You've Probably Been Whale Watching, but These New Trips Offer 'Whale Listening'

"A research site on Vancouver Island where scientists study orcas and humpbacks using hydrophones placed in the Salish Sea; the setup allows visitors to eavesdrop on underwater vocalizations via the lighthouse's engine-room speakers, providing an onshore listening experience." - Stephanie Vermillion Stephanie Vermillion Stephanie Vermillion is a travel journalist and photographer covering culture and adventure for Travel + Leisure Outside, and more. Make a stop here. Its worth seeing this lighthouse. Short walk from the parking lot. The history is interest how this was built. Now its run by society. Well maintained site.

We went with the kids, it was a short walk thru the forest and down a big hill but well worth it. It was fun to play around with the giant Fresnel Lens and learn about the history. We even saw whales from the lighthouse deck. Would recommend for a relatively short excursion.

If you're at Shirley Delicious it's a short jaunt down to the lighthouse. My family is from Newfoundland and we have A LOT of lighthouses! This is a sweet one, well taken care of by volunteers and their local organisation. But the views are something else. Definitely worth it if you want big open views of the straight.

We loved this spot. We got a beautiful summer day and saw a giant pod of 5-6 humpbacks feasting and jumping out of the water.

Had a great experience driving down to and walking up to Sheringham point lighthouse the other day. Few folks were just leaving, and a bunch of others arrived behind us as we arrived at the lighthouse. So as I walked up to it, I was able to grab a bunch of stunning images of the lighthouse by itself. It was a foggy day. There are some amazing views to look forward to when you're there. If you haven't been here yet, add it to your list. I just successfully checked it off mine! 💯

Sheringham Point Lighthouse is a must see! It is about a 15ish minute walk/hike to get to from the offsite parking lot, but the views are truly breathtaking. The property is very well maintained by the conservation society that oversees its maintenance. There is a very clean outhouse on site for use during park open hours. There is a wide walking path that is hard packed shale/gravel. About a 4/10 on the difficulty scale for the walk/hike up and down to the lighthouse. Make this a priority to visit. You will not regret it!!

We had time in our day to make a trip north and decided to visit this lighthouse. I have mixed feelings about it, because while the lighthouse is adorable and really cool, it is a gigantic pain the the rear to get to. The road to the parking lot is extremely narrow and busy, so expect to jocky awkwardly around other cars going the opposite direction. The parking lot is tiny as well. Then you have to take a trail just to get to the start of the lighthouse trail, which is a really steep long hike. I had an injured leg, so I could only look at it from a distance while the rest of my family got up close. They thoroughly enjoyed it, so I give it a solid 4 stars despite difficulty of access.

A great little walk and the lighthouse and display building are very neat. The views from the lighthouse are worth the walk alone. The gentleman minding the displays and chatting was outstanding.
