We were really looking forward to our visit to Shellona, and while the setting and party vibes were beautiful — great music, dancing, and energy — the overall experience left us very disappointed. The food was genuinely good, especially the king crab pasta, but shortly after eating it, my sister became violently ill. It was very clear the crab was the cause. For a restaurant of this caliber, a food safety issue like that is unacceptable.
What made things worse was the service. The staff were incredibly pushy from the start, pressuring us to change our order to include more expensive items, particularly the crab. They insisted we order 1/2 a kilo minimum of crab for just three people, which felt excessive and unnecessary, especially when we told her we weren’t THAT hungry. It’s very obvious that the staff expect you to go for the €900 wagyu or the priciest options on the menu, even when that’s not what you want. And when you don’t follow their suggestions, their attitude changes; it felt like we were no longer guests they actually wanted to serve because they weren’t going to get a €200 tip. Sadly, this behavior seems consistent with other reviews as well.
To top it off, when the bill came, our waitress directly asked if we wanted to give a 10% tip and then entered a higher amount into the card machine without even waiting for a response. It was uncomfortable, unprofessional, and not at all the kind of service you expect at a high-end venue like Shellona. I’m not sure if this is common in these types of establishments in st tropez, but we definitely found it strange that the waitress directly asked for a tip. If I feel that the service is excellent, I’ll decide whether to give a tip and how much. However, I found this request quite rude.
Shellona has potential — the food, music, and environment are promising — but the aggressive upselling, poor service attitude, and serious food hygiene issues made this a very disappointing experience.
