14 Best Things to Do in Abu Dhabi | Condé Nast Traveler

"Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the world's largest, is an Abu Dhabi must-see. Completed in 2007, it can fit 40,000 visitors and worshippers into a space the size of four football fields. But it's not only the size that's impressive. The architecture is a shining culmination of cross-cultural influences: The architects were Emirati, Italian, and British, bringing together design elements from Turkey, Morocco, Pakistan, Egypt, and beyond. The details here are grand, from the reflective pools to the 82 white marble domes, 1,096 exterior columns, and 24-carat gold Swarovski crystal chandeliers, all creating a transcendental experience." - Jenna Scatena

The Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is a breathtakingly beautiful and serene place. The mosque is immaculately clean and well-maintained, making it a must-visit attraction. However, be prepared for a bit of a walk - it's a large complex! As you enter, you'll be given a tip on how to navigate the mosque. Head to the right dead end to collect your free passes/tickets, then make your way to the left. This is a 2-3 hour activity, so plan accordingly. Dress modestly - cover your shoulders and knees, and avoid graphic tees and shorts. The architecture and design are stunning, and the atmosphere is peaceful. A truly unforgettable experience! Tips: Wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated. Photography is allowed in designated areas. Highly recommended!

Step into a world of awe at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where pristine white marble, colossal columns, and shimmering chandeliers evoke pure tranquility. Begin at the underground mall, which offers both shopping and a quiet moment before your visit. For a unique approach, follow the pedestrian tunnel under the main road to the mosque entrance (a surprisingly modern intro to such a classical monument!). Once inside, marvel at the intricate floral mosaics and gold-tipped domes; even on a sunny day, the cool interiors and soft natural light are serene. Did you know the main prayer hall hosts one of the world’s largest hand-knotted carpets? Also, its chandelier—crafted in Germany—features Swarovski crystals; both are exquisite yet little known outside guidebooks! Must-do: Wander through the reflective pools at the mosque’s perimeter—catch the sunlight glimmering across the arches for an insta-worthy shot with nature and architecture in perfect harmony. Indoors, the “forest” of columns laced with amethyst and jasper makes for an iconic photo, while the main hall offers endless patterns for architectural close-ups. Tips: Dress respectfully—borrowed abayas and kanduras are available on site. Visit early to avoid crowds, especially before the afternoon prayer on Fridays when access may be limited. Watch for sudden weather: The transition between sunny and rainy can be striking against the mosque’s bright silhouette.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is the UAE's biggest mosque and is open to all. Inaugurated in 2007, this is an architectural wonder. 82 white domes, the exquisite artwork on the courtyard, the stunning carpet, the marvelous chandeliers, the regal white look - everything fills you with awe. It was brutally hot even in October when I visited, so be prepared for it if you go in the morning. Sunglasses and water bottles are a must. Do read the dress code before you go or opt for a guided tour who will take care of the required attire.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is an absolutely stunning place in every respect—architecturally, culturally, and spiritually. Its immense domes, white marble, intricately decorated columns, and gigantic carpets create a unique sense of majesty and harmony. Every detail, from the hand-crafted mosaics to the dazzling chandeliers, reveals extraordinary craftsmanship. The mosque is open to visitors and allows for a beautiful, inspiring insight into Emirati culture and tradition. The evening illumination lends the structure a magical character, making a visit an unforgettable experience. This is a place that will remain in your memory forever and is a must-see during your stay in Abu Dhabi. 🕌✨🌙

Visiting the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi was easily one of the highlights of my trip. Even before you step inside, the scale and detail of the architecture are incredible—every angle looks like it was designed to be photographed. The white marble, the reflections in the pools, and the intricate carvings all make the place feel almost unreal. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and welcoming. The chandeliers and the massive hand-woven carpet are even more impressive in person than in pictures. I also appreciated how organized everything was; despite the number of visitors, it never felt chaotic. Overall, the mosque is not just beautiful—it’s genuinely peaceful. If you’re in Abu Dhabi, it’s absolutely worth taking the time to experience.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the most beautiful mosque I’ve ever visited. Its scale alone is awe-inspiring, and the stunning white architecture creates a sense of calm the moment you step inside. Everything feels vibrant yet peaceful at the same time. A must-visit landmark that truly leaves you humbled.

Must visit place in Abu Dhabi. Suggested to visit in the night as it becomes beautiful and colorful. The domes on the top of the mosque makes it aesthetically better. Loved the ambience, the structure, the architecture and lightings.Amber night lights makes the mosque looks amazing. Inside the mosque beautiful chandliers ,carpets are the main attractions. Be prepared to walk to the mosque from entrance as you have to walk for almost 25 - 30 minutes from the entrance to the mosque. Some guidelines as per my visit - 1. Wear comfortable shoes 2. Book in advance to avoid the rush and chaos 3. Follow the dress code as per mentioned rules especially women need to cover head. 4. Carry spare jacket/ scarf if in case they didn't allowed to enter due to incorrect dress code
