Shimada Museum

A very small but well curated museum. They have both English and French guides available at the desk. There is also a nice café. Worth a visit if you are interested in Miyamoto Musashi or if you are at a loose end.

Small, but carefully curated and beautifully displayed. Also a great little café to enjoy a drink and/or light lunch after your visit.

Not sure how much of what was on display was either antique or actually Musashi associated. It's a shame such an important historical figure isn't given a more prominent showing. As someone who cannot read Japanese, I struggled with translating half of the displays as only some were dual language.

This is a tiny museum in the outskirts of Kumamoto. Several authentic pieces of history relating to Musashi but the entire area only consists of 2 small rooms. As not all exhibits have an English translation, may not be worth the trip out and 700 yen entrance fee.

Small musuem relating to Miyamoto Musashi. You won't spend an extended period of time here but it's an interesting museum.

小さい美術館です。この内容で入場料700円は、 高い。宮本武蔵好きでないと、コスパの悪さを感じるのが、まず先に来る。だって利便性も悪いしね。田舎だから成立するのかなと思ってしまう。 この後、熊本城行ったから、細川家の概要や時代背景が入ってたから、理解には役立ったが⋯。隣のカフェは、真逆で、コスパも最高です。
