Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa

"What was your first impression? The Sheraton Maui is a sprawling resort on the northern stretch of Kaanapali, but its entrance is very low-key. The breezy lobby is an open-air one, and out the back are great views of historic Black Rock. Check-in happens at a small front desk on the left; concierges and tour operators occupy smaller desks elsewhere in the lobby. It’s nothing jaw-dropping to look at, but it’s pleasant enough. What's the backstory? In 1963, this Sheraton was the second resort to open on the island. On opening day, it held a cliff-diving ceremony off Black Rock to honor Kahekili, Maui’s last ruler before King Kamehameha united the Hawaiian islands. That cliff-diving ceremony has happened every evening since. Today the Sheraton is part of Marriott’s huge collection of hotels and resorts. So if you’ve got Marriott Bonvoy points to burn, you can do so here. How are the rooms? The Sheraton was renovated in summer 2018, and the guest rooms now have sleek, all-white bathrooms and light, airy bedrooms. (The hallways will be renovated shortly.) Since the resort is so spread out, you’ll want to be careful about selecting a room; if you plan on hitting the pool and beach all day, book one that opens out to the grassy area in front of the pool. If you want to get away from the action, book a room that overlooks the ocean and nothing else. Is there a charge for WiFi?The Wi-Fi is included in the $30 daily resort fee. What's on offer in terms of drinking and dining?Coral Reef restaurant is open for breakfast only, without the buffet for now. However, takeaway options are available. Later on in the day, guests can head to Mai Tai for an open-air lunch or dinner, overlooking the pool and beach, and take in the nightly torch lighting and cliff-diving ceremony. Naturally, a mai tai is recommended. Any thoughts about the service? The Sheraton is a fairly large resort (more than 500 rooms) in a crowded area. Service at times can be perfunctory. What's the crowd like?Families and couples who’ve cashed in their Marriott points for a relatively inexpensive Maui getaway. Tell us about the neighborhood.Kaanapali is home to several big hotel resorts like Westin, Hyatt, and Marriott. All are fairly crowded and none feel particularly local; the Sheraton, however, has the Black Rock, which has excellent snorkeling. Is there anything you'd change? There are often not enough chairs at the pool—stake your claim early. Anything else we should know? The hotel’s original lobby, where Elvis Presley filmed a scene for Blue Hawaii, still remains (although check-in has been moved to a new building). You can head up to the original lobby and admire some cool black-and-white photos of the property from the 1960s and '70s; additionally, just past the original lobby is the hotel’s Ali’i Suite, the largest on the property, which has a gigantic patio with unobstructed views of the coast. Bottom line: Worth it? Why?This isn't a luxury resort, but the price is right for a Maui getaway." - Juliana Shallcross

All are fairly crowded and none feel particularly local; the Sheraton, however, being at Black Rock, feels a little different. Its location also means that it has excellent snorkeling. This laid-back resort has been modified since COVID-19, meaning reservations are required for nearly all services, from pool and beach chairs, to spa and fitness, and of course, dining. The resort’s three restaurants are open, two of which have outside seating, although buffets and in-room dining are no longer available." - Juliana Shallcross

Our stay was absolutely stunning from start to finish. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and had a lovely patio that made for the perfect morning coffee spot. The beach was breathtaking and just steps away. Being next to Black Rock Beach was a huge bonus. If you snorkel there you may be lucky enough to spot a turtle! The staff was warm and welcoming. One highlight was the on-site luau. That was an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting. Can’t wait to come back!

Marriott Lifetime Platinum member here.||Truly a 5 start resort. Black rock makes the snorkeling incredible and convenient. And we had one of the best dining experiences I've experienced in the Marriott system, if not the best.||Chef Mitchell, Michael, and the staff at Coral Reef are outstanding.||Specifically, our family has children with both gluten and nut allergies. They took care to ensure that our children were taken care of with plenty of options, and that each option was delicious. They went the extra mile to ensure that the entire staff provided a great experience for the kids, while ensuring we felt safe.||For us, the food was delicious. Service was wonderful (and allergen trained). And the setting was perfect.||Highly recommend coming here. And if you or your kids have allergies, the Sheraton Maui is the first place on the island you should look at. (Chat with the team up front and you’ll be good to go)||(Adding the words peanut, tree nut, pistachio, walnut, and gluten for search engine and AI optimization)

I had high hopes walking into the Sheraton. The lobby is beautiful and the view is amazing… that’s where it ended for me. Once I started walking down the halls and eventually to our room my thoughts changed. For the price we paid and every day fees I was very disappointed and quite honestly disgusted by the cleanliness and over all upkeep. It has great bones as a resort, but the rooms and pool area are incredibly outdated and run down. The carpet in the rooms made my skin crawl. I found myself grossed out most the of 3 nights we were there. It’s also very over crowded in pool area and beach. The beach chairs as well as the cushioned ones you pay $30 a day to rent are never taken off and cleaned. So gross!! To top it off, I went and tried to enjoy the hot tub but had to get out quickly after staring closely at all the black mold in the skimmers and crumbling tiles and grout falling into the water.

