Yelp
A Hidden Gem in Waikiki
After completing major renovations, especially in the Ainahau Tower, the hotel feels completely transformed--like staying at a new property! Here's why I believe this is one of the best hotels for the price:
1. Exceptional Welcome and Early Check-In
From the moment we arrived, the hospitality stood out. The staff greeted us warmly at the entrance, and the front desk experience was seamless. We were given a detailed list of resort benefits, including:
- Free mobile hotspot: (a lifesaver for the week, especially at the beach).
- Free GoPro rental: for capturing special moments.
- Access to games and activities: included in the resort fee.
The personal touches made us feel valued; our check-in process concluded with complimentary Hawaiian cookies, snacks, and bottled water. To our delight, they allowed us to check in at 11 a.m., 4 hours earlier than the usual 3 p.m. check-in time, which was incredibly convenient for starting our vacation early.
2. Renovations and Holiday Spirit
The renovations completed in May 2024 have elevated this hotel to a whole new level. Everything feels fresh and modern, from the lobby and hallways to the beautifully designed rooms in the Ainahau Tower. The rooms now exude a luxury vibe, with thoughtful details that enhance the guest experience.
Additionally, the hotel embraced the holiday season with incredible Christmas decorations that created a warm, festive atmosphere. It's clear they're going above and beyond to impress guests post-renovation.
The "only downside" was the elevators--only 2 of 4 were operational due to ongoing upgrades in certain parts of the hotel. While it caused minor delays, it didn't overshadow the overall experience.
3. Family-Friendly Pool Area
The pool was a highlight for my family. The towel service was smooth and efficient; just scan your room card, and staff provide the towels you need. One staff member, Floyd, went above and beyond, remembering my kids' names and engaging with them daily. He even let us borrow a floater for the beach, which added a personal touch to our stay.
The pool area was perfect for relaxation. Whether lounging with a book, taking a nap, or browsing online, it offered a peaceful escape. On weekends, the energy picks up with a live DJ and singers who entertain pool-goers. Live music from the Splash Bar can be heard throughout the lobby as well late night.
4. Unbeatable Location
The hotel is located in the heart of Waikiki, making it incredibly convenient for shopping, dining, and sightseeing. High-end luxury stores and casual shops are just steps away. Even better, the beach is directly across the street; simply walk through the Moana Surfrider, and you're there!
5. Inclusive Games and Activities for All Ages
The resort fee includes access to an impressive selection of games that kept our kids entertained for hours. These include:
Pool Table, Ping Pong Table , Shuffleboard , Giant Jenga, Connect Four and Cornhole . The bell desk makes it easy to check out any equipment, ensuring hassle-free family fun.
6. Engaging and Free Daily Activities
One of the biggest surprises of our stay was the variety of free daily activities offered by the hotel. These activities were well-organized, enjoyable, and great for all ages. Here are some of the highlights:
- Hula Dancing: This activity, held on the second floor, was perfect for families and kids. The instructors made it fun and engaging, teaching us basic moves while sharing a bit of Hawaiian culture.
- Lei Making: We loved this activity so much that we did it twice! Instead of spending $20-$30 per lei at a market, we made our own with guidance from friendly staff. They even helped us capture a family photo once we finished.
- Ribbon Lei Making: Using leaves to craft figurines and keepsakes was a unique and creative experience held at the Splash Bar.
- Storytelling with Tutu: Tutu, a Hawaiian grandmother, captivated the children with her stories, cultural artifacts, and interactive questions. This activity was especially memorable while waiting for our airport transportation.
- Ukulele Lessons: We learned three basic chords and played "Happy Birthday" and "You Are My Sunshine" as a group. It was surprisingly simple and a great family bonding moment.
- Fishpond Feeding: Feeding koi, crayfish, and small black fish with provided fish food was a hit with the kids and a peaceful way to spend time.
- Ho'ala Sunrise Ceremony: Although early (6 a.m.), this beach ceremony was a serene and spiritual experience. Guests sat on towels, listened to traditional songs, and participated in a refreshing dip in the ocean at sunrise.
-Moana Historic Tour: This lecture-style tour shares the history of Hawaii and the Moana Surfrider. It's better suited for adults, as younger kids may lose interest.
-Run Concierge: A guided who stopped at picturesque locations and took family photos. The pace was slow enough for the kids.
