Sherman's of South Haven

Very odd experience. I went 2 days in a row with 2 other people. Day 1, we all got small, melted cups of ice cream. Day 2, we got much bigger servings because we ordered cones. On day 2, we also picked out 2 shirts, no prices shown. Total was 2 cents from $100....... Must have to be from SoHa to understand their servings and prices. Also, the cotton candy is the same recipe as another ice cream shop in MI. Thought that was strange.

Great stop in S Haven. The ice cream was A+. I loved the hard scooped chocolate malted. Lines back up under the tent. 2 order windows and a pick up window to the side. Seating is basically just picnic tables on the edge of the parking lot. That is my only knock on the place...but its a big shortcoming for a place this popular and crowded. Create a unique, dedicated seating area and Sherman's is instantly 5 stars

We had an ice cream craving. Dropped in and got 2 cones. Praline pecan and Butter pecan. Both were delicious, creamy and smooth. The cones were great. Good portions for the price. Fast friendly service. Recommended-MVP

Incredible ice cream! The service was fast and the staff were so nice. We had a huge order of over 20 people and the team did a fantastic job handling the order with no errors. While I was not a fan of the location being next to a busy road, I think the barrier could be extended or closed off to make the ordering area a little safer for kids. The location is prime between the Jellystone resort and the lake though. One thing to be aware is that the portions are massive! I ordered the yellow cake batter and it was absolutely delicious. We will be returning the next time we are in the area.

Reviewing Sherman’s is a strange thing. I grew up coming here after a sunset during the summers, and remember the very long lines followed by delicious ice cream. The experience is a little different these days. No inside eating area, no free water, and the lines are entirely outside now. The flavors are very good, and it’s still great ice cream with generous portions. I recommend the amaretto cherry! If I had to offer one criticism…If you want to try more than one flavor, you must order a double; according to the menu. Everyone in like was commenting on how large the portions were. I imagine a lot of ice cream gets tossed in to the trash with that size of portions. The image shown is a single waffle that we asked if they would split into two flavors.

So glad Sherman's is reopened. This iconic ice cream place has been a favorite for many for years. And you won't be disappointed too. Service is top notch and streamlined with electronic pickup making long lines go quickly. The only problem is the huge variety making choices a challenge. Portions are out of this world bring an appetite and a friend to share.

A local friend recommended this place while we were on vacation, and it did not disappoint! We each had a baby waffle cone of different ice cream choices, and we each LOVED it! We will definitely stop again if we’re in the area!

On our trip to SH we noticed a line here every time we would drive by and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Their ice cream was delicious- and the serving sizes are HUGE so either go small or think about sharing. Even though there was a line it went very quickly. Will be back next time we are in the area!

Nice to come for ice cream on a hot sunny day. Lots of flavor options, check out their website for flavor details. Plenty of dog friendly outdoor seating available. They also have covered open seating as well. The single scoop is actually a double scoop on a cup or cone (see pictures for size). Customer service: staff were friendly and not much of a wait for the ice cream. Single scoop ($5.99): generous single scoop that is technically a double scoop Flavors tried: Grasshopper: Mint ice cream with chocolate cookie fudge swirl. It tastes similar to mint chocolate ice cream. Refreshing and good. Strawberry cheesecake: yummy although I had anticipated cheesecake pieces. This comes with cheesecake flavor ice cream and strawberry sauce swirl. I'd be back if I was in the area to try other flavors

We went and got the Sherman's flight to try 6 flavors (sampler serving which is a big scoop each!) we got cherry, blueberry, chocolate, blue moon, cookie dough, and strawberry cheesecake. The flavors are wonderful! They do not have a dine in area but there are benches outside to sit and enjoy! The service is speedy considering how packed they were on a weekday (while it is still cold out!)

