I have stayed at the Ship's Knees in the past 2 years to attend a conference on Cape Cod. After my experiences both times, I would not even consider staying anywhere else. Denise and Peter are super helpful and very friendly! The rooms are comfy and cozy and have so much character. We looked forward each morning to the delicious breakfast and enjoyed the fresh fruit and home made baked goods. The grounds are absolutely beautiful with summer flowers in bloom everywhere! The Ship's Knees is a very peaceful and relaxing setting. The inn is a short walk to the most beautiful beach on Cape Cod. I look forward to returning again next summer.

The Ship's Knees is a VERY nice place. The owners are extremely friendly, accommodating, and are all about service. The rooms was very nice, clean and comfortable. Being just a few block from Nauset beach is nice as well. We'll definitely stay there again when we head to the Cape.

This spot is beautifully maintained, the garden is exquisite and it is in a great location. The host Peter was very welcoming and helpful. My sister had a beautiful spacious room and bath. Our room, for the price point, was cramped so make your room choice thoughtfully with Peter’s help. For people with no allergies, the continental breakfast would work. Unfortunately both my husband and I have dietary restrictions and had to go to elsewhere to supplement the breakfast. Overall a good choice for a stay on the Cape!

Enough cannot be said of this outstanding property, from the clean and comfortable rooms, to the charm of a former sea captains home. Beautiful grounds, just a short walk to Nauset beach , an excellent pool on site if your not a beach type, and a relaxing fire pit to wind down to at night. Parking is great, area is quite and relaxing removed from a busy area but still a short drive to nearby local restaurants and shopping.

In looking for a place to stay for a few days on our first trip to Cape Cod we came across The Ship's Knees Inn as a last minute find, and we're so pleased we did! The location, our hosts and the facilities were excellent. We have no hesitation in recommending a stay with Peter and Denise at The Ship's Knees, great hosts, great value and a great location with only a few minutes walk to the beach.

Every now and then, the Universe provides with a little bit of heaven. This Inn is a gem hidden near Nauset Beach, probably the best stretch of sand in Cape Cod. Peter, Denise and the staff are welcoming and charming, professionals…I was home. Our first time in the Cape was a pleasant experience, it felt like a second honeymoon. We are coming back…

Fantastic experience; Peter, Denise, and team are certainly keeping up the quality and traditions I remember from wayyyyyyy back when in the early 70's, and their attention to their guests' needs and requests is just impeccable. You really feel like you've gained new friends after a couple days with them. Location is excellent for beach access and walks along the various small town roads in the vicinity. Finished off my stay with the 5-minute walk to Nauset beach at 5:00AM to catch a spectacular sunrise -- the colors of which put on a show for over an hour, painting the cloud banks (which I thought sure were going to spoil the event but instead enhanced it immensely) -- complete with ospreys and Arctic Terns diving for breakfast, a dozen seals cruising up and down the beach (one of which had caught probably a striper and was thrashing it in the surf), and the requisite throngs of gulls cruising for scraps.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and book this B & B for your next getaway. It's the place where everything is thought of for you. Just go, relax and enjoy yourself. Rooms are comfy and clean. Breakfast is delicious and there are fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the evening. Adirondack chairs by the fire pit, swing and hammocks under the trees and plenty of seating by the pool. Wine glasses and openers are available in each room. Books and board games along with beach chairs and umbrellas are available. 10 minute walk to Nauset Beach. Plenty of parking for your stay. This is a nice spot if you are traveling alone too. Adult only inn. Denise and Peter are exceptional hosts.

Yelp
Stayed here during off-peak (mid-April) on the weekend (~$190/night) in a deluxe Queen. Really enjoyed the stay, had fun starting my first fireplace fire, and the owners were sweet, welcoming people. They made sure that with our late arrival (~11pm since the office closes @ 7 or 8pm) would be easy and convenient for us. They set it up for us in advance so that it was easy to find, easy to get into the room. It's located in a sleepier part of Cape Cod so depending on what you're looking to do while in the Cape, this is more for a place of relaxation. They recommend not bringing children younger than 12. And let's just say that I'm pretty sure we wouldn't see many party people here during peak season either. In summary: + Convenient location, centrally located on the Cape + Great restaurants and shops within a 5-10 minute drive away + Nauset Beach is only 5 minutes away by car + Charming breakfast with a LOT of homemade sweets that are addicting! They describe it as a continental breakfast, which set certain expectations for me, and they exceeded them. + Outdoor firepit (during peak season) + Has a pool (during peak season) + Easy parking + Tastefully decorated, B&B style but still a touch of modern Cape Cod + Functional fireplaces! + Safe and trusting community + Great water pressure, modern bathroom - Rooms can be a little small, especially vertically - This is an older home so the hallways can be a bit tight - The floorplan of this house is a bit strange and convoluted - This is a B&B, so don't expect the walls or doors to be soundproof - you can hear your neighbors If you're ever in the area I'd recommend visiting the following places: - Sir Cricket's (fried clam bellies, fried oysters) - The Knack (lobster roll, burgers, shakes) - Cuffy's (Cape Cod merchandise)