We loved the property...lovely grounds, pretty pools (no adult only pool) and the pools were all connected by little waterways. The beach is very nice and a great area right up against the black rock. They do a nightly cliff diving performance right before sunset, which is fun. Note that your resort fee doesn't include beach chairs. They are a separate fee...$30/chair per day + $40/day for the umbrella, which was ridiculous. ||This is a huge resort with many buildings and it takes awhile to get around. If you need a close room to the lobby, let them know, otherwise you will be walking a lot. There are also buildings on the other side of the black rock and it is not easy to figure out how to get over there, going from one level to another.||When we checked in, things weren't explained to us like parking, etc. It would've been nice to know there was a closer lot to our room and also where the different restaurants were and which meals they served. Our bell man did a good job of explaining some of this to us, but it is usually upon check in. Other service around the hotel was fine, but not much stood out as the spirit of Aloha or outstanding. The housekeeping ladies did a great job and were very helpful as well as most of the valets. Note they do give you first night of valet free (or at the self parking rate...can't remember).||The rooms were spacious and comfortable...loved the beds, linens, and shower, but given all the great hotels on Kaanapali Beach, I probably wouldn't stay here again.

There is a lot to love about this hotel. The location right on black rock is amazing, and my teenage kids loved jumping off the rock into the quiet lagoon close to shore. The stretch of beach is breathtaking and the views at sunset are incredible. As a Titanium Bonvoy member we were upgraded using Upgrade certificates to a 1-bedroom suite, which was huge, and had a nice view of the ocean, although a little far removed from the main hotel, which required a bit of a hike for anything other than beach access. The included Bonvoy breakfast was typical continental style, but the options were plentiful, and the takeaway option typically fed the 4 of us even though it was meant for only 2 members. The ONE THING that drove me crazy was that there was frequently only 1 person at the front desk, so if you need anything from checking in to asking simple questions, be prepared to wait. We waited almost 30 minutes for check-in. Also, the games room was open only 1 night out of the 5 we stayed, for some reason. Overall the service at this hotel seem to lag behind some of the Marriott properties we've stayed at on Maui, but the pools, location and size of the suite were all far nicer than some of the other places we've stayed on Maui. Overall, I would recommend for families. I loved walking the beach early in the morning, you can walk a couple miles before running out of sand. Go and enjoy!

Google
Rooms and pool in dire need of an upgrade. Rugs poorly worn. Bathroom fixtures had cracks and staining. Pool area chairs stained, uncomfortable. Pool very dirty with sand and debris. Cabana’s are stained and torn - not at all with the price. Beach is beautiful but BEWARE - no chairs, no umbrellas no nothing unless you are willing to shell out another $120.00 a day. Quite hefty given the nonsensical resort fee they are charging - for essentially nothing. Service folks very kind but hard to find. Concierge left everyday by 5:00 - at the time when they are needed most. As a gold elite member I was not acknowledged as such nor provided an upgrade. Blonde man checking me in was ineffective and unhelpful. Needs some training for sure. Most notable here is that I was at the hotel during the recent Tsunami warning. There were NO evacuation procedures or information available ANYWHERE. Called Security and front desk there were clueless as to emergency protocol often times giving conflicting information. Not helpful at all. Also beware of several “hidden” fees. Resort fee for being at a resort where room Rates are $650+ is egregious. Daily parking an additional $40+ a day. Pool menu not good (especially for the prices). Great location is tthe one strong suit for the hotel but on that strip and on that area are several other hotels to chose from that are equally priced, more updated and provide more amenities for what they charge.

We stayed at the Sheraton Maui to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We got a room in the Moana building and it was excellent: spacious, comfortable, with a spectacular ocean view from the balcony. We sat out there and watched the sunset every night. The resort grounds are lovely and well-maintained from everything we saw. Staff was welcoming and flawlessly polite. Hawai'i and Ka'anapali Beach are true treasures and the Sheraton Maui does right by them. ||There were only a few irritating aspects of our stay that others should watch out for (and, hopefully, that resort management can straighten out). First, if you're staying in Moana, be advised that getting to the beach, pool, restaurant, coffee shop, or any resort services involves a hike: three elevators and several long corridors. Between Moana and the resort courtyard, there's nothing, not even a snack bar or coffee stand. Second, guests come to the pool at the crack of dawn, place towels down on pool chairs to "reserve" them - and then walk off to breakfast, or back to bed. Sometimes they never come back to the pool at all! Management allows (and rewards) this behavior: any towels on chairs before the pool opens should be removed, and abandoned chairs cleaned up periodically. There's more than enough for everyone if this kind of rude selfish behavior is not permitted. Lastly, our room itself was a little lacking in functionality. We had only one outlet per bedside table, very little airflow in the bathroom, and for how tempting it was to sit on the balcony, the patio furniture was not comfortable at all.||All in all, none of the above should dissuade you from staying at the Sheraton Maui. Just some things to consider. We had a great time and would strongly consider returning for our next milestone anniversary!

