The Essential Guide to Planning a Trip to Abu Dhabi

"A masterpiece of Islamic architecture featuring 82 domes, reflective pools and marble-clad courtyards, with grand chandeliers set with millions of Swarovski crystals and the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet; it is open to visitors of all faiths but requires adherence to a modest dress code and ticketing guidance listed on its website." - Travel + Leisure Editors

14 Best Things to Do in Abu Dhabi | Condé Nast Traveler

"Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the world's largest, is an Abu Dhabi must-see. Completed in 2007, it can fit 40,000 visitors and worshippers into a space the size of four football fields. But it's not only the size that's impressive. The architecture is a shining culmination of cross-cultural influences: The architects were Emirati, Italian, and British, bringing together design elements from Turkey, Morocco, Pakistan, Egypt, and beyond. The details here are grand, from the reflective pools to the 82 white marble domes, 1,096 exterior columns, and 24-carat gold Swarovski crystal chandeliers, all creating a transcendental experience." - Jenna Scatena

I always love visiting Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, but there is something especially magical about going during Maghrib (sunset) in the summer. It is much quieter around that time with hardly any tourists, making the experience even more peaceful and spiritual. For worshippers, there is a convenient club car that takes you close to the entrance so you do not have to walk far. The mosque is also very accommodating for People of Determination. Wheelchairs are available on site, along with chairs for anyone who needs to sit while praying. Golden hour and blue hour are absolutely stunning here, perfect lighting for photos, and listening to the adhan echo through the mosque at sunset is truly unforgettable. Before leaving, you can stop by Ladurée not too far from the parking lot. They sell macarons with an image of the mosque on them, which is a nice little treat to take home. Whether you are visiting to pray or simply admire its beauty, this is an absolute must see when in Abu Dhabi.

THE LARGEST MOSQUE IN THE WORLD SHEIKH ZAYED GRAND MOSQUE. This is one of the biggest attractions of Abu Dhabi, it's a must visit place when u visit Dubai UAE. This MOSQUE is open to non-muslims, here people should wear decent clothes and ladies should cover their head. It's constructed from White Marble and the carvings around it is just mind-blowing to see it. The architecture of the MOSQUE is very beautiful, it's really commendable how neat and clean they have maintained this huge MOSQUE hat's off to their effort in maintaining it. The white marble with gold carvings around the pillar and the entire structure, beautiful arches placed artistically is just mesmerizing to see. The place is very peaceful you can feel it when you visit here. In some parts of the MOSQUE there is blue water pools along side of the huge number of beautifully carved pillars placed at equal distance. Words truly fall short to describe the beauty of this place, you need to come and feel it. It's DIVINE experience visiting this MOSQUE. Here there is prayer hall where World's Largest Hand Weaven Carpet Is placed was awestruck to see that. Hat's off to the Abu Dhabi and UAE for maintaining such a huge structure built with white marble, it looks and feels like as good as new but it's built decades ago. When we visit this MOSQUE got to see the UAE fighter jets flying around which was fantastic to see here. I say it's must visit place for people coming to Dubai.

Getting to the mosque from the mall is quite a walk, but it’s all covered and indoors. Security is tight and well-organized - all bags are scanned, and females are required to be modestly covered (including hair). The mosque itself is stunning - beautiful, immaculately clean, and massive. Keep an eye out for the free guided tours that happen a few times a day. We were lucky to join one with Khalid, who was both funny and informative. Thanks to the tour, we even got access into areas usually closed off to visitors, including the main prayer room. The rooms are breathtakingly decorated, kept cool, and maintained to perfection. The feeling of awe when first stepping inside is indescribable - it’s something you simply have to experience for yourself.

As an architecture student, I found Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque truly beautiful - both in its scale and in the harmony of its design. The details are stunning and it’s an inspiring place to experience in person. The only downside is that September is not the best month for sightseeing - the heat makes it very challenging to fully enjoy the visit. I’d recommend coming in a "cooler" season to appreciate it more comfortably.

As it's named " The Grand", it is so. The best time to visit the mosque is in the evening. You can see the beauty in the natural light and then the decorative night lights. The view of the mosque in the water pool looks so amazing. Water fountains with lights are too good. The walls, columns, ceiling etc. are made so artistically. The Chandeliers are extraordinary. You need to register yourself along with the number of visitors. Registration can be done via Mobile or machine booths. It's available towards the right side once you enter stairs. Also, a food court and many stores are available for food and shopping. There is a battery car available for pick and drop with some payment. You can see a lot of information on the walls with nice informative pictures. You must visit this place if you are visiting Abudhabi.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is breathtaking in every sense. Its white marble domes, elegant minarets, and intricate floral designs make it one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The reflection pools and the way the mosque lights up at night create an almost magical atmosphere. Inside, the chandeliers and the world’s largest hand‑knotted carpet are awe‑inspiring. Despite its grandeur, the mosque also feels peaceful, welcoming visitors of all faiths who want to appreciate its beauty. - Entry is free, but dress modestly (robes are provided if needed). - Guided tours are available and worth joining for the background stories. - Best times to visit: early morning for quiet moments or at sunset for stunning colors. Overall: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is not only an architectural masterpiece but also a place of serenity. An absolute must‑see in Abu Dhabi.

Such an amazing sight! Absolutely loved visiting the mosque. It’s my third time and it never feels enough because it is breathtakingly beautiful. Please make sure to do your research online about appropriate attire for both men and women and it should be non transparent. It is free to visit and you can get your pass to enter online but I recommend going there and getting it because you must use that pass within the selected time frame. Winter is definitely the best time to visit.

A Grand and Unforgettable Experience. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s incredibly beautiful, grand, and massive — a true architectural masterpiece. The white marble, detailed carvings, elegant domes, and sparkling chandeliers create a peaceful yet majestic atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression. Whether you visit during the day or at night, the mosque is absolutely stunning. It’s open to all and very well organized, with respectful guidance. A must-see in Abu Dhabi — truly one of the most magnificent mosques in the world.