Was driving up to Holland but had to make a stop at Sherman's. Haven't been here in years and they must have closed the inside sitting area during COVId I would think. Not sure why else that would have closed. They have two walk up windows now with the list of all the ice creams and options on the window. The prices seemed higher but you certainly get plenty of ice cream for your money. The service was fine and my ice cream was up a few minutes after I ordered. I had two scoops in a waffle cone. It was just as good as I remember.

We all really enjoyed Sherman's. The workers were so kind and friendly and there were so many flavors to choose from, which was great for everyone in our group. I appreciate that they have a frozen chocolate dipped banana and sorbet options for dairy free but wish they had one ice cream flavor they kept consistently. The portions were huge and everyone in my group said they wished they were served like traditional cones but overall, it was a great experience! Would definitely recommend!

One of our favorite stops to make when we are in the area. Their homemade ice cream is delicious. This time we had the Butter Pecan and the Mackinac Fudge. Sometimes there is a long line and sometimes you get lucky and can walk right up to order. It is worth the wait!

I have been coming to Sherman Dairy since I was three years old, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I have been getting the Tour of Sherman when I come now, because I only get to go once a year, and I want more than one flavor! Coconut almond fudge is one of my all-time faves along with yellow cake butter The ice cream is just the best, and the environment is summery and chill! I went with two other people, and our orders were out within like 5-10 minutes on a Friday night - very good!

Expect a long wait, but the ice cream is phenomenal. I heard they are closing their doors which made me sad.

After dinner and on our way back to our rental home we stopped by here for some deliciousness. Line went quick and we were all happy with our desserts.

Love Sherman's! It was the treat we all looked forward to when camping. Sorry to hear they are closing. I guess good things do come to an end.

We saw this place on our way to Three Blondes Brewery and figured we would stop here for dessert afterwards. From the reviews it appears to be a must-stop while you're in SoHa for premium ice cream. They take your name and order and you pick up at a different window. I had the 14% butterfat chocolate peanut butter waffle cone that was excellent. It was a large portions d had chunks of a peanut butter cup inside. Cash or card. Lines can be long at prime times but a shaded canopy is provided. Ample lot parking. Limited outdoor seating only. Service was a bit slow with the kids horsing around and laughing more than scooping ice cream but it was only about 10 minutes. Expensive but as I always say to keep things in perspective "It's still cheaper than Vegas." I would return when I'm back in the area.

On vacation in S. Haven, Mich and got off our exit to go to Sunny Brook RV Park and passed Sherman's Dairy Bar and it had the coolest 2 blue cows on top of their roof!! I knew then we would be eating ice cream quite often since the park is less than 10 min away, hooray!!! We came back to check things out and this place did not disappoint. Hub and I both got single scoops of Butter pecan in a cup. Strohs ice cream, you have big shoes to fill!! The portions were so generous, other ice cream places are so stingy at the amount they give you, some charge even higher prices for what we got. Just delicious and cold and refreshing our ice cream was. We truly enjoyed this ice cream and cannot say enough good things about it. The place was very busy with people of all ages enjoying themselves and being treated to this delicious ice cream. So great to see so many groups of people, groups of families and their children spending quality time and making memories of their visit at Sherman's!! Our visit did not disappoint, we will return again soon, maybe tomorrow, and the next day!! Highly recommend trying this wonderful place, you will be delighted!! Debbie/ Riverview Michigan

Just ok for me. The vegan options is 1 flavor of sorbet. So...not really optionS. It was fine. My family got mint chocolate chip, superman and birthday cake and we all agreed it just wasn't super flavorful. Portions were huge but I don't get the fanfare.

Did you know Blue Moon Ice Cream is made from blue cows? Sherman's ice cream has some of the best consistency and flavored classic hard scoop ice cream out there! I got the Sherman Flight which gave us 6 half scoops (which are really like kiddie scoops anywhere else). My favorites were the Superman, Cookie Dough, and Sherman's Tracks. You really can't go wrong with any flavor. The sizes are ridiculously huge. The baby is about the size of a double scoop, the single scoop is about an extra large, and the double is easily bigger than the average sized head. The lines are always long in the summer but it goes by quickly. The staff are soooo nice too! You can tell they really love eating and serving one of the best desserts out there. If you're looking to eat there, there are a few tables to enjoy your mountain sized scoops. Must stop if you're in South Haven

Cute place with great service and the ice cream flavors did not disappoint! We ended up coming here twice in the few days we were in South Haven on vacation to try more flavors. Highly recommend grabbing a sweet treat from here and heading up to the bluff over the beach to enjoy it!