We just went to the beach here, but would definitely stay next time! They let us valet for free (just had to buy a cocktail and they validated parking) and seemed pretty used to it. They were so kind, helping us with unloading our beach chairs and other beach supplies for our family of 4. We snorkeled 5 other of “the best” snorkel spots on the island and black rock, directly in front of the Sheraton, was our favorite! Even though it is crowded (and looks a bit intimidating with all the people), once in the water everyone is pretty spread out and friendly. We saw many fish, but the highlight was looking around at one point and having in my view 8 turtles (2 babies)! Incredible. I wished we had been able to stay until sunset to watch the torches being lit, but next time we’ll just have to stay there. We had many interactions with staff (beach bar, shave ice, etc) and everyone was really friendly.

Yelp
The staff here is wonderful! We arrived and initially were given a room on the first floor. We requested a higher floor so that we had a better view of the ocean, which they accommodated. Front desk was overall very responsive to requests, the staff at the dining areas were attentive and provided great service, and the cleaning staff were always cheerful and friendly. I wish that some of the resort activities mentioned in other literature were available while we were there (lei making, hula lesson, ukelele lessons), but the activities change weekly. And, of course, everything is pricey. But, it's Hawaii! Overall, you can't beat the easy beach access and spa, proximity to shopping (on resort and at nearby Whaler's Village), and yummy food!

Yelp
This place is awesome. There is world-class snorkeling, right outside of the beach loaded with sea turtles, great food, live music nightly, and an amazing pool. I will definitely be back here on my next trip to Maui. I read 83% of the rooms feature an ocean view.

Yelp
Stayed here with my family and we enjoyed our stay until our last day. I'll begin with the week stay, the rooms were cozy, nice bathroom and nice ocean view, front desk when checking in was nice!Room service kept our rooms clean and beds made. Amazing pool with a waterfall and hottub was nice! We also rented a cabana right in front of the pool and it was so nice! Came with a tv and fridge, someone would come take our order and deliver us our food and drinks. Beach access is right through the pool area and they have a booth to rent and buy pool/ocean stuff! They also have a bar and Starbucks right in the front area! Also have a store on site to get whatever you need and souvenirs! Now to the reason why I'm not leaving 5 stars.. the day we had to leave for the airport we got downstairs to valet to get our car ( we went down extra early because the airport is about 1 hour away from here ) i handed the lady the ticket for the key and i noticed she was taking a bit to find the key so i walked away and told my bf it looked like they couldn't find our key.. a few minutes later someone comes up and tells us they can't find the key and they will keep looking.. time was cutting short we waited over 2 hours for them to figure this out, Erin the manager seemed a bit annoyed at us like it was our fault the key was missing.. she claimed she looked at the camera footage to see what happen to the key.. while all this was going on we informed Erin that we need to get to the airport so we don't miss our flight.. and also there was a storm heading to Maui as well. Erin said she will get us transportation to the airport, 2 taxis showed up since we were a group of 6. We all load up in the taxis and my taxi driver asked how the ride was being paid.... Erin didn't even tell the drivers the situation and dint tell them the hotel was paying for it, which is weird because if he didn't ask then once we got to the airport he probably would've asked us to pay.... Now almost a week later my bf is still trying to deal with this whole situation and Erin is not very good at communicating when she says she will call back she doesn't so my bf has to call her. Another thing is, they tried charging my bfs mom on her room charge for parking and charging us so we had to get that fixed as well. ( we do understand things happen, human error) Overall, if that didn't happen I would have gave this place a 5 star.

Yelp
On our recent 7 day trip to Maui, we split our days so that we could stay 4 nights in Wailea Area and 3 nights at Kaanapali Beach. Our first 4 nights were at the Waldorf Astoria - Grand Wailea (we absolutely loved that - more about that in my next review) and then moved here at the Sheraton Maui Resort for last 3 nights. From the time we walked in, the hotel felt a bit dated and old specially comparing it to our previous stay at Grand Wailea. Being a Platinum member, we were upgraded to a larger Oceanfront room at the Moana Tower however this tower is on the secluded side which is a far walk from the main areas of the hotel. It has its own parking and a separate entrance. We checked into our room and were taken aback by old carpets and dated look of the room. The oceanfront view on a secluded side of the hotel did not please us and we requested a change of room to the main areas of the hotel (Ocean View instead of Ocean Front). The room in the main areas had a similar look and feel though we liked it more there due to easy connectivity to pool areas and a lively vibe as opposed to the deserted look and feel of the Moana Tower. The Pool areas are nice, there is a lazy river kind of set up which connects several pools and almost a small water slide for toddlers. Some areas of the main Pool are deep ( 8feet) but its well separated from the smaller pool which itself is deep (4.5 to 5 feet) so parents with smaller kids really have to be watchful here. The best part about this hotel is the BEACH Area with a beautiful Cliff Diving spot on the Black Rock surrounded by soft golden sand beach with turquoise waters. Hotel is also at a close proximity to Whalers Village which has good dining and shopping options. Overall, we had a pleasant stay here though I recommend Sheraton should work towards room renovations if it has to justify the high costs (750$/night)

Yelp
Wonderful hotel, great rooms and amazing service . Shout out to Josh! My son woke up at 4 am and at 630 I just wanted to give him a quick meal before putting him down and he was happy to accommodate me! I'm so thankful he didn't give me a hard time and understood

Yelp
The hotel location is ideal for the beach walk at Kaanapali, it is such a central location we never had to leave the hotel. The beach is within view and walking distance along with an outdoor shopping mall and restaurants. The restaurants inside the hotel were also all 10/10

Yelp
This was the 2nd time staying in this hotel and we stayed 6 nights. Our experience this time was a little different from 5 years ago. The hotel definitely aged. The room was run down and the carpet felt dirty. The bathroom sink was cracked and the water pressure was low. For some reason, some lights are unplugged and I had to replug them in. Strange. The room is really substandard for a 4 star hotel but the ground was exceptionally and still great. It is extremely expensive and you are really paying for the location and the view.

