to ensure we wouldn't miss it. Morning came and when the alarms went off we were so cozy and it was so chilly out we almost talked ourselves out of it. I hadn't even looked outside and made the comment that it's "probably overcast out", lol talk about a sleep brain! Once I opened the tent doors we clearly saw that it was not overcast and in fact was so beautiful out. We then quickly realized that the sun had already started coming up. We all jumped out of bed and basically... freaked out lol. We ran out, with flip flops on and just started running, then realized flip flops and a field full of cacti probably wasn't a good idea so we ran back to the tent to put on sneakers. Then ran back and forth another 10 times in a panic because we all had to pee, but for the love of god we just didn't have time!!! We screamed RUNNNN!!!! It's rising, it's rising!!! LOL. And off we went! Joining us on this hectic journey were 4 of Baya's dogs. OMG they were SO cute! Alas, we made it to the hill top and all of the chaos was definitely worth it. We saw the sun rise over the Grand Canyon and Utah in an array of glowing colors! AMAZING! Needless to say, after this trek we went back to the tent and fell back asleep. We were later greeted by Baya who brought us porridge, coffee and tea. She probably thought we were crazy for still being asleep, but she didn't know what journey we had just been on! Haha it was all just too much fun. I previously mentioned the time, and it is tricky because it kept switching on our phones and really proved confusing, especially if you have reservations (like we did for dinner) so I highly recommend you bring a regular watch along! Side note is that Horseshoe Bend is SO close to here, probably 5/10 minutes down the road so DEFinitely check it out while you're there. It's crazy cool. Any who, our trip was so memorable and I would stay here again in a heart beat! This is definitely glamping (in my opinion), as everything is set up for you and requires minimal effort so even if you're not into full on camping I highly suggest you try this alternative. You won't regret it. I promise!

Yelp
I am so overdue for writing this but, our experience was incredible! It has been about a year and we still talk about it. We loved the peace, comfort, hospitality, and serene feeling. We originally went up to see Antelope Canyon, but next time we will be back just for the beauty & experience and hopefully explore the navajo traditions more.

Yelp
Amazing! We had the greatest time at shash dine. Baya and Paul are great hosts. Upon out arrival, they greeted us and gave us a tour. We were even given a tour of their new Hogan, which was just great I think on our next stay we'll book one! We arrived early, before check-in time and instead of being turned away, we were checked in promptly. As first timers we had lots of questions, and both Baya and Paul were able to answer them and give us suggestions on places in the area that we could visit. Baya was kind enough to show us how to cook over the fire pit when she was us struggling. Our bell tent was awesome and equipped with everything we could need. It was a pretty cold night out but we were nice and warm all night. Lots of animals, sheep, chickens, horses and dogs. We even befriended their dog Elvis, he's huge but the kindest dog you'll ever meet. Our stay was simply amazing, we all wished we could have stayed longer, but we will definitely be back. Thanks Baya and Paul for everything!