Yelp
"If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air" or so the old song goes, try a stay at Ship's Knees Inn in East Orleans, hard by Nauset Beach. It will take you back to a quieter time and you can see a starlit sky at night that will take your breath away down at the beach. The Inn is old and a little bit hokey but what more could you ask for if you want to really experience Cape Cod as it once was. The innkeeper smiles and welcomes you and makes the best coffee every morning to wake you up. Try a stay here off season. The rates are good and the Cape is at its best when all the summer tourists are gone. The Inn has the loveliest Christmas decor and lighting.

Yelp
We just spent two nights at the Ship's Knees Inn. Peter and Denise have gone above and beyond to make the Inn safe and comfortable. They have extra precautions in place from a yummy safe bagged breakfast and lots of social distance seating outside. It is walking distance to the Nauset beach and it wasn't crowded. The pool is open and they have made that area safe as well with hand sanitizer and chairs set up for social distancing. A nice option for dinner is to pick up take out and come back to the Inn and eat it on the patio.

Yelp
We love the ship knees it is a family owned bed-and-breakfast and the owners are so friendly and accommodating yet not obtrusive you can relax inside for breakfast or go outside around the fire pit and then onto the beach it's a short walk walk. Denise always arranges a beautiful breakfast always surprising us with different delicious things to eat . it also has a beautiful clean pool that we very much enjoyed in the afternoons. The rooms are very clean and well appointed and updated. cozy and very much in the New England style. We would highly recommend this inn as a place to stay anytime of the year. We went in October and it was very quiet on the beach!

Yelp
We had a wonderful late summer getaway at Ship's Knees Inn. The Inn was fully booked but we enjoyed a quiet, luxurious weekend. Denise and Peter attend to every detail to be sure guests have all they need for a relaxing vacation. It is a beautiful place in the perfect location. Having vacationed on the Cape before, the hassle of finding beach parking can spoil the fun. Walking to Nauset Beach is a pleasure that sets the tone for a delightful vacation. And late afternoon swims in the lovely pool, all to ourselves, is just the way to round out the day! Thank you! We will be back.

Yelp
Peter and Debbie have a beautiful Inn! Every detail is taken care of and the rooms are clean, beautiful, and embrace all things Cape. The grounds are immaculate with gorgeous flowers, trimmed hedges, and colors everywhere. The beach is .2 miles away. The town center is also within walking distance. Breakfast was delicious and Debbie's white chocolate raspberry scones were to die for! If you are looking to experience the Cape and get away from the hustle and bustle of the every day this is your place - a family run business where the guests are known by name and the stay is one you won't forget! I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Another wonderful visit to the Ship's Knees Inn in East Orleans. Peter and Denise are marvelous hosts, the rooms are comfortable and very tastefully decorated, beds are comfortable, great linens ... pretty much the ideal B&B experience! Oh and the breakfast--creative, beautifully presented and just plain delicious. The grounds are gorgeous and impeccably maintained. Best place to stay in the area, by far!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the Inn for our anniversary. We chose the Inn because of its location (it is only a short walk to Nauset Beach). The owners- Denise and Peter make all of their guests feel right at home. They are two of the happiest and friendliest people I have ever met! Room was clean and grounds very beautiful with flowers and gardens. Shower was a bit small so if you are looking for a bigger bathroom you might want to book one of their larger apartments. Breakfast each morning was amazing and quite a variety of dishes available. It was so nice to sit on the patio enjoying the sound of the morning birds. At night they also have a fire pit for guests to enjoy and they encourage you to bring your own wine or beverages. (Wine glasses and opener made available in your room) Fresh chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon were a bonus to an already incredible experience. We hope to make our stay at the Ship's Knees Inn a yearly tradition!

