Such a cool bakery/deli. The options are unlimited! With that said, it’s very pricey…beware. We had a ham sandwich that was delicious. The bread is fresh and soft and all toppings/meat were fresh and of good quality. The bakery side had so much to choose from. We tried donuts, bread claws, and apple fritters. There was nothing exceptional about any of them. They were good, but not amazing. For the price, I was hoping for amazing. At any rate, it’s a nice place to check out and grab a bite to eat. Very unique with lots of choices.

We spotted this amazing bakery the other night after dinner, but it was already closed—so we made it a point to come back after our boating trip. So glad we did! This place is a full-scale bakery dream—pastries, artisan breads, cookies, and gorgeous treats beautifully displayed in the windows. I could spend all day just admiring the layout. Best part is they have a deli in the back! We opted to try the fresh sandwich counter tucked around the side. You can watch the staff slicing loaves of fresh bread and carving meats right in front of you. I ordered the roasted turkey on a buttery croissant, and yes—the turkey is carved straight from the bird, right there on the spot! Erik got the roast beef on fresh sourdough, and the bread was phenomenal. Each sandwich comes with a thick slice of dill pickle and a homemade chocolate chip cookie—such a great touch. The only suggestion we’d offer is to maybe improve the ordering process a bit. It was hard for the employees to hear our sandwich preferences with how fast they move. They added mustard to mine before I had the chance to say no, and I had to ask twice to have it sliced—but it still came whole. Both of us left a little frustrated by that part of the experience. That's why the 4 star! That said, the quality of the food and the thoughtful packaging (wrapped neatly on a plate inside a clear plastic bag—perfect for leftovers!) made it a stop we’d absolutely return to. Just maybe with a written order next time!

Came here at 10am on a Tuesday looking for a savory crepe or breakfast sandwich and they didn’t have any! Maybe most people come earlier? I settled on an apricot croissant which was delicious! I also picked out four chocolate truffles to take back to my hotel. The perfect late night treat. When I got there, there was no line but when I left, there was a line of maybe ten people. 1 apricot croissant and 4 truffles cost me $24.39 total, which seems kind of wild but everything is pricier in Mammoth.

Google
I can understand there is a line of people waiting to order but rushing the customer saying things like “What’s it gonna be” with a total attitude is totally uncalled for. Rude, dismissive young girl at the register and the guy packing the pastries just slamming them in a bag. This is how the pastries were packed. 100% don’t recommend.

We were in Mammoth for five days this time and we were at the bakery shop every single day from the day we found it. can’t believe we’ve never been there before and it’s just amazing! the coffee the tea… I love how they brew the tea specially, a lot of choices to choose from! the croissants are amazing the texture, the flavor and the sausage and eggs they put in between. And also, they have fresh sandwiches in the other side of the hall. We love the roasted turkey which is flavorful. We absolutely love that their desserts there. The cinnamon roll would be my favorite. I guess the service quality really depends on which waiter or waitress… after all we will be back again once we’re back in Mammoth.

Gotta get that schat’s bread when in the Eastern Sierra! Lots of goodies and they make the best sandwich!!!

Great ranges of bakery items. Staff were lovely, very friendly. Foods were real good. We tried the baklava, swiss cake, german chocolates. All were delicious. Highly recommended

Google
Breakfast croissants were barely warm. Danishes and baked goods were yummy. Line was long and went fairly slow. Tables needed attending, most had crumbs and such on them.

Yelp
I came in around 1pm during a weekday with two employees behind the register and it was still slow lol. They were mostly out of goodies so this was definitely interesting. Definitely prepare for "mountain time" because things do feel like they move like molasses. So plan your time accordingly. The chocolate cake slices were so so good. I can't wait to come back and order it again. Best item I tried. A second best was the cinnamon twist donut. Good flavor. Not doughy and light enough. Something I would not get again would be: thumb print cookies. The breading was too sweet and the jam on top had the consistency of jello. Definitely put too much gelatin in the jam or something. Would not recommend it. Overall like the others have mentioned, the location in Bishop is night and day compared to this location.