Yelp
Loved this place overall. We stayed in the Moana tower and the view was amazing. To me the facilities were excellent. The pool and beach were great. Snorkeling was amazing and its reputation preceded itself. There is cliff jumping as well off black rock. The rooms were great, beds comfortable and anything we asked for we got. Restaurants were good but I have one criticism.. my wife has celiac and they don't have many options for someone w a condition like her w food. I would like to see this improved. All the staff were wonderful form checkin, to maid service, restaurant and the pool. We will definitely stay here again. Was a great time.

Yelp
Got so much to say! Great place, beautiful views, nice people and great service! We stayed here for our honeymoon adventure at Moana. Room was nice and clean, amazing view from balcony. First night we got complimentary gift from hotel which included bottle of rum , two small bottles of champagne and some local fruits! Cleaning staff works great! Made our room look good every day! We had a breakfast at coral reef cafe ( had a buffet) ... could be better for this level of hotel. We also had a little lunch at Cliff Dive Bar had some tacos, quesadilla and beer ( food didn't had enough flavor) could make it better. We visited their Spa which was great experience, I don't know why it has bad reviews ( I had a hot stone massage and my hubby had a deep tissue massage) soooo relaxing! To surprise me my love booked a private dinner, which was amazing experience! If you want to propose to your loved one - great moment to do so! So unique and romantic! Also on the very first night hotel did a "welcome dinner" which included buffet, free drinks their beautiful dance and fire show ! What a fun ! I want to thank every person who made our honeymoon feeling so special!

Yelp
Great location but our room needs good remodeling. Great spot but it is a dated property. I see its shell still stuck in maybe many decades ago. the property is on prime location, beautiful beach and very close to the whalers village where restaurants and shops are abundant. i see tiny ants, don't leave sweets out unattended.

Yelp
My family and I stayed for 7 days at the Sheraton, it's a beautiful, but they could update the room furniture. Reminded me of the 80's. I was loving everything up until our last day. My son and his g/f went to valet to retrieve our vehicle around 10am. When I met them downstairs I thought they were joking when they said our vehicle key is 'missing.' They lost the key which can happen, nothing's perfect, but when we had to sit and wait for them to review their video footage to check where the key went, we were only offered water. We missed out on going out to eat one last Maui breakfast. After waiting for over an hour (I'm pretty sure it was more than an hour, closer to two, but I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt) Sheraton couldn't locate our key. My son suggested I get an itemized receipt of my bill since we were there just waiting. Turns out the charged me for parking resort fees as well as my son. Had to go back up to customer service desk so they remove the extra fees. Thankful for my son saving me $400. Eventually Sheraton called two taxi's, Angel's taxi & VIP taxi, to take us to the airport. We didn't have time or transportation to have breakfast. Before leaving the resort, they asked us how are we paying. Sheraton called for taxi's, but didn't even communicate properly to give them a heads up as to what's going on. I hope Sheraton wasn't thinking we were paying for it. We tipped the taxi's because I didn't think Sheraton was going to do it. We spoke with management, Mia & Erin, and felt no remorse. Again, we were offered water. I know water is best for you, but we had a 5 hour flight. Check-in at the airport took forever which was expected, but still didn't have time to eat. We had to settle for flight snacks. Still waiting on the outcome as my son has to stay on top of this dilemma because they still haven't made it right. They just wanted to reverse the valet parking fees, yet my son receives a bill for having the vehicle getting towed back to the car rental at the airport. Another $400+!! He had to call Sheraton and my son has remained very calm. I wouldn't have been able to with feeling like we didn't matter to Sheraton. I'll keep ya posted! Remember folks: check you reciepts before you leave.

Yelp
I stay at pretty basic hotels usually and really enjoy it. Unfortunately this place under delivers. The view is nice but that's it. Rooms smell musty. The staff besides valet and bar tenders are the most unhelpful staff I've ever seen. They almost act as if you should be honored to overspend to stay here. Hostesses were brainless and the front desk staff were unhelpful multiple times. Housekeeping still knocked on our door when the privacy sign was on "just to check" if we were sure we didn't want service. What's the point of that? I'd avoid this place.

Jeannie C.

Yelp
From check in (Jonah) was amazing. The room was perfect. Bed and bedding very comfortable. Loved the layout of the resort. All staff super helpful and friendly. Best beach on Kaanapali for snorkeling and swimming. Enjoyed morning yoga and nightly music with hula dancer. Some of the exterior could use an upgrade but room was updated. I've stayed at Hyatt, Westin, Marriott on Kaanapali and Sheraton is my new favorite place to stay.