Yelp
Everything was great but for 1 small detail. If you stay in room 7, and it's so hot that you need to sleep with the air conditioner on, be aware that it's right next to your bed and it will blow directly on you all night, no matter which way you try to switch the vent lever. In my case, I had a hard time sleeping comfortably. Other than that, the inn is clean, charming, affordable. The owners are very nice. The breakfast was pretty good too.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my 4-day vacation at Ships Knees Inn! Beautiful location on a knoll with views of Nauset Beach, just a few minutes walk away. I stayed in a lovely, sunny, well-appointed room that had just been renovated - it sparkled! The inn is spotless, but has a relaxed, rambling quality that makes you feel right at home. The owners, Denise and Peter Butcher, are incredibly friendly, helpful and hospitable. Denise puts out a fantastic breakfast, with many delicious homemade items to choose from. The surrounding area feels like authentic Cape Cod - it's in more of a neighborhood than a tourist-y area. It wasn't quite spring when I was there, but I imagine it looks even more beautiful when everything is in bloom - hydrangeas everywhere. Nearby town has everything you need.

Yelp
Recently had a 4 night stay at the Ship's Knees Inn. The owners were super nice and very helpful with the area. There was a very nice and tasty breakfast spread out every morning. The inn was only a short walk from nausea beach and located near lots of ships and places to eat. We really enjoyed the nice layout of the inn and the comfy beds. Overall we had a great stay!

Yelp
Booked a queen room for a last minute weekend getaway to Cape Cod. The room was small, but well decorated and very clean. The grounds are beautiful, we really enjoyed sitting by the fire pit and out on the patio. It's in a quiet little town, which we enjoyed. The owners are super nice and helpful with suggestions of things to do. Breakfast was included, and was way beyond your typical continental style breakfast! We enjoyed it every morning and saved money not going out to eat! It's also in a great location to visit many different areas of Cape Cod. We will definitely be back next time we visit!

Yelp
Ship Knees Inn is a wonderful place. Had a great stay and the owners are wonderful. Continental breakfast is the best.

Yelp
This is a great place to stay if you want to be close to one of the best beaches on the cape. Clean, cute and comfortable. Fire pit and pool awesome. Nice landscape. Walk to beach. Owner operator really nice. Loved it.

Marissa L.

Yelp
We had the best time staying at the ships knees inn. It is clean, cute, and really makes you feel like you are in another world. The innkeepers were very warm and personable, they remembered our name from the first day and were very helpful in recommending restaurants and places to see in orleans. I would love to stay here again!

Julie R.

Yelp
I really loved our time here. The Ship's Knees is SO cute, uber relaxing, and convenient to the beach. The propane fire pit was a wonderful nighttime treat. They serve the most delicate and adorable continental breakfast ("continental" doesn't really describe it) that's worth getting up for. All in all, if you're looking for a quiet place to relax, this is it.

Chris H.

Yelp
We loved this inn. It is a half mile drive from a large public beach and a reasonable drive to Chatham. It has been updated, but still feels very authentic (it was originally a ship captains home built in the 1850's). The breakfast was outstanding and featured the best scones I have ever had. Highly, highly recommend a stay.

Lee E.

Yelp
This is the most wonderful place to spend time on Cape Cod. Away from the bustle of Rt. 28, and very little commercialization in the area. Short walk to Nauset Beach. The rooms are beautiful. If you can, ask for room 3, with the fireplace.

Yelp
First, let me say that I would return to the Ship's Knees Inn when I am next on vacation on Cape Cod. My family stayed at the inn over the Labor Day weekend. We took up several rooms at the inn. Upon arriving at the inn one is struck by the beauty of the landscape which is full of colour and is well maintained. The staff with whom we had the most interaction were always friendly. Peter and Denise were also welcoming. We chose to take the bedroom that shared a bathroom. Our room, number 7, was probably smaller than the other room (number 6) that shared the bathroom. Room 7 had a slanted ceiling and so if you're a tall person you probably should not take this room. Also, if you don't like small rooms this is not for you. The window air conditioner was close to the head of the bed. It was rather noisy and cold air blew on to you. We avoided using it and kept the other window open for the cool night air. The bathroom also has a slanted ceiling. Once again it would not be suitable for tall people or those not use to small rooms. Housekeeping was for the most part adequate. The carpet was not vacuumed over our five day stay which was disappointing. By day four it was looking pretty dirty. Also, our used wine glasses were not replaced with clean ones. The breakfast was excellent. It is served from 8-9:30am. I wish that it was started earlier, perhaps 7:30. There were plenty of choices. Denise bakes the baked goods--they were delicious. The coffee is available from 6am until 10am. Thereafter one has the use of a Keurig machine. The pool is close by. Towels are available for guests. Nauset Beach is just a few minutes away and so you save the $15 parking fee. Beach towels are available for use, as well as beach chairs. Once again, let me say that we would return to the Ship's Knees Inn but there could be some minor improvements.
