This place is a little tricky to find, but it's worth the effort as the okonomiyaki is truly a hidden gem in this hole in the wall (literally) restaurant! I recommend their modern yaki as it has a bit of everything, and if you're lucky to and get to sit at the bar, you can watch the masters at work!

A passage way which houses plenty of food stalls in Umeda area, can be considered food street. Went into a miso ramen store by the locals, surprisingly it's good and tasty. The portion is really generous and the gyoza tasted fantastic as well. Personally I'll prefer the gyoza. Pricing is normal and the staff are friendly. The shop is a bit small so the seating is limited. Queueing is still a norm here if you want to give it a try.

It's a crowded street full of all kinds of small restaurants. The location is not far from the train station and the prices ranged from cheap to expensive so you can always find the one you like. However, it was a bit shocking for me to know some Japanese smoke outside of the street and the fact that the street looks old and hasn't been amended for quite a while. Also, due to the width of the street and personal experience, I don't recommend to go with your luggage.

A much older yet with lots of food varieties at the subway station. Many are eateries with bar seats, mainly catered to blue-collar workers winding down after work. Bought takoyaki which was very delicious!

Amazing Takoyaki! With the super long lineups they are worth the wait! Limited standing tables, but allows take outs. The takoyakis are crispy outside with no soft batter inside. Had the regular and green onions. The sheer amount of green onions is overkill but great!

Visit os important to make sure that you will know how to figur the inside fasilities on second floor. They are Tatami room with many tables for exclusive room and provide siiting table for casual dine in. If you see the open box under the table make sure that you put your bag or item savely Food are nice choice and good taste and price is moderate Cook with fresh material and quick services with hospitable waiter

Local haunt amidst Umeda/Osaka station (near Hankyu). It was a great find to eat here as a tourist! We had the duck hotpot and tempura which were delicious. One of the best tempuras I had in Japan - the fish was fresh, the batter was just right, and even the squid was tender. The hotpot was also 🔥and had such a unique flavor. Prices were also reasonable.

You got to try the takoyaki stall, we order it with negi as we thought it was just the crowd hype but we are so wrong as it was awesomely delicious!!

Yelp
I should have gotten their Modern Okonomiyaki which is prob the style I liked the most(at least i based that on trying Chinchikurin in little Tokyo). I think the noodles would really add to the texture of it. With that said, I got the squid Okonomiyaki and it was still really good. I didn't have to wait as I came at an odd time so I was able to get sit right away. I also do kinda agree with one of the yelpers that they weren't the most friendliest people which is a bit unfortunate. Regardless the taste of the okonomiyaki was still delicious and that prob matters the most. * I miss Japan*

Yelp
Kiji has been on my bookmark forever and I finally got to try this place. I have read on so many reviews that this place is tiny and people usually line up over 1hr. So I arrived at the restaurant 30min before opening and stood in line. Luckily I was seated on the first round. My mom and I shared mix Okonomiyaki and a large size Modern, and they were heavenly. Modern yaki was wrapped with a thin layer of egg which was soft and subtly sweet. The noodles inside were really moist and tasty. Okonomiyaki was also excellent and the shiso leaf inside was a nice touch! I have never had shiso in okonomiyaki anywhere else before. Note that they don't take any additional orders besides drinks so this is why we ordered a large size modern. They only charge 50yen for a bigger size. The service...not particularly good. Though the guys work here are okay, one younger lady who takes orders is really unfriendly and grumpy. Not that I was happy with the service, but really cannot complain when they serve such good food at an unbeatable price. I would definitely go back! They have another location, which is prob bigger and newer.

Yelp
There's some fierce debate between locals as to which Okonomiyaki joint is second best (the first being: the comforts of your own house), and whereas Fukutarō and Ajinoya get a lot of love and attention due to being centrally located near Namba / Dōtombori and because they seem to attract quite a number of celebrities, Kiji's unwavering support among the older generations is as unwavering as the South's support for the Bush dynasty. That being said, if you ever find yourself stuck near the Umeda area on a rainy day with an hour to kill, be sure to head on down to the Shin Umeda Shokudōgai and hop in line at the far Northwest corner for some of the most sought-after yet unpretentious Okonomiyaki and Modan-yaki you'll find in Osaka. Try the Mix Okonomi if it's your first time visiting, and try to get a seat near the main counter for a Benihana-esque experience.

Yelp
Best place I've come across in Osaka and also in the whole country so far. The place is small and it looked really cool. Okonomiyaki お子の焼き For the first time foreigner, don't worry. They got you covered. They speak very minimal English but still understandable and they will recommend you their traditional dish. The wait is moderate I'll say. Since I travel alone it's pretty quick for a one person. You get to sit in front of the cooking staff. The owner or master chef is what made me want to give 10 stars if I could. He asked where I came from and we had a conversation and introduced me about the food and how you eat it. "We in Japan we don't use knife, we do *action*" I had the recommended dish and I didn't regret. The master chef gave me 3 different type of Okonomiyaki and it was BOMB. I was then given a letter as homework haha and later given a souvenir. It was very kind gesture. I sure will come back next time I visit Osaka.

Yelp
Miscellaneous restaurants stand intensively on this narrow Shinumeda commercial street. It's like a maze! The street was crowded with Osaka no Occhan (middle-aged men of Osaka) before, but at present young men and women can be seen. This Okonomiyaki (a kind of Japanese pancake cooked on an iron plate. It's not sweet for tea time, but a main dish for lunch or dinner. It is made from batter with bits of pork, seafood, egg and chopped cabbage and green onion) shop is not spacious, rather small-sized but crowded with customers at any time. Very hot and active inside. I went up stairs and was taken to the second floor. There were counter and table seats. I sat down on a counter seat. I went there alone, but I didn't feel uneasy, there were also another female customers coming here alone. I ordered not modern style but simple Butatama(pork and egg). It was very good. But I supposed that there would be a long line in front of the restaurant, and I ate it in haste. Next time I'll go to the branch in Umeda Sky Building. It has cleaner atmosphere than here. I can eat the one slowly.