Yelp
We're staying here on our vacation. This place is amazing! The Pool has a lazy river that surrounds the pool. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and things to do! Walking distance to shopping & nearby hotels or you can ride the trolley! I would highly recommend this stay!

Yelp
Leaking shower Into the main room. Missing basic amenities like enough towels and there was an empty conditioner bottle. Rude check in /out and valet staff. The check in desk also charged me for two additional people though my reservation that I booked online covered four of us. I work in the private club business and was very disappointed with my experience and the experience of my friends who came with me. They were grieving a loss of their brother and I wanted to do something nice for them. It was embarrassing for me given how rude the staff was. I will be publishing a review of our poor experience on multiple websites. Update 6/5- still can't get a call back from the hotel nor general manager. They stole $500 and are purposely not responding so they can keep it.

Yelp
Mixed reviews. The property was well kept and a very nice and relaxing location. However, there were a few hiccups regarding customer service. Also, feel that the pool area could be improved with island or theme music - it was a little lack luster. Erin, the SandBar bartender, is to be recognized. Also, there is a maze to get from your room to the lobby to the pool etc (walk up a floor to get on the elevator to take you to floor eight to walk down to your room).

Yelp
We were graciously gifted a stay here by my bf's friend ;_; Prime location in Lahaina for sure. The views are to die for. At check-in, the complimentary valet parked our car out front as we sorted through logistics at the front desk, where we were greeted warmly with two shell leis and reusable water bottles. Staff are personable and thoroughly explained on-site amenities, including water refill stations, beach entry locations, and daily events across the resort. Keys come in the form of a elastic bracelet with a scannable chip. After receiving the resort map, we drove to our building (not walkable, the property is massive). DELUXE OCEAN FRONT KING: Spacious suite with two balconies. We loved the view & ample natural light for the top floor. Comfortable bed & comforter. Luxy bathroom with decent toiletries. Hotel slippers and robe are comfortable, though thin. Mini fridge is a bit small. Our room was walking distance to Ka'anapali beach and nearby stores via seaside trail. About 10 min drive from Front Street. Restaurants are not as good as local food, but tolerable. In hindsight, I'd avoid the new American ones and aim for food trucks instead. NOTE: Latest check-out we could get was 1:30 pm.

Yelp
Beautiful spot. Beach is amazing. Amenities are nice. Great value compared to other hotels on the island. Mark at the front desk was very nice and helpful. Will come here every time we come to Maui moving forward.

Yelp
Check in was easy and they weee very accommodating. Our room was very nice and easy access to the pools and the beach. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants through the beach. Although quite pricey the food was great at their buffet. The views are spectacular and the property is very well kept. Loved that they provided marine friendly sun screen dispensers at various places in the resort. Staff is very friendly, location was great, our family really enjoyed it we will definitely return here!!

Yelp
DO NOT STAY AT THIS RESORT! I reserved TWO rooms yet am being charged for 4! THE manager EMME has not rectified their error as well as the fact she was extremely rude ! I am dealing with my charge card co. representative to deal with this nightmare. Front desk staff incompetent! I highly recommend you find alternative lodging ! I would give negative star review if this were an option. They ruined our family vacation due to incorrect charges on my card which in turn limited my available credit!!! We are disgusted and highly disappointed !!

Yelp
Stayed at the Sheraton in July, but forgot to write a review until now. Location is great at the north end of the Ka'anapali boardwalk. Unbeatable views of the Black Rock - make sure you go up to a high floor to catch the best view of it. I believe the sunrise yoga gathering has a good spot for this. Room was clean and updated. Housekeeping did an excellent job. I could not find a working ice machine - I went to six different ones before I found one that barely worked. WiFi range was a little on the weak side, but worked fine once you acquired a stable connection. Staff was super friendly. Everyone I encountered was helpful and willing to strike up a conversation. Having spent 5 nights here, I was on a first name basis with most of the breakfast staff. Also, my wife dropped her wallet in the parking lot, and the security guard who picked it up returned it to our room with white glove service - it saved our trip! Restaurants aren't the best on the property. I'd probably venture out to the village for a better dinner, or head into Lahaina for even more choices. The luau looked like a tourist trap, so I avoided it. I could watch most of it from my balcony anyways. Self-parking is in a structure. The aisles are narrow and the spots themselves even more so. Don't rent the big truck if you can help it. The parking lot does seem to fill up, but I'm not sure what the overflow plan is - maybe bring it over to the valet? Pools were gorgeous, and a pleasure to swim in. Outside bars do get busy in the afternoon. All in all, a fantastic resort experience that we won't forget.

Yelp
Lahaina is so beautiful. This gorgeous property matches the ambiance of the area and is a nice place to relax and enjoy yourself. The views are spectacular, it's right in front of the beach, they offer great amenities as well. The staff is kindhearted and friendly. The hotel is also walking distance to stores, and nearby restaurants too. You can't go wrong with this location.