The line at this dairy bar speaks volumes. For every hour that Sherman's Dairy Bar is open there is a line. So curiously we went on a Friday night around 9pm (after a big dinner btw). What a treat! The line didn't lie. We ordered a double scoop sundae (blue moon and yellow cake topped with marshmallow and butterscotch toppings) and my mom ordered a Hokey Pokey. How cow! Both were HUGE servings of ice cream and delicious!!! They were a meal in themselves thats for sure. There was a little girl with a triple scoop on a cone that was so gigantic I'm not sure how she was balancing that cone. Only tables were outside but in nice weather it's perfect. Next time I'll have ice cream for dinner, it's well worth it!

This place is popular AND kind of slow moving, so be prepared to wait (and wait and wait...as I had to, although my 2 sisters were served much faster). There is a canopy to wait under while you decide which of 29 flavors you will choose at the first window, & then wait near the second window for your treats. They are all good. Scoops are large, lots of flavor & know that a one-scoop sundae looks like it has more like 4 scoops!

If you're grabbing an ice cream with a friend and like options, I highly recommend splitting a sampler. It's $1 cheaper than if the two of you got your own cone. Also, who wouldn't want to try six flavors? It'll help you try all 29 flavors that much faster. My top pick: cinnamon.

Super cute ice cream shop right off the highway that has tons of amazing flavors. This is my second time stopping by and the friendly folks behind the counter were able to recommend a flavor I absolutely loved- french silk. The line was long, but moved fast and I got my ice cream right away. Plenty of outdoor seating with some covered options and super family friendly. Stop by if you're in the area and you will not be disappointed!

Hands down, one of the bet I've cream spots I've ever been to! We got the brownie sundae and this was a SMALLLLLL!!! Can't imagine what the large is like!!!! It was perfect for 2 people! The flavor was incredible! It was just the right amount of sweet, very light, very fluffy, and the combination of ingredients was perfect! When we got there, we had a line of around 20 people ahead of us already. This was a Saturday afternoon, so I imagine it gets quite busy on the weekends. We waited around 15 minutes in the line and another 15 minutes to get our order. The staff is so hard working and does their absolute best to get orders out ASAP! And the flavor was well worth it! If you're in the area and are looking for delicious ice cream, would HIGHLY recommend!

I went here yesterday and I had their raspberry sorbet. It was delicious. Definitely would come here again.

Good ice cream served in large quantities is what you'll find here. I got a single of amaretto cherry on a waffle cone, and I'm glad we stopped mid-afternoon because after dinner I probably would've gotten too full to eat it all. The ice cream itself was tasty, with generous amounts of chocolate fudge swirled in. In a world where the grocery store ice cream aisle has a lot more flavors than a decade or two ago, I would have liked to see more unique flavor options on the menu at Sherman's. That said, I enjoyed my stop here and would definitely recommend it on a trip to South Haven.

Great local ice cream, huge portions, as expected though with their prices high prices. They no longer make the ice cream here, it is made by Hudsonville for them, I asked and always ask where is it made. Probably a cost thing, why wouldn't they be able to make it for less at a huge mass produced factory? Their prices should reflect this though.

This is destination ice cream. I was so fortunate that my friend knew of the place from a previous trip, driving back and forth from Chicago to Grand Rapids. I say, if you are any where in a 50 mile radius, do a road trip toward this ice cream experience

Wow! This place is awesome. I used to live in Pennsylvania and loved a plca called Handles. Living in Michigan the food is not always great. . But this is the best ice cream I have had. The people working are quick and awesome at their job. The place is huge many spots to park and also settle down and eat. The price is great for the size. A double scoop here is about 6-8 scoops anywhere else. Please give them your service. Definitely recommend.

