Shichahai Shadow Art Performance

We loved our stay here! The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and tidy (maybe a bit tired looking) but we were happy and comfortable. There is a shadow art performance every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday which is free for guests! Would recommend watching at least one as it's fascinating! Free drinks to be had and breakfast is reasonably priced as is the laundry. In the cultural part of the city with great food choices around. Couple of subway stations also not far away. Would recommend!

We picked this hotel due to the Shadow Puppet performances and were very pleased. The shadow puppet performance was amazing! Everyone was very nice, especially Tom who helped us with our luggage. It was very nice that they had team and coffee available in the lobby. It was also a great location that allowed you to experience being in the hutongs but was also close enough to main roads for Didi access. The one small downside was that the beds were definitely firm side. We spent most of our time outside of the hotel anyway but it did make sleeping a bit less comfortable.

The hotel itself is beautiful, very clean and friendly staff. The location is excellent, located in a traditional and beautiful hutong close to the forbidden city. The room was spacious for a couple and had everything for a pleasant stay. Tom and Misa were very helpful during my stay, both of them are friendly and recommended a lot of activities to do and see in Beijing. For the first day we received a courtesy breakfast, I really recommend the breakfast at this hotel, it's delicious. For my next visit to Beijing I'll not hesitate to book this hotel again, I really recommend this hotel.

My friend and I stayed for 10 days here and it was great! The rooms are a good size and the bathroom is lovely and posh feeling. Water bottles are provided everyday in the room, and there is free tea and coffee in the foyer. I saw a previous review complaining about lack of teabags, toothbrush and other items in the rooms - but if you read the sheet they give you upon arrival, due to Chinese regulations they can't put them in your room but if you ask at the front desk they'll provide these things for you! Laundry service is £3 (30 yuan) Breakfast is £4 (40 yuan) Paid via Alipay/weixinpay at the bar when needed! The aircon is good and I slept well every night with no complaints. The hotel is situated in the Shichahai Hutongs, a small walk from the Shichihai lake which has a huge cultural area, restaurants and shops. Do not stay at this hotel if you expect to be in central Beijing city, as this hotel is in the cultural area in the Hutongs!! You can get a cheap taxi at the front desk of the hotel with 1 hour notice, or download the DiDi app and order one yourself (though it is a tight squeeze, they will pick you up from the Hutongs!). The shadow puppet show by Master Maomao and the workers was spectacular and truly worth seeing if you're going to Beijing for the cultural History. From a British perspective this is a great hotel and worth the money (relatively cheap compared to hotels in the UK). I was lucky that my friend speaks Chinese well, but using a translation app would work as well.

My stay was very good. Master Misa & Prince, working at the hotel are super friendly. There is delicious healing tea for free whenever you want, very comforting. The neighborhood is very cute, safe: recommend just walking around the ponds and getting food in the small local places X

First stop for our 5wk Asia trip. Great location in traditional Hutong, staff very helpful and accomodating. Very comfy bed and good breakfast sandwich available to start each day. Some filming taking place in lounge in morning we were leaving, which may have been frustrating for some. Otherwise great experience staying here - would recommend

The Schichahai Shadow Art Performance Hotel was the perfect start to our Trip in China. The staff is very friendly and helpful, especially Jerry who helped us with purchasing train Tickets to our next destination. The Shadow Art Performance by Master Mao was also very interesting and a must See! The Location of the Hotel is great too. The Beihai Bei Subway Station is near and you can reach the famous Peking Sights with the Subway very convenient. If you Explore the districts near you get a good Insight of the life of some local people too.

We stayed here for 4 days to enjoy Beijing. The hotel is located in one of the Hutongs, the old part of the town. It is close to the forbidden city (with taxi or bike). The shadow art performances are very nice and interesting, they perform 3 or 4 times per week, so not every evening. The rooms are very comfortable, but my special blessings go out to the hotel staff Longlong, Tang Tang, Hui Hui, Xuan Xuan, Wen Wen, and Erjie. They were magnificent in making our stay perfect. At every time we got more service than could have expected. They were being always enthusiastic and diligent in their work. I would for sure recommend you staying here if you go to Beijing. I would prefer this place over any anonymous big top hotel.