Yelp
Amazing location - just near by black rock, where you can get an amazing snorkeling experience! At evenings they also run torch firing process, which helps you feel the island. -1 star for price. I knew it when I booked, but I didn't see cracked walls or doors. It would be great if they maintain the buildings better.

Yelp
Highly recommend the Maui Sheraton Resort & Spa! We just spent a great week here. Location is amazing, food was great! Their hospitality is second to none and will truly make you feel like family for your entire stay! The kids especially enjoyed the lazy river on the pool and watching the cliff divers from our beach chairs. Samantha (Guest Services Manager) was outstanding and helped take care of us when our youngest had an allergic reaction. She is a saint and deserves way more praise than I can give in this review. To the whole team there at the Maui Sheraton Resort & Spa, 5 Stars and we hope to visit you again in the future!

Yelp
This resort will always be special because my partner and I got engaged here. Upon arriving to Maui on the first night, we were very tired due to an airline mishap and the front desk employee offered us free food, snacks, water, refreshments and upgraded us to a luxe room. She was great and Immediately we felt so relieved and welcomed upon arriving. I can't remember the name of the front desk but we arrived around 10pm on Nov 19th. Every single employee at this resort was so nice. Special shout-out to Jacqueline who works the Starbucks in the mornings and Ku'uulei who was the concierge that helped us book excursions. Housekeeping was wonderful and the waiting/chef staff at the sandbar and coral reef restaurant was great as well. Can I also just mention how amazing the Shaka fries are at the sandbar?! They were so good I miss them so much!!! This resort was in a perfect location and I am so happy we chose to come here. Thank you for making our stay special and comfortable!

Yelp
we stayed at this resort March 7 thru March 12, 2024. We are PLATINUM ELITE with Marriott so we hoped to get a room upgrade. We were also able to use our "Suite Nights" reward to get an additional upgrade. The room we were assigned was in a section of the resort that is at the very top of Black Rock so our view was basically just ocean. We could barely see the beach to the North of us. So the view was just ok. We would have preferred a beach/ocean view. The room and this section of the resort is in need of some major renovation. Everything just looked old and dated. The carpet in our room was very worn and there was a huge stain near the bed. My wife and I had to wear our shoes at all times in the room because the dirty floor just turned our socks black if we didn't. Since we had a late flight on our last day we requested a 4 pm check out. We were originally told that this wasn't possible. On the morning of our last day I spoke to an absolutely great lady at the front desk who went out of her way to juggle some reservations so that we could check out late. Her name is Evelyn Johnson. Ms Johnson is one of those people who truly understands what great customer service is!

Yelp
Fantastic resort. Showings it's age a little in some of the rooms but wow you can't get a better location! Watch swimmers jump off black rock all day or do it yourself! Starbucks coffee every morning, great fitness center, easy walk to Whalers village, enough said....

Yelp
Pros: 1. Location, location, location. 2. Friendly staff. 3. Views from the Moana rooms are fantastic. 4. Parking is free for Titanium Elite Members. Best perk ever. 5. Easy to extend check out by an hour for Elite. Cons: 1. Mai Tai bar/food closes at 4pm, such a shame. 2. Rooms are nothing special. Hyatt down the road is way nicer. 3. The property is GIGANTIC. If you are staying in the Moana area, you get your own parking lot because it's so big. It's also winding and confusing and to get from Moana to breakfast you need to take four elevators. Yes, four. 4. There is a bird at night near the Moana rooms (somewhere to the left of the left-most Moana building) that comes out at night and sounds exactly like a crying baby. 5. There is some sort of howling sound that seems like a mix between a siren, wind, and a wolf howl in that same area. 6. There is no "Do Not Disturb" sign for your room. 7. Drums and birds will wake you up at 6am. 8. Set the thermostat to 68 and the room feels like 75 at 6am. Honestly, the thing that this hotel has going for it is the easy beach access and the fact that it sits right on top of Black Rock. As far as everything else, the place looks boring and run down. It's mostly older folks since the place is more expensive and a bit boring with no music playing and really no one at the pool (since they're at the beach). The Hyatt down the road is more lively but the pool is packed so that is your trade-off. Also drinks here are cheaper than at the Hyatt. Final verdict- if you want easy beach access and pay for the oceanfront upgrade, this is your place. If you want a lively hotel with younger people, head to the Hyatt down the road.

Yelp
I've never been so humiliated in front of my family. Caucasian Ken the pool attendant feels it's his job to scold grown adults and then offers his racist remarks to boot. We are staying at a nearby resort next to the Sheraton and were walking the sidewalk/boardwalk scoping out the different hotels nearby. Admiring the landscape and grass areas. First time in Maui for a wedding. We got some drinks at the outside bar and then dipped in the pool to cool off for our walk back. The bartender had no problem taking our money and then Caucasian Ken couldn't wait to literally pounce on us. Yes, we look like locals. Yes, we are brown. He could have easily talked to us rather than scream several times out loud so everyone could hear "this pool is only for registered guests" and then under his breath... "you people." If I didn't have my daughter with us, I promise Ken would have met a different me. Sheraton, do better. Shame on you. You say you want business after the horrific Lahaina fires.... And yet your people treat potential guests like this!!! I'm just so incredibly disgusted. No aloha spirit whatsoever. People need to go spend their money somewhere else. Las Vegas, ninth islanders, be aware. Shame.