Yelp
This particular location is in Mammoth Lakes. I dropped by here twice but I wasn't able to get in the first time cuz I didn't know that they close at 6pm. So I went early on my next visit which was 3pm. To my surprise, they were already closing their doors and when I asked why, the lady wasn't able to give me a reason why. It seemed that they close the store when they feel like it. However, they let me in to grab one item quickly as promised. Because of this, I wasn't able to choose properly what I really wanted so I grabbed one item that's on top of the shelf. It wasn't something I really liked. I was glad though that I was able to snap a few pics.

Yelp
Arrived to this establishment around 12:30pm. Was told only two type of bread were available, croissant and a bread that looks like wheat both in limited quantity. How is it possible that you run out of bread? You're a freaking bakery. It's like the old joke, Staples office supply store not having any staples in stock for consumers to purchase. Should have gone to Bishop location, Mammoth Lakes location can't get their act together.

Yelp
It's getting pricier every time I come back, which seems annually. But still a nice experience, unique, and one of a kind. So they are so busy and always full. I enjoy their mDe to order classic sandwiches. This time I tried number 4. Roast beef. The taste, quality, and overall value was good. Of course once you step in you will always buy freshly baked famous breads and sweets. Nice hard working people as well plenty of workers in this little bakery and deli place.

Yelp
A TRULY SCHATTY CAKE! For 100$, Schat's truly screwed up this cake! To top it off, the service was extremely rude and the only reason we were able to pick it up was because we begged and had prepaid. This was because the lady working decided to spontaneously close early and refuse customers. Aside from the terrible service, the cake did not even taste good.

Yelp
Schat's has been around since forever and I've been coming here year after year. The bakery items are always fresh and tasty. Their sheepherder's bread is a must try! It's so fluffy and the crust is so good. They come in original and different flavors as well. They serve sandwiches, and I like to order it with the sheepherder's bread and roasted turkey. The turkey was warm and delicious. A whole sandwich costs almost $18 (doesn't include cheese or avocado), which is too expensive in my opinion. Yes, the sandwich was really good, but I don't know if it's worth the price. Each sandwich also comes with a pickle and cookie. The service for the sandwiches was pretty slow. Even though the line was short with only a few people, they seemed understaffed and only had one or two workers helping out with making the sandwiches. We were in line for almost 20 minutes, which is a pretty long time for a grab-and-go type of sandwich shop. The inside dining area has plenty of tables and seating, perfect for small or large groups. Overall, Schat's is a staple of Mammoth with great pastries and sandwiches, but unfortunately the downside is the increasing prices.

Yelp
One of the best things about going to Mammoth was going to Schat's and getting their bear claws. Sadly, those wonderful almond ones are gone. In their place is some glazed, jelly doughnut looking thing that bears no resemblance, except for the pudgy looking fingers, to the original. I'll stop in next time I'm there to see if they have any. If so, I'll buy some along with some coffee and other pastries otherwise, I'll just leave. Why oh why did they do this?

Yelp
I really did want to love this place. Walked in and enjoyed looking at all of their selections and ended up buying a ciabatta loaf and a chocolate chip cookie. I figure I'd start with some basics. The loaf was good, until you got to the center of it. Then it got really doughy. As for the cookie... oh, the cookie. How do you ruin a chocolate chip cookie? It was very crumbly. Maybe it was old? Even though I got there in the morning. And it had no taste... no flavor whatsoever. No chocolate, no sweet, just, flour? It was weird. It was so bad, it got thrown away. And I would never throw away a cookie. And as for the sandwiches next door... I couldn't justify paying $18 for a sandwich. I don't care how good it is... no sandwich is worth $18 unless there's seafood in it. And even then... it would be difficult. Didn't get a chance to try other bakeries in the area, but, I'd recommend those first.