Quality ice cream! Service is slow, but the ice cream is really good, and the portions are really generous.

The ice cream was good but I was disappointed from their lack of dairy free and vegan options. Since it is 2024 and we have found there are many ways to make dairy free ice cream, I was sad to see that they have not attempted. The ice cream was pretty good overall. My family enjoy theirs but I am always looking for a place that every person in my family can enjoy even those with dairy allergies.

We were just there and bought a quart of ice cream, it cost $ 14! It wasn't the Sherman's ice cream I remember, besides being outrageously expensive it's not any good. A quart is 4 cups, we were totally cheated! I will never go there again.

It's been forever since I've gotten ice cream here. I showed up when there was a line but it moved fast. Everything is on a sign on the outside. It's great you can see what people are having as they walk by. No lie a single scoop is still pretty big and I got the black cherry with chocolate. Don't throw away your receipt bc they call your order number from it. And you go to the window to pick it up. Seating is picnic tables in both sides of the building. I can't wait to come back next year and get the banana split!

Probably my favorite place to get Ice Cream in the whole world. We always stop to get a cone on our way to and from the beach.Fun old fashioned feel. Love the berry ice cream but any flavor is amazing. Staff friendly and long lines just mean it is the best!!! Don't hesitate to stop!

I've been coming to Sherman's for about 30 years, and it never gets old! We vacationed in South Haven growing up, and now I live SUPER far away, but I was able to visit again this summer. The lines were incredibly long, but who cares when the night is beautiful, the people in line are friendly, and the workers are super sweet and hard-working! I do miss the inside seating that used to be around, but still a fun experience!

Great ice cream and huge portions! The staff here was beyond friendly. Perfect place to stop by on a hot day and head a cone. Highly recommend checking this place out if you are near by. The prices are a little high but it's well worth it.

The best place to get ice cream in Michigan. I have so many beautiful memories here with my family. I know of many families that are emotionally attached to this place because it's that special. I haven't tried every single flavor there but would bet money that they are ALL delicious. Their ice cream really is one of a kind!

Manager was so rude, would not answer a simple question. Do NOT recommend. I wish I got ice cream to review but I walked out after the rude encounter.

Wow! First-timer in South Haven and I now understand why there's a line wrapped around the building every time we drive by! They have a wide variety of flavors and a bunch of different ordering options (single scoop, double scoop, 6 scoop sampler, etc). Large portions! The prices were a little on the higher side, but definitely recommend trying! Of note, their website is very informative! Pictures and descriptions of all the flavors! This was useful since they aren't allowed to give samples due to Covid concerns.

A South Haven institution that cannot be missed if you are in town! The lines can get long but are part of the process and charm. The line being outdoor with order windows seems to make thing feel more organized than the old number system they had before and the ice cream flavor choices are great! My personal favorites are the amaretto cherry and Mackinac fudge!

A must try if visiting South Haven. Ice cream is made in house. I ordered a single waffle cone of the chocolate peanut butter. It. Was. Huge! Easily a double scoop elsewhere. Still, I couldn't get enough. Ice cream was SO good. It was creamy, rich, and with true flavors that shine in every bite. Waffle cone was fresh and crisp. My kids opted to share a flight. Yes, they serve flights of ice cream! Six (smaller) scoops of you choice. My children chose grasshopper, chocolate peanut butter, cookies n' cream cheesecake, salted caramel, black cherry and turtle. They loved them all, but the the black cherry, chocolate peanut butter and cookies n' cream cheesecake were their top three. Ice cream is ordered at a walk up window. Apparently, they once had inside dining. That was closed due to COVID. Once your order is ready your name is called. The wait was only a few minuets. My only disappointment is that we only had time to visit once during our trip to South Haven. Seriously, why did we make s'mores the day before?