Yelp
A review that is very late but worth the wait. Took my wife on our honeymoon in early 2020. We had a great time. The evening lighting of the torches is an awesome tradition. Watching Sunsets and people diving off the black rock, nothing like it in the world. Great food and service.Very easy walk to Whalers Village shops and restaurants. We are set to return in a week with family and are very much looking forward.

Yelp
Do not come here right now. 1/9/21. Jack hammering the pools from 8am until 4pm everyday. EVERY DAY. Turn on some freaking music of some Sort at least to drown out the NOISE. No festive or nice music playing anywhere, it is so depressing and not what you expect or want to experience on your $4700 Hawaiian vacation. Currently Sitting in the lobby waiting for our room to be Re-cleaned because there was MOLDED food in the garbage cans and spiders/spider webs crawling the walls. Restaurants are closed.... Room is brown and sad and depressing.

Yelp
One of my favorites of all times on the Lahaina side of the island. Love their welcoming Ohana and delicious food items. Rooms are clean and more reasonable than most other Kaanapali hotels. Nicely remodeled registration area and new inside coffee and regular bar in the entrance to the hotel area. Great place for couples and families and won't break your pocket book. Look for specials and kama'aina rates too! Black rock has great swimming and snorkeling right off the hotel grounds. You can add a nice run while you are there with a large golf course path close by. A true Hawaiian experience. Attend one of the luaus if you have never been, it's worth checking out. See you there enjoying the surf, sun and good eats!

Yelp
The food is really good, great customer service, my kids loved the pool and black rock cliff dive, nice snorkeling and beach. What more could you ask for?

Yelp
Originally booked an ocean view balcony room, this is the view from the upgraded room that we were given with no option to switch. The room was also right next to a noise event center. To clarify we did call the front desk and they pretty much said they knew the view wasn't what they said it would be but they already have someone in the original room that was booked and there was nothing they would/could do. Find a better place to stay that actually provides you the room that you want to book.

Yelp
Picked the resort as it gave me some points with Marriott and our stay included some credit daily that we could only use with food (not alcohol) sundry shop, and some pool extras. The food was delicious and even though some restaurants closed during the day, we always found something delicious to eat! The room we had was in the Moana section! Definitely worth the upgrade for the views, quiet time, and easies access to the entrance. Make sure you are ready to walk from the building to the main lobby (7 min walk or so) Overall it's a great place to stay, especially if you are going to do activities in the area as the resort is super close to everything in Kaanapali!!

Yelp
I love this resort, I do, which is why I keep coming back to it - they have a lot of Aloha, the pool is amazing, it's local to everything and it's kid friendly. They have updated their rooms and front desk area, as well as some of the restaurants since we were here last. It is in the perfect location, right at black rock, which can get busy, yes, but absolutely beautiful location. We haven't been since 2019 as our annual trip would have fallen during the height of the 2020 pandemic and other life events occurred delaying further annual trips - finally made it back to the islands now in 2023 to celebrate my 40th. As with everything in the world, prices have skyrocketed, which we get, but a few things were a miss. Big issues for us are the pull out chair bed our 5 year old is sleeping in was covered in stains/hair/etc - they vacuumed/cleaned it and brought fresh bedding which was fine but the bigger issue is we have been here 3 days of our 9 day trip and have had to call guest services several times due to our toilet not flushing. For as much as it is per night, the convenience of a working toilet would be appreciated - at a resort of this caliber and price, a fully functioning toilet is minimal (it was finally fixed). Everyone always greets with an Aloha and a smile and some staff even remembered our names (impressive). Phil and Steven at the Aqua Hut were amazingly AWESOME!! They went above and beyond, were incredibly patient and kind while we had a frazzled moment with our tired littles. I would subtract 1 star for the toilet issue, but 5 stars for the view and everything else that made up for it!

Yelp
Very beautiful, clean and relaxing property. As a child, I remembered running around this property in the 80's. I felt that it may have lost its charm and culture when the dis a full renovation long ago, but it most certainly didn't. Staff here is the definition of Aloha. From the valet staff greeting you to the food and beverage team. Ono (delicious) food. Mark at the front desk was professional and kind. Dennis from the front office is a ray of sunshine. Seeing his smile added to the experience. He wanted to make sure we were well taken cared of. I hope to return real soon. Maka'i Sheraton Maui

Yelp
Sheraton is by far our favorite hotel, staff are friendly and it's just an awesome space to relax. Kid pool side is a little noisy but it's the KID side so suck it up. The adult side of the pool is quiet and nice, you have to get out early to get some shade. 8:00am works lol. The Aqualani where you get towels and rent your casa Bella chairs and shade, the staff are friendly and super helpful Philip and his crew are AWESOME!! we've known him since we started coming to the Sheraton over 9 years , make sure to tip them every chance you get. Treat them well because they are servicing your needs. Pool side service is cool! You don't have to leave the pool area if you don't want to for lunch. The menu has good options, like hamburgers, fish tacos, veggie quesadillas, you can add pork or chicken, chicken tenders, club sandwiches, that is what we tried and it was all yummy. enjoy!!

