Came here as part of a klook tour experience, honestly its quite alright. There is an entrance fee of 500 yen. Its a small hot spring park. There is a small area where you can soak your leg. You can purchase onsen boiled eggs.

One of the less awe-striking hells of the Beppu area. While you can clearly see the effects and uniqueness of the other hells, this one mainly looks like a steaming lake. But I guess that’s part of it’s charm!

Very small and certainly getting less impressive as this is the fifth out of seven that we visited.
Still, I recommend anyone to buy the 7 in 1 package as they are all different hells/onsen.

created by nature, wonderful :) it is worth visiting the Beppu Center later, restaurants where you can sit with your feet in the hot springs

The lake is absolutely beautiful but I was really disappointed by the fish, they are so beautiful... Can't you make some bigger tanks for them with greens, rocks, places to hide ? It would be so much better! But for now it's really terrible... I honestly felt very sad for them

Back here in 2025 again after 7-8 years. Still the same type of weird fishes in the aquarium.

Dark greenish pond with plant of fish to see of course not in the pond, there's a separate aquarium.

Heartbreaking conditions for fish bred for no reason other than tourist excitement. Many fish were half the size of their dirty, empty tank and multiple looked on the verge of death. Skip this location and just google the hot spring for images.

#6 of 8 Hot Spring Hells
Shiraike Jigoku 白池地獄 is pretty and zen. I love the milky shade of the hot springs and this is just so quiet.
I just don't understand why there are tanks and tanks for huge tropical fish including Piranhas.
There are also some benches set up around the hot springs, great to just relax a little and admire the scenery.

This was probably one of the more scenic jigoku to visit on the jigoku meguri. The water here is milky white and the steam rising up from the surface of the water creates for some nice photo ops. There are even a few camera stands set up around to get in good shots. Like all of the hells, this one also has a strange addition that makes it feel touristy. Shiraike boasts a small collection of Amazonian fish which you're forced to walk through in order to actually get to the hell itself. If that's not your thing, just blaze right on past the piranha and arowana tanks and go straight to the spring.
