We were traveling for work to Phoenix and decided to stay at the Sheraton, given its reasonably central location, good price, and Marriott flag. Despite paying extra for a high floor, we were given a room on the 17th floor which is the highest floor of the non-high floor section of the hotel. When we inquired about this, they suggested we check back first thing in the morning. No problem - we didn't unpack too much stuff, checked back in the next morning, and were moved to the 28th floor. No offer to help with luggage, though. Thankfully, we travel light.
The new room is more or less identical to the old one in terms of layout, however it was much closer to the elevator bank so there was a lot more foot traffic, people talking loudly in the hallway, kids running up and down, etc. If you're a light sleeper and/or prefer something a bit more quiet, definitely request a room as far as possible from the elevators.
Did I mention we were traveling for work? We need a fast, reliable internet connection in order to be able to do work and I'm surprised that in this day and age, some hotels still have not figured out how to offer reliable internet access with a seamless process for joining the network. For the first few hours, we would connect to the access point however it would never pop up the window to authorize the device to connect. Once connected, if you put your computer to sleep and then awaken it some time later, it would connect to the wifi but there'd be no internet access. Sometimes "forgetting" the network and reconnecting would solve it. Even after the pop up shows up, after we enter the correct information, it would just spin there indefinitely and eventually disconnect. Just for testing, putting in the wrong information failed right away. In the past several months, we've stayed at dozens of other Marriott properties, big and small, and not a single one had any issues connecting or maintaining a connection to the wifi, except this Sheraton property. If there's one thing that by itself would improve the experience to a 4*, it's getting the wifi fixed!
In terms of location, I'm not sure it gets much better than this. Decent coffee and many great restaurants are all within walking distance. The convention center is pretty much across the street from the hotel.
Lastly, the hotel bar is actually pretty nice and the cocktails are reasonably priced by hotel standards (~$15).
