It is feeling certainty that it is one of the best centres of Biriyani restaurant in Kolkata city. We visited here many times. Today I took Paneer tandoori kebab. They have also skill in Veg items. Ambience, cleanliness, price and service are welcome. It is understood why since early hours customers are coming into the restaurant.

I recently visited Shiraz Golden Restaurant and found the ambience to be quite good, providing a comfortable dining experience. I tried their special kebab wrapped with cheese, which was outstanding and definitely a must-try. The biryani lived up to the restaurant's reputation, delivering the rich flavors one would expect from such a renowned place. However, despite being considered a premium restaurant, the service was disappointing. I would rate it 1/5, as the staff didn’t even pour water into the glasses unless specifically asked. This level of service was quite a letdown.

Visited Shiraz on a biryani-craving night, and it was an experience with its highs and lows. The restaurant is located in a prime spot, but parking was a challenge—I had to park my two-wheeler on the sidewalk. Once inside, the place exudes an old Arabic vibe, with a menu packed full of Mughlai delicacies. We kept it simple and ordered a Chicken Biryani along with the winter special off-the-menu Mutton Nihari paired with Tandoori Roti. The rotis were generously sized, and the biryani was light yet flavorful, served with the classic Kolkata touch—aloo and egg included. However, the Nihari was a bit of a letdown; while the taste was decent, the mutton pieces could have been more tender. One noticeable downside was the lack of beverage options—no fresh lime soda or similar drinks available. That said, the staff’s behavior was exceptional—cordial, attentive, and very polite, which added a positive note to the visit. Total cost for two came to around ₹800. Might revisit to try something else from their extensive Mughlai menu.

I had high hopes when I walked into Shiraz Golden Restaurant near Ajaynagar, EM Bypass. After all, the name Shiraz carries a legacy in Kolkata’s food scene. But honestly? This visit was nothing short of a disappointment—from the food to the service to the sheer lack of value for money. A Biryani That Had No Business Being Called Biryani Let’s start with the biryani—the dish I was most looking forward to. But the moment I took a bite, I knew something was off. No rich aroma, no depth of flavor, just bland rice with a piece of chicken thrown in. It was so bad that I refused to take my takeaway order, but instead of understanding, the staff insisted I take it because it was already packed—as if that magically made it better. Chicken Kassa That Shouldn’t Have Left the Kitchen If the biryani was forgettable, the chicken kassa was downright bad. The gravy was oily, watery, and lacked any real taste, while the chicken itself was dry and overcooked. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if a small roadside eatery served something miles better. Average Naan, Sky-High Prices The naan was just okay—nothing great, nothing terrible, but when you’re paying premium prices, you expect more than just “okay.” And speaking of prices… ₹1101 for This? Seriously? The bill came to ₹1101, and I couldn’t wrap my head around how they justify it: • ₹704 for two biryanis that lacked even basic flavor. • ₹276 for a subpar chicken dish. At these prices, you expect something delicious, well-cooked, and memorable—not food that makes you wish you’d eaten literally anywhere else. I’ve had far better meals at smaller eateries for half the price. Even Basic Hygiene Was an Afterthought Here’s what really bothered me—they dilute their hand wash liquid with water. I mean, come on. If they’re cutting corners on something as basic as this, what does that say about how they run their kitchen? It’s just not a good look. This was not the Shiraz I expected. Overpriced food, disappointing flavors, indifferent service, and questionable hygiene—that’s not how a restaurant with this kind of reputation should be operating. If they don’t step up their game, smaller, lesser-known eateries will continue to do better—because right now, they already are. Would I go back? Not a chance.

This was my first time in Shiraz. Their Shiraz Special Kebab was just awesome!! I never had a kebab like this, before. This is a must recommend item. But for biriyani, it was not up to the mark. You need any side dish for this biriyani. Biryani was very light and the quantity was sufficient according to the price. The overall experience was good. Thank you 🙏😊

Shiraz Golden Restaurant in Kolkata is a classic spot for authentic Mughlai cuisine, known for its rich flavors and traditional recipes. It's located at Mallikbazaar crossing. The biryani, kebabs and korma dishes are standout items, offering a perfect blend of spices and tender meats. The ambiance is simple and nostalgic, reflecting its long-standing heritage in the city. While the service can be slow during peak hours, the quality of food makes it worth the wait. Ideal for those who appreciate hearty, flavorful meals in a no-frills setting. Been going there for the last two decades and the tastes still stand out. This time we had Chicken Bhuna, chicken bharta, mutton biriyani, tandoori roti and phirni. The service was surprisingly fast. Still one of my favourites in Kolkata.
