Shawtys Cafe Restaurant & Bar

This is a nice little cafe style restaurant. It's more on the fancy side and the seating inside is very comfortable and spacious. The service here is perfect and cannot be faulted. There was only one vegetarian option on the menu but it was incredible. My companions ordered steaks and ribs and they really enjoyed it, but one person complained about too much mustard seed in the sauce. Definitely you must try the waffle fries as an entree, they're great ! The ambience is very warm and welcoming. The drinks are great too. Minus one star mainly for very few menu items. Very nice place, very very nice food. Definitely come and visit if you're in the area.

A short stopover in Twizel and found this restaurant. Delicious smoked salmon chowder - so yummy. Braised beef cheek pasta is also suprising good with soft tender beef cheek on thick pasta. . Food : 4/5 Service : 4/5 Price : $$ Place : 3/5

The place was quite full when we reached there so we waited quite a while for our food to arrive. It's good that the waitress had informed us beforehand so the wait is fine. Very kind and friendly waitresses there. The place is very cosy and has a fireplace in it. Food is really good and we are all happy. The place is very easy to find coz there r only a handful of restaurants around

The owner was really generous and allowed my brother Pango to make a travelling piano concert there and gave us a dinner and beer. A salmon pizza and Burkes extra pale ale were delicious. Nice atmosphere and the staff was super friendly. Definitely a lovely place to visit in Twizel. Thanks!

Really good coffee, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. For lunch my friends ordered SFC fried chicken and the big breakfast which both looked delicious. I had the steak sammy (without onions) which was tasty but it had a lot of mustard and the piece of steak was thick and small. So I will definitely be back for the other options and the cabinet food looked good too.

We dropped in mid afternoon for a coffee, hot chocolate and muffin. All good with exceptional service. Decided to return in the evening for dinner and we were very happy with that decision, the Pizza was delicious. The atmosphere was great with live piano. Thanks Shawtys, if we're back in town we'll be sure to return.

Stumbled into this town for a quick bite and settled for Shawtys. It didn’t stick out like the nearby Hydro Cafe but the food it offers is exceptionally good. The way the food is plated also made me very happy. The staff are all very friendly and pleasant. Will come back again if I have a chance.

*Within expectations for dinner and breakfast food. Friendly staffs. *However price is high compared with other places in NZ, eg. CHCH, Blenheim and Nelson. *Excellent dessert! Apple and cinnamon wonton with ice cream is a must try!

Food was delicious. No wifi. Coffee was delicious we got a mocha, a flat white, and full breakfast, and a vegitarian one, overall everything was delicious. We have been van lifting it for the last month and it's always a welcome surprise to find a delicious breakfast when we decide to treat ourselves!

Great restaurant. Friendly staff and nice environment. Lamb rack, slow cooked lamb shoulder in Massaman curry sauce, and beef 2 ways were all very delicious. Smoked salmon chowder was also good.

Whether you've been hiking all day or you're about to, this is your spot for grub. Part coffee shop, part gastropub, this place has a hearty amount of food at a reasonable price. This service is nice and accommodating and we listen to acoustic cover songs as we dined. I had the 'full serve' which consists of 2 big pieces of bread with poached eggs served with 3 sausage links, 3 pieces of bacon, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions and a grilled tomatoe. A breakfast Feast!

Nice cafe on the inside of the shopping center. Had a great lunch, enjoying the outdoor seating. We had the fish burger and the lamb burger, each of which were excellent. House made lemon-lime with bitters was nice.

We stopped by for lunch enroute to Mt Cook, after seeing reviews on Tripadvisor. We really liked the venison sandwich, quesadilla and smoked chicken pizza. The fish and chips were a little too fishy for my liking. The flat white was the best I've had thus far. The oaty caramel was excellent for dessert as it wasn't cloyingly sweet. 50MB wfi is available through a passcode you can obtain. Service was excellent - the hot chocolate overspilled a little and they offered to waive the cost which I thought wasn't necessary. Do drop by if you're in the area.

Certainly a gem in the cute town of Twizel! We stopped here after a long day of hiking in Mount Cook park, and dinner at Shawty's hit the spot! The beets risotto was perfectly done. The Margarita pizza was not quite what we expected, but good nonetheless. Service and ambience are the added bonuses!

Wow! The food was really good. Their menu would do great in any foodie city, even San Francisco. We had a salmon sampler - simply fabulous, pork belly and scallops, and bread&dips. Great patio, nice selection of beer&wine. Definitely recommend for dinner after spending a whole day of hiking in Mt Cook area.

Really a nice hidden gem on SH8, hidden in Twizel Came here on the way driving down from Tekapo to Queenstown. It's always tough trying to decide where to eat.... not may choices, but we are glad to stop here. The place- cosy, and clean. Has a nice fireplace. There is a big dinning table made of two old wooden doors. There are also plenty of 2 and 4 seaters. You can choose to sit outside also. its Twizel, ample parking around. The food- a selection of all day menu, kids menu, as well as pizzas. We got the lamb souvaiki and salmon pizza. The lamb was nicely done, not too tough. They use fresh lettuce topping, which leaves a refreshing taste. Needless to say, the salmon was awesome. You just can't get better salmon than the ones that drinks the Aoraki glacial water. So tender. I believe they used cold smoke salmon but they didn't over cook the salmon so it still taste like the ones you get form the salmon farm down the road. Coffee- The usual drinks selection. They use Allpress coffee. Was ok. The taste was a bit watery. Maybe it was because I ordered it in a takeaway cup. Has wifi, i believe its free. Definitely a place worth stopping when you are choosing between Ladybird in Omarama, Run 77 or Reflections in Tekapo.

Absolutely delicious food! Vegan options which are excellent. Had wonderful salmon dish, blue cod, beef cheeks and pork belly. Every meal was wonderful. Totally recommend for a stop in Twizel!! Will be back for sure

We arrived to Twizel about 7pm on a Sunday night and Shawty's and one other place were the only ones open. We had been told Shawty's would the best. The decor is very nice and cosy. The main chef had gone home that night so they only had pizza. While it served its purpose it wasn't that great. I wish we could have choices from the whole menu. They did have some great local beers and wines which was really nice.

My husband and I did not get individual entrees, but instead opted to share a variety of the sharing plates. Glad we chose to do so, because every single one was delicious!

Excellent food and service. The beef two ways was fantastic and so was the flat white. Great choice for dinner.

Amazing gem of a place in as town of 1,000! We stopped for lunch and had an excellent meal -- great options for vegetarians as well. Eat heartily at a reasonable price with service and food being excellent. Loved it!