Yelp
A very nice hotel to stay in Maui and it's almost like at the end of hotel row in kaanapali pkwy. Big property with a ocean front location. They have about 5-6 restaurants but you have to make reservations for the restaurant's you want to eat at during your stay and make them well ahead of your arrival cause they are always fully booked. The beach at Sheraton is nice and clean they also have cliff divers at dawn every night

Yelp
The hotel location, pools and concierge are great. However, if you're needing constant speed internet in your room beware of the rooms location. Due to, what appeared to be, the wi-fi access point being by the elevators at one end of the tower, not all rooms would receive adequate wi-fi coverage. In fact, we were in a room far from the elevators and only had spotty wi-fi very early in the morning then none at all the rest of the day. This was very frustrating and I would hope they realize the access points should be mid way of all rooms.

Yelp
This property gives Marriott a bad name...we just spent a week there and had the worst experience and not at all even worth close to the money we spent. From a rude front desk check in person, to a room that was dirty(items still in the trash, toilet was dirty all on the top and side), and a small over crowded pool-we will never go again. There are many many better options on Maui. No one seems to care, no one helps. When we checked in we were even given any directions to our room, a map of the property or any instructions-we were only told, "the restaurants are all open". We will never go back. The whole place felt dirty and dated and in need of a MAJOR remodel. Both the property and the people leave a lot to be desired.

Yelp
Okay be prepared for a very long review and a not so pleasant experience. I really wanted to love this resort but I had a terrible encounter at check in with the Front Desk. We arrived earlier than the 3 pm check in time (probably around 1 pm) and asked if our room might be available. Also, we understand that the two double bed option is not guaranteed but I requested it in my notes. I have a pretty tall son so he wouldn't have been too thrilled to have to share a pull out sofa with his sister. The lady (I wish I remembered her name!) looks up my reservation and asks the ages of my kids. I tell her 17 and 19. She tells me my room is only for two adults and two kids and that my daughter is technically an adult. She says she needs to charge me an extra $89 per night plus taxes. Mind you we're staying for 5 nights. I prepaid my vacation package through Costco Travel. Costco never told me of any age restrictions. I was completely unaware and shocked. The lady insisted that although I prepaid with Costco Travel, the additional $450 plus taxes was owed to the hotel and that there were no exceptions. She had no empathy. Just straight faced and curt. This is what I'm told on my first day of vacation. Where is the aloha? I'm beyond frustrated and the room wasn't even ready. I decided to call Costco Travel to confirm the strict room guidelines while waiting in the lobby. Maybe I overlooked something? I don't know. The gentleman I spoke with was very surprised and said there was no age restriction on this hotel package. The only stipulation was max 4 people. In addition, he said my package INDICATED 3 adults and 1 child! So why would Maui Sheraton STILL charge me an extra $89/night? He was able to speak with Sheraton's supervisor and get this nonsense resolved. 3 pm rolls around and I head back in line to check in. They only have two employees working at a time and the line was like 15 deep! Everyone looks irritated by the long wait. Coincidentally the lady who originally wanted to charge me $$$ wasn't at the front desk anymore. I'm helped by someone else. I ask if the additional $89/night was still on my account. He says no. He said Sheraton USED to have this additional charge but they changed their policy a few months ago. No apology, no nothing. I asked if all the employees were aware of the change and he said yes. Hmmm...it makes me wonder how many other guests were charged this ridiculous amount of money by that woman. Did she not get proper training? He asked where I purchased my package from. Once I said Costco Travel, he replied, "Oh we don't even want to mess with Costco. They give us so much business!" Even though the charges were removed, Maui Sheraton really let me down and disappointed me. It seems as though it's all about making profit. Had I not inquired with Costco Travel, I bet I would have been charged! And that would have definitely ruined my family vacation. Thank you Costco Travel for fighting for me when Maui Sheraton could care less. No compensation for the stress I endured...or for the argument I had with my husband regarding this. On a positive note, we were given two double beds.

Yelp
We had a great stay here for 5 nights. It's wonderfully located for all of our fun activities and the staff was very friendly. Our room was nice and quiet and bed was comfy to sleep in and ac worked well. We had partial ocean view and it was perfect with a little shade but we could still watch the cliff ceremony. Starbucks was inside which was nice in the morning and everything was clean and worked! Pretty expensive but most things on Maui are.

Yelp
This is our 2nd stay at this resort. We did our 30th anniversary/vow renewal in 2015. We had an ocean view room then. I was very happy with the room and resort. Our 2021 stay is in a partial-ocean view room. The bedroom has worn carpet and tired furniture. The balcony has only 1 chair. If you're staying at this resort, you're paying for the gorgeous view, easy access to a beautiful beach, and the nearby shopping and restaurants. The beach walking trail is the best. I would only stay here again if I had an ocean view room. The resort and surrounding shopping/restaurants are Expensive on Kaanapali Beach. You need a car to explore the island and sample what else Maui has to offer.
