It is a great place to see rare animals like the Arabian oryx and ostriches. The safari tour is fun and lets you get close to the animals. The visitor centre has interesting displays about conservation and some animals in the outdoor enclosures. It’s a perfect place for nature lovers and families. Highly recommend visiting. Make sure to book the safari in advance, four people minimum.

A great wildlife reserve. Our tour guide, Hassan, was very knowledgeable and showed us various indigenous plants and insects while we toured the site looking for the Oryx. We saw a big group of them and he took us pretty close. It has 2 play areas for children, which was lovely and the Visitor Centre is nice.

This is a fine wildlife reserve in Azraq, and is one of two reserves in this area. One can tour this place, do barbecues, or use the kids area. There are seatings for picnics. If you wish to take a car tour, it is advisable to book a day in-advance. The tour itself is either 1 hour or 2 hours depending on what you book. One can observe the many animals and plants the reserve has. There is also a 15 minute break to observe “brewing tea the Bedouin way”, and then drink it. One can pay by cash or card. They have ample parking. Staff are friendly, and some are bilingual (Arabic and English). If the weather is tricky, tours might not be on offer, and so phone calling them in advance is always recommended and advised.

While I was excited to see the animals, the weather didn't cooperate, which limited my sightings. The staff was a bit different from what I expected, but they were helpful in guiding us. One aspect that stood out was the excellent cars they provided for exploring the reserve, which added to the overall experience. Despite the challenges, I'm hopeful that a return visit under better conditions will allow me to fully appreciate the reserve's beauty and wildlife.

That was amazing experience! Great staff they have enough knowledge about the conservation . Rather than u can’t see so many animals in safari tour, you still gonna spend great time in safari . Great for kids ,there are place for barbecue if ur interested and kids play area too . Happy to see there’s such place in Jordan thx RSCN Make sure to visit Azraq conservation when u come ,its close by 10 min.

We arrived here from Amman at about 2pm because our hotel room was not ready yet and we had some time to spent. It looked very empty, just two more cars were at the entrance, so we were not sure if it was even open. When we came to the entry, we were greeted immediately and told them that we want to do the 1 hour safari tour. We were able to use the toilets in the visitor center and although we were only two persons, the guide waited for us with a car outside and immediately started the tour. He told us a lot of interesting things and we saw some bucks. It was a very nice tour! Thank you

Shumari Wildlife Reserve is a wonderful place for nature and wildlife lovers located in eastern Jordan. Established in 1975 by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, it is Jordan’s first natural reserve. Covering about 22 square kilometers, the reserve features diverse landscapes, including desert valleys and basalt-covered plains. Shumari is home to many rare and endangered animals, such as the Arabian oryx, which was successfully reintroduced here after disappearing from the wild in Jordan. You can also find various species of gazelles, ostriches, wild donkeys, and over 190 plant species, making it a perfect spot for wildlife watching and photography. Visitors can enjoy “oryx safaris” to see animals in their natural habitat and learn about the unique biodiversity at the visitor center. The reserve is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, offering a peaceful and educational experience surrounded by beautiful desert scenery.

Impressive wild reserve! Well organized! Excellent guides! Special experience to know more about the oryx, it’s like the safari but in simple way!
