Shima Kanko Hotel The Bay Suites (Shima, Mie Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Japan’s Ise-Shima region, in Mie prefecture, may not be on everyone’s radar yet, but home to Shinto’s holiest shrine, Ise Jingu, and several other sacred sites, it’s always been a popular domestic travel destination. Since the G7 summit right here at Shima Kanko Hotel in 2016, it has gained a bit more international attention. And more relevant to those of us who weren’t invited to the G7 is the fact that Shima Kanko’s newer, 50-room Baysuites wing is perhaps the best option for enjoying the area, which maintains the slow tempo and unspoiled landscapes for which Japanese country life is famous." - Tablet Hotels

As my husband and I came to the end of our month long travels throughout Japan, we couldn't bare the thought of leaving. So we didn't. We extended our wonderful holiday and headed to the magnificent Shima Peninsula where we were rewarded with two beautiful hotel stays and some very special scenery. This region didn't appear to have many North American tourists and that's a shame because this area is stunningly beautiful and no where near as crowded as the other areas we travelled, namely Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kanazawa, Hiroshima and to some degree Shikoku Island. |This hotel is a short walk from the train station although there is a shuttle if you're unable to walk. The property grounds and gardens are gorgeous. Even in late November we were able to sit in our shirt sleeves in the garden. The lobby is so beautiful as are the employees who greet you upon your arrival. We had a corner room where we watched the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the water. The rooftop deck was also a lovely spot to watch the sunset. |Our corner room, 536, was lovely with a very comfortable bed, a well stocked tea/coffee station, a mini fridge and good size storage with a closet. The toiletries and skin care products were very nice. |One of the best things about this property is the lounge on the second floor. There are complementary food and beverages (non alcoholic and alcohol) available all day and these items change as the day progresses. The breakfast buffet is massive and excellent even for a vegetarian, well worth the price. The view from the dining room is over the water and spectacular. |One of the benefits of staying at this property is that you can also use the guest lounge at the Bay Suites Property just up the road. Their roof top deck and lounge is beautiful. The complementary food and drink offerings are the best we saw anywhere in our five week stay in Japan. This hotel is very special. Lovely room, exceptional staff!|The service at this hotel is top notch. I can't imagine being disappointed in anything about this property.

One of the best hotel in Japan. Hotel itself is in a small island. You can see the beautiful ocean from every room, even from the bath. Food is very good. Staff are so nice. Train from Osaka and Nagoya connect directly to a station that is near the hotel. Hotel has limousine service it takes about 5 min. Go to Shima if you like to discover hidden Japanese travel spot.

Because I wanted to experience their French Restaurant called La Mer, I decided to stay here. And I was not disappointed. The food at the restaurant was superb and I like it better because the executive chef, Higuchi Hiroe-san, is a woman. I saw her in one of NHK World TV’s program called The Trails To Oishii Tokyo. This is the hotel where G7 Summits were held in 2016 and my room was occupied by David Cameron. However, since my room is at the end of the corridor, it’s rather a long walk to the elevators. But a good exercise! This is my first time in this area and I’m very impressed. The whole area is so beautiful, lots of lush green trees and nice views of water all over. It’s too bad that it’s a rather hard to come here from Tokyo. I stayed at Irago on the way and plan to stop overnight in Nippondaira on the way back to Tokyo. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who would like good food and relaxations.

This was definitely my best experience at a hotel in Japan. Hotel staff were very courteous and attentive. We were treated like VIPs throughout the stay. Our room was superb, with a great view of the bay. The bed and pillows were very comfortable (where can we buy those pillows?). The room was very quiet. In many hotels, you will often hear some buzzing noise of AC (?), but not in this hotel. | We particularly enjoyed our time in the guest lounge with a reading room—looking over Ago Bay at sunset and enjoying small but exquisite hors d'oeuvres (the quiche was a killer!). For non-readers, this is a romantic place to look into your lover’s eyes. I enjoyed reading, relaxing next to my husband, who was sipping wine. I couldn’t finish “Karei-naru Ichizoku” so we will come back to finish the book. It would be better if the reading room had a better selection of books both in Japanese and in English--for example, some novels set in ocean resort hotels (I can recommend some), and reading lamps (for after sunset). | Our stay concluded with an amazing breakfast. Although it was called “American breakfast,” it came with soup (which tasted great) and a salad (which tasted great, too, and very very fresh—cucumbers tasted amazingly juicy). I have never had a better egg benedict! The hollandaise sauce is flavored with shrimp, elevating the egg benedict to a real French dish. Overall, this is the best place to come when you want to be pampered. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.|

Great hotel. The views from this place are breathtaking taking. Not much can be said. Almost worth a visit for the view alone. The top floor has a restaurant and lounge with access to this great view. But in my opinion the crown jewel is the roof garden. Absolutely beautiful 😍

Stayed here on a Saturday night and had a very nice time. ||The hotel previously hosted the G7 summit and there is memorabilia from the event all over the hotel.||The rooms aren't bad, but certainly not what you'd expect of a five-star hotel.||A huge win for the guest floor with free drinks and snacks. The gym had a couple of machines, could definitely do with more equipment. ||The food and restaurant was exceptional. Particularly good abalone steak and terrine dishes. I would recommend this hotel for a stay in the Mie / Shima area.

This hotel boasts the most amazing rooms. So much space, with appealing furniture and gorgeous views. My favorite part was the bathroom, with its fantastic view, and nice shower head and tub, double sinks, and a toilet that opens its lid automatically. The bed was living room was nicely laid out, with a huge tv and another gorgeous view. We were only here for one night, so didn’t get to enjoy any amenities other than the lounge and restaurant.

We stayed one night at the hotel. Our suite was spacious clean, and comfortable. The room has a modern design with remarkable decoration that is impressive.|We were a bit disappointed to find that the hotel basically has no facility at all! No swimming pool and a so-called spa of only the size of 3 bathtubs for use by hotel customers. We felt stuck in the hotel! There were no restaurants nearby. We had dinner at the Japanese restaurant and the quality of food was average. The lobster sashimi and fried abalone were acceptable but the sushi was far below my expectation!

Yelp
It is a hotel known as the place where Ise-Shima summit was hold in 2016. We could see several items which was used the summit such as tables, chairs, commemorative photo places on that day. The scenery was nice because of in front of sea. Guests can enjoy free drink and snacks for free at the free guest space on the second story. The hotel redecorated before the summit. It was very clean and comfortable! If you go to lse Jingu, you can get on shuttle bus in front of the hotel.

Yelp
OMG!!! Their service was exquisite!!!! Their lounge is the place where you can relax and hang out by yourself or with friends comfortably. They offer sweets, savory and different kind of drinks (including alcohol). Plus, they have so many books and music room!!! Restaurant experience was also great!!! Their seafood curry is worse trying!!! (It is pricey, so my case I share one with other people).