Yelp
A big YUM! High quality baked goods in quantity! Walk slowly thru the racks so as not to miss anything. Gooey pull aparts. Breads, cookies, pastry... too many choices! A must stop in Bishop
google avatar

Yelp
A mandatory stop on the way to mammoth and on the way back. Their baked goods and sandwiches are so good! Always busy but moves fairly quickly for hot sandwiches. I usually get sandwiches, sourdough breads, some coffee cakes and donuts. It's literally a one stop shop! Can't ever go wrong!

Yelp
I recently experienced one of the best cannolis of my life at this bakery. Judging by the exterior of this building, I had thought that it was a Swedish bakery, which is why I stopped in. I was hoping to find something like my favorite marzipan cookies from Solvang. I was surprised to see mostly American chocolates, donuts, cookies, and cakes. A few of the cookies looked good to me, but I decided to order the very last cannoli left for the day. My mom is half Italian, so I've experienced plenty of "authentic" cannolis in my life. This particular cannoli was by no means authentic, but it was amazing, and beyond delicious. Rather than a traditional cannoli shell, the espresso-flavored cream was wrapped in a sticky Florentine style cookie. Every single ingredient tasted as fresh and perfect as could be. It was quite pricey at nearly $8, even though it was on the larger side. But it was so delicious that I couldn't resist eating the entire thing before leaving Mammoth. The inside and outside of the shop were super cozy, cute, and clean. The women working inside the shop were friendly. I would definitely stop by here again next time I'm in town.

Yelp
The croissants are good, there's a sausage with egg and cheese that I enjoy as well as the ham one. I also enjoyed the raspberry filled bear claw although I would love for it to have more raspberry. There usually is a line so as long as you know what you want it keeps moving smoothly yet there are so many options. There's inside seating and some patio seats out front and plenty of parking. The atmosphere is causal, order and go if you need to get somewhere or sit relax and enjoy.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice little place for a quick snack. Excellent baked goods, plenty of seating, good hot tea selection. Sandwiches also made fresh while you wait.

Yelp
All food at Schat's is delicious. Something for everyone. Service is wonderful and helpful. Ambiance is casual and clean, basically order and go type place. This is an absolute must every time we are in Mammoth.
google avatar

Yelp
We were recommended to stop here to pick up bread. Stopped about 7:30am A few loaves on the table but more being freshly baked. I waited 5 minutes for a fresh loaf of honey squaw break. Perfect reason to buy a cup of coffee and chocolate bar and sit in the cafe and enjoy! Check this family place out he definitely
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute bakery, with a decent amount of seating and so many baked options to pick from! The cookies that we got were good, I particularly enjoyed the turtle and I'm sure the truffles would be amazing. The one thing that really stood out was the customer service. The nice woman behind the counter was patient and helped us out quite a bit!
google avatar

Yelp
Always a great place to get sourdough bread and other bakery treats. My wife and I want to give Norma a huge shout out because she always has a smile on her face and is always so kind to the customers. Norma, you make Schats Bakery shine! You are one amazing person and we want you to know how grateful we are for your kindness.

Yelp
I love how they actually roast a big 15 lb turkey and use that as the sandwich meat! Also the toppings are so fresh. The expresso is also great, they have alternative milks, and so many sweets and breads to choose from. I will definitely be back. My sandwich chef was so nice! I didn't get her name but she made my experience great. Overall all the workers were really nice and this place is so cute!
google avatar

Lizzy C.

Yelp
The chocolate croissant was pretty good but could use more chocolate chips inside and could have been softer and fresher. The glazed cinnamon twist donut and the onion cheesy bread (both not pictured) were super good! The bakery was crazy busy but they did a pretty good job making it not a long wait. Their chocolates are not worth it, I'd rather go to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. We will come back eventually to get the fresh baked bread.

