Yelp
Review from a Guyanese perspective:
This place has been in the community for 15 years approximately.
Lots of traditional home-baked goods, fresh food and groceries.
This was my first visit.
I ordered cheese rolls, pine tarts, cassava pone, and salara.
The cheese rolls were freshly made. The Taste is comparable to Guyanese "cheese straws". They were large (bigger than Norman Sue), flakey and buttery, well-baked and really cheesy. Very home-made vibes. I may not need to bake em at home again . $1.50 each. They're rich. You may decide to eat half at a time.
The pine tarts were $1.50 each and also very tasty. We had a slice of salara for $3 and it was "excellent", so said my mom. I agree, it was good.
Cassavapone was also very nice. $3.00 for a pretty big size piece. It was more on the coconut side, dense and chewy as expected. They had a lil bag of mithai for $2.00, which I gotta try next time.
I can honestly recommend all of these without hesitation. The prices are reasonable. It's easy to be critical as a Guyanese of whether this food meets the standards of what you're used to growing up, but Shereen's doesn't fall short.
They said they only have certain things (polourri, potato ball etc.) in on Thurs to Sunday, which kinda sucked but it's okay. You just gotta choose which days you visit. Call to find out if they have what you want before you go in.
Shereen's also sells cooked food and other baked goods like chow mein, pepperpot (out of Dec season upon request), various curries, guyanese bread, coconut buns and more! (See pics)
They also have shelves of groceries and toiletries like casareep, Guyanese coffee, curry powder, mauby syrup, soap, shea butter etc. (See pics for more).
Bless up
