We stayed here for 4 days to enjoy Beijing. The hotel is located in one of the Hutongs, the old part of the town. It is close to the forbidden city (with taxi or bike). The shadow art performances are very nice and interesting, they perform 3 or 4 times per week, so not every evening. The rooms are very comfortable, but my special blessings go out to the hotel staff Longlong, Tang Tang, Hui Hui, Xuan Xuan, Wen Wen, and Erjie. They were magnificent in making our stay perfect. At every time we got more service than could have expected. They were being always enthusiastic and diligent in their work. I would for sure recommend you staying here if you go to Beijing. I would prefer this place over any anonymous big top hotel.

10 out of 10!Fantastic location, authentic vibes, and wonderful staff. I arrived early in the morning (7am), so I booked the night before to ensure a smooth check-in. I was greeted by the lovely receptionist, Jerry, who was incredibly helpful and kind. There’s no elevator at the property, but Jerry kindly helped me with all of my bags. I also needed an iron, and he provided a steamer instead — such great service! The room was clean, quiet, and well-equipped — everything I needed.A special highlight of my stay was the traditional shadow puppet show — such a unique and memorable experience. The daytime receptionist, Tom, was also very helpful and attentive.Highly recommend this place — a perfect blend of comfort, culture, and hospitality!

Our four-night stay at the Shadow Arts Performance Hotel was truly memorable. Tucked away in a hutong near ShiChaHai, the location offered an authentic glimpse into local life. Every morning, we’d see residents walking their kids to school, neighbors exercising, or playing ping pong and kicking shuttlecocks in the nearby park—it felt like being part of the community. The highlight for my child was the live Shadow Arts Performance, held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 8 pm. The skill and dedication behind the show were impressive, and it was heartening to see such care taken to preserve this intangible cultural heritage (非遗文化). The optional workshop afterward, offered for a small fee, was a nice touch for those wanting a deeper experience. What really made our stay special, though, was the staff. Tom and Jerry at the front desk, the manager 二姐, and the housekeeping team (李大姐 and 郑大姐) went out of their way to help—whether it was assisting with takeout orders when our phones wouldn’t cooperate or just offering friendly advice. Their warmth made the hotel feel like a home. If you’re looking for a place that blends local charm, cultural immersion, and genuine hospitality, this is it.

Great place! Everyone was so nice and helpful! The staff went above and beyond helping us find our way around since we couldn't use Google maps to use the subway. The free shadow art performance was also super fun! The rooms were nice as well. Comfortable and cozy. They even provide two free water bottles daily. The location is also great!

Unique place to stay among the hutong (old Beijing alley) that was comfortable and in a convenient location. It is a half mile walk to the nearest subway stop. There are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity - have to walk north to Houhai or towards the subway - and they are local.||Had a room on the 2F to the left of the theater. The windows of the room face the theater area, taking in both the light from outdoors and the theater area itself. It can be noisy if kids are in the theater area so avoid rooms around the courtyard if that bothers. ||The curtains block out the light pretty well. The bed was comfortable (not as hard as Chinese beds can be) and was 2 twin mattresses put together to make a king size bed. That also creates a dip in the middle. Bathroom was a little tight between the shower and the sink, but the water gets hot quickly. This particular room had some water damage to the floor outside of the bathroom, but it is not a deal breaker.||The main thing to note is that Trip Advisor lists free breakfast. Breakfast is not free, but probably worth it for most people considering the sparseness of anything immediately nearby. There are little shops close by to get fruit, drinks and snacks.||Shadow puppet performances are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights. This should be on the list of things to do if you are staying here. I didn't have time to take part of any of the classes, but they are good for kids as well as adults.||There are no elevators, but the staff is very helpful in carrying luggage up the stairs.||The place has character and gives a chance to live in the midst of the locals without overwhelming the neighborhood. I would stay again, especially to explore more of the alleys and Houhai on foot or in a bicycle rickshaw (have to understand Chinese).

5 Stars- Memorable Stay with Exceptional Service I had a wonderful stay at the Beijing Shichahai Shadow Art Performance Courtyard Hotel. The hotel itself is charming, clean and full of unique cultural character, offering a truly memorable Beijing experience.A special thank you to the front desk team-Jocelyn, Julie, Lilly,Tom and Jerry -- for their outstanding service. They were incredibly warm, professional, and always ready to help, whether it was arranging transport, recommending and helping with booking places to visit,or just offering a kind smile. Their hospitality made me feel right at home.I highly recommend this courtyard hotel to anyone visiting Beijing. The combination of location, atmosphere, hutong and exceptional staff makes it a standout choice. I'll definitely be back

Our family stayed here for 4 nights, staying in the family room (2 Adults, 2 Children). We were so impressed with the hotel, a real calm Oasis and just what we needed to get acclimatised with Beijing. ||Our room was clean and spacious. The kids had to share a bed which was a large window seating area. Sounds odd, but they were Ok with it and slept well! It was hard, but again, they were OK with it and enjoyed looking out onto the street to see the hive of activity. The main beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was great, only negative is the door didn't close properly but we coped. ||We had breakfast most days, good value for money. Coffee and water available all day. ||We enjoyed the puppet painting and the puppet show was fabulous. The kids loved it, especially when they got to have a go at the end....with the puppet they had painted. Very interesting thing to do. ||The staff were lovely and friendly. Translation app was a godsend, but we all muddled through and some staff had great English. ||We liked the location, 10 min walk through quirky streets to the main lake area. Several little corner shops close by to get emergency supplies. ||Mindful some Taxi's can't get to the hotel door, but we just picked one up at the end of the street. ||If you are traveling with kids, i would definitely recommend.

I have been there two nights and everything is so nice! The staffs are enthusiasm, they introduced the visiting places and Tom, Jerry, Mia, Lovely help us rent the bicycle. The boss held the puppet show at Tues, Thurs and Friday's night. He dedicated to the profession. If have chance, I will comeback this hotel. Wish the hotel always growth up and being special place in Beijing<3