Yelp
Sandwich Heaven :) To be honest, I mainly go here for their sandwich and skipped the pastries lol because their breads are freshly baked and their ingredients are freshly sliced into perfection :) Not to mention their customer service is always on point and servers are seem to always happy. I love the place because of its simplicity and on the go if you're in a hurry. Anyway.. lets talk about their mouth watering sandwiches... Their sandwiched reminds me of shopping in a farmer's market because of its simple ingredients, but nonetheless flavorful to the core in each every bite. I ordered their half and half sandwich/ soup, which is my suggestion especially in a cold weather. I ordered their pastrami sandwich and tomato basil soup.. yummm! Their half sandwich feels like its already bigger than an ordinary sandwich, so adding a soup to my pallet is adviceable lol. My girlfriend ordered the same combo, which she chose a tuna sandwich and their peas soup. Damn their peas soup is legitly good and she loves every single scoop of it. Of course she loves the sandwich as well cause of its freshness. Overall, a must place to go whenever you're in Mammoth... you won't regret it!

Yelp
A must try. Loved my turkey sandwich with pea soup. Love the free cookie. So many delicious goodie's. Service was superb! But why do I have to pay $2.20 for cheese? We will definitely comeback before going home.
google avatar

Bob W.

Yelp
The best part of Mammoth Lakes is the fall colors of the trees. The second best part of Mammoth Lakes is the turkey sandwich made by Schat's. My daughter always packs a turkey sandwich in their cooler, and her husband drives the 5 hours to our home.
google avatar

Marcus F.

Yelp
The other Schat's bakery in the Eastern Sierras. Even though this location isn't as nice as the location in Bishop, there are plenty of amazing dessert options to make it worth your time to stop by. The bread rack is very limited at this location. You can ask at the counter what they have available that's not on the rack. They do have a deli in the back
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
We went for the bear claw - they were out of plain but the raspberry one was yummy - the morning bun was also yummy - but what caught my eye were the brötchen! It is so hard to find a proper roll here in the I.S. - if you are German you know what I mean - well this brötchen was perfect - not too chewy, not too soft, proper number of crumbs falling off as you take a bite - NOT in your car because one should not eat in one's car (IYKYK) - delicious with a slight malt flavor that comes from using the proper ingredients - I was in heaven 10/10
google avatar

Dinah T.

Yelp
Do not get a cappuccino. I get back to my room and open the lid ... LOOK! Even a latte should not be that color. Someone tell them that a cappuccino is espresso with foam. You do NOT pour in milk. You spoon some of the foam only. *sigh* The pastry and service were fine.
google avatar

Shemesh Y.

Yelp
Irresistible pastries! I had the round eclair (that sadly had regular shipped cream inside). It was good, though pricy!
google avatar

Bruce M.

Yelp
The best split pea soup+ham we have had in a long time. Real turkey cut from the bird - dark or light meat? Sandwiches literally made to order. Cole slaw like it used to be. And a cookie with every meal. Great place.
google avatar

Yelp
We visited here before our road trips back home because it was more convenient than going to the original Bishop bakery, which we normally do. This location has its own style, and is owned by a different family member than the one in Bishop. With that said, the setup is slightly different. The menu does not have pre-selected sandwich choices, but is more of a build-your-own style. Coming in with the expectation that this bakery is just a smaller version of the Bishop location, we were a tad disappointed not finding familiar favorites. However, less crowds and lines were a plus! The sandwich was very good, nonetheless, but it came at a high price point for what it was. If you fall into adding all the available toppings, your sandwich could end up becoming more stuffed than you like, as they are generous with selections. We also ordered a chocolate cake from here during our visit, and that was really tasty and highly recommended. There is some seating outside, but just be careful because the umbrellas weren't very stable during our visit - one of the umbrellas nearly missed knocking out half our party by a few inches! Besides that scare, our tastebuds were pretty satisfied for our long drives back!
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
We went first to the bakery and got the haystack and a cookie- both were very good! Then onto the sandwiches! We got the roasted turkey on shepherder bread- so good! I got tomato, sprouts, lettuce and mayo on it. It comes with a cookie. We also got a side of vegetable soup. My only thing is the price- the sandwich is $18 and the soup was $8. While the food was good, it was overpriced but considering we are in a mountain town... it is acceptable and I would come back again!
google avatar

Rostam Z.

