The Best Hotels in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada - AFAR

"Operated by the same family for generations since its 1860 founding and designated a National Historic Site, this property features a white clapboard main building with a red mansard roof and 14 antique-filled rooms and suites, plus 15 chalets with full kitchens and 10 traditional cottages. The on-site restaurant serves island fare—chowder, mussels, scallops, lobster—and the grounds are a five-minute walk to Brackley Beach and the extensive dune systems of the nearby national park." - Barbara Peck

For a last minute impromptu trip, this place was fantastic! Reasonable price very vintage charm! Reminded me of being home at either one of my grandparents places! Perfect out of the way location for my son and I considering he needs a quiet space as a light sleeper. We stayed on the hotel and it was lovely and the beds super comfortable, I melted in mine! Breakfast was included (would have cost around $22 and change, but for a simple coffee scrambled eggs sausage and toast the homemade strawberry rhubarb jam made me feel right at home! (There were other options but that was perfect for me!) Staff were very sweet and accommodating Sitting on the porch at night with the crickets chirping gave such an old time feel. My son and I highly recommend this place! This place was built in 1860, so if you are into old school charm & dated decor (still very clean) this place is excellent and exactly what I like! We came to PEI last year and were disappointed in our accommodations so this place made up for it this year!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shaw's. Our room was big, with a very nice living room attached. Though the rooms could use updating, we like it as is. The breakfast was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. We took their kayaks out onto the bay after dinner. The scenery from the land and from the bay is beautiful.

We stayed in cottage 15 much bigger then expected which was a huge bonus. Full kitchen and bath plus 2 bedrooms. Price was fantastic and the beach was a short walk. They have kayaks and canoes you can use for free. The staff was very nice, and the food was amazing. We will be back to this little slice of paradise next year. Highly recommend a must stay!

Shaw’s Hotel & Cottages is a true gem on Prince Edward Island, seamlessly blending rustic charm with rich history and warm hospitality. Nestled just steps from Brackley Beach, the location is unbeatable for those looking to unwind by the sea or explore PEI’s natural beauty. The cottages are cozy, clean, and well-equipped, offering both comfort and privacy, while the main inn exudes timeless character. What sets Shaw’s apart is its welcoming, family-run atmosphere—staff go above and beyond to make guests feel at home. Whether you're looking for relaxation or adventure, Shaw’s is the perfect base for a memorable island getaway.

Shaw's Hotel & Cottages is a great place for a vacation. We rented Cottage # 20, a spacious two bedroom cottage with a large living room, fireplace, and small porch with roof and BBQ. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom had plenty of towels. Everything was spotlessly clean. The staff is helpful and the owner is friendly. It is only a 10 minute drive from Covehead Lighthouse and beach and Covehead Wharf. The hotel doesn't open until June 1st, so we brought our own food. All appliances worked well. Thank you for a lovely stay!

We stayed one night in Cottage 15. It was surprisingly bigger than we thought. Two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other room with two I believe twin beds. It had a full kitchen, living room, bathroom with tub shower and lots of towels. Very comfortable living room with tv. The young staff that served us our delicious dinner and great breakfast were amazing. The family that owes and runs the Shaw Hotel & Cottages is family owned since 1860. I was impressed by their friendliness from my first call to book accommodations. We would definitely stay here again.

Historic inn, very pricey. As expected from a very old place, the rooms are small, woody, smelly, with uneven floors, tiny bathrooms and shoddy furniture, including the beds. Would recommend to people who love history, antiques, etc, but rather uncomfortable otherwise. Friendly, helpful staff. Wonderful property surroundings, good restaurant at main level with modest breakfast included, lots of see and do around. Access to beach and lagoon with lots of perks.