Yelp
Schat's is a Mammoth staple. Fantastic bakery with pretty much everything you'd want plus some. Donuts/pastries here are a must and are always baked to perfection. The sandwich/deli counter towards the back doesn't compare to the one in Bishop. The sandwiches coming out of their Bishop location are next level.
google avatar

Candice H.

Yelp
My fav place for bakery food, donuts and soups! I have to come here every time in mammoth! Some cookies are hit or miss. The donuts are amazing. The soups at the deli are amazing! That's basically what I get here and can repeat that order daily. I also get a side of pastrami sometimes. Just a La carte. They have great ciabatta bread with olive oil and vinegar dips. Go to the deli and look for day old breads for half off, and it's still very good.
google avatar

Drew N.

Yelp
Walk into Schat's Bakery first thing in the morning and you'll find fresh croissant breakfast sandwiches, fresh squeezed orange juice and cases filled with the best looking pastries around. The employees here are always nice and friendly as they serve up your order. Inside you'll find loaves of bread, jars of local honey and coffee beans for purchase. Theres also a fairly large dining area that's clean with many tables to enjoy your purchase from Schat's Bakery. Schat's is a must stop if you're visiting Mammoth Lakes California.
google avatar

Ted C.

Yelp
I would have past by Schat's without a second glance if it wasn't for another visitor's recommendation while out at one of the lakes. We were headed back to the Village anyway and since Schat's was on the way I figured it wouldn't be that much of an imposition. What I didn't realize was that it would seem that our visit would be an imposition for them. It was a little after 3 so the sandwich bar was closed and all that was available was the pastry counter. They definitely use their available floor space to sell items that seem to cater to all the tourists that show up: beef jerky, pickles. The only thing that doesn't seem to cater to visitors is the late shift there. Unfriendly, unapproachable, and generally just unpleasant. The Apple Fritter and tea cookies were just ok and despite the inexpensive price tag there's no reason to stop in if you're just going to feel unwanted.
google avatar

J P.

Yelp
On our way out of town we stopped at Schat's for coffee and breakfast treats. The store is nicely decorated and has a selection of breads, truffles, sweet treats, desserts, and donuts. Our family ordered four donuts that were a hit with each person. The coffee was very hot and good. The line moved quickly and the staff was friendly. There's a room adjacent to the bakery where you can sit and enjoy your meal. I'd highly recommend!
google avatar

Henry G.

Yelp
Never called back for an order I want to place. Horrible service, you should go to Bishop as they're more friendlier and attentive.
google avatar

Mary Lou S.

Yelp
Oh so good! When in mammoth Lakes, Schat's Bakery is the place to stop for a delicious pastry. Or donut. Or home baked bread. Or hand crafted chocolates or candies. Or coffee. Or lunch. There was a line when we were there, but there were multiple employees helping everyone and the line went fast. Super cute shop with the restaurant in a room behind the bakery area. They were out of bear claws, so the hubby opted for a maple bar, which he said was ok. I had a sugar twist donut that was fresh, huge and delicious. We brought home a cinnamon roll donut, which we ate over the next couple days, as it was really big, too. We got a couple chocolate turtles and they were good, as well.
google avatar

Natalya S.

Yelp
Good place to grab lunch or come by for a quick breakfast in the morning. Lunch is in a different section of the bakery, there is a good selection of soups and sandwiches, everything made to order, fresh. Its pricey i must say, for 1 adult and 2 kids my bill was $45 for lunch, same pricing as if you would eat on the mountain. In bakery department you will find all your typical staples and lots of different varieties of bread. Customer service is subpar, it felt like they were doing me a favor taking my order, the cashier was clueless when i asked about different products for sale. Overall its a good alternative for lunch and breakfast if you want to just grab and go.
google avatar

Khristopher T.

Yelp
This place is a crowd favorite... Amazing detail to every aspect and every bread. The varieties are endless... Everything is super delicious and freshly made. It is in institution. We come here every single time we pass through Bishop.! Thank YOU!!
google avatar

Meena N.

Yelp
This is NOT the original location!!! It's not even a sister location or associated with the actual original in Bishop. The other one has two k's in the word bakery and this one is a copy. Also the ORIGINAL place is called Erick Schat's Bakkery. Keep that in mind. Is it as good as Erick Schat's (the original)? Absolutely not. There is only ONE location of the original Schat's.
google avatar

Bonnie A.

Yelp
The turkey sandwiches are OMG AMAZING! Let's just say it went two days in a row. I had to get one before I left. Definitely try them out you won't regret it. They have whole roasted turkeys! The turkey vegetable soup they have is scrumptious! Friendly service and attentive service. Just go!!
google avatar

Kev M.

Yelp
This is my favorite meal in mammoth every time i visit. How do you argue with fresh oven baked bread made with daily roasted turkey. You can then add any combo of ingredients to you fresh sandwich. They are not cheap but definitely worth it. Btw all of the soups are great too!
google avatar

Martin K.

Yelp
Very nice people. Enjoyed the Apple fritter, bear claw and Apple fritter. Had a good quality iced Americano
google avatar

Joy K.

Yelp
We arrived in Mammoth lakes and were hungry. My husband recommended sharing a sandwich, I remembered Schatts bakery in Mammoth mid 80s best locals breakfast and I could choose their famous family recipe Volkeran bread. We shared a turkey sandwich on sourdough bread. The turkey was freshly roasted whole and when they made the sandwich there was plenty of white or dark meat. We had fresh lettuce and cucumbers onions with some tomato's. Their bakery items and chocolates are also a hit. We had a cream puff filled with custard . Thank you
google avatar

Kathleen C.

Yelp
Crowded and delicious. So many choices it's hard to decide. My husband ate an Apple fritter, Florentine and oatmeal cooking. AMAZING! Yes, I recommend the place and YES we will return!!
google avatar

Susie O.

Yelp
Wow these sandwiches are so good! Fresh bread makes such a difference. The turkey was off an actual turkey like you would cook for Thanksgiving. One of us had the split pea soup, which was also amazing. Quite pricey, but worth it! I was surprised that they charged an extra two dollars plus for a slice of cheese, but it's not detracting from my rating.

Jaimie S.

Yelp
I was severely mistreated here by the older woman who works there- she's either the owner or manager. I came in with my service animal and she wouldn't serve me or let me buy baked goods. I told her my dog was a service animal and she still would not serve me and was extremely rude, telling the other employee not to serve me. I was so upset that I got my service animal documents to show her and she continued to be mean and say that he didn't have a vest on and it's required. I informed her it's not required to have a vest on but she asked if he was and I told her yes and was happy to show her documents. She yelled and was nasty and we ended up leaving. To have someone treat me like this when I have a dog with me to help with a medical issue is beyond me. Never will return.

Jeff C.

Yelp
I almost Schat my pants when I had to pay $9 for two very mediocre pastries. Tourist trap. Do not recommend. I'll never go here again.
google avatar

Lori V.

Yelp
Stopping at Schat's Bakery on our way to Mammoth has become a tasty tradition that we look forward to. It's a sugar lover's paradise! This Dutch bakery has been here for decades and they offer a variety of sweets from donuts, to cookies, fruit strudels, bread puddings, just about anything you can dream of. Their apple pie, bear claws and bran muffins are among my favorites but honestly, they're the only items I've tried. They were just so delicious the first time I came here, that I order them again and again. This is a perfect stop to stretch your legs and enjoy a coffee or latte with a pastry or sandwich. They have a nice bistro style seating area with shaded tables in the front too!!

Yelp
Located in a plaza. With plentiful of free parking. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Lots of baked goods. Reminds me of Solvang. Very cool looking exterior. Ordered a bunch of donuts and croissants. All very tasty, fresh, and delicious. Highly recommend
