知床半島(しれとこはんとう)は、斜里郡斜里町と羅臼町にまたがる、長さ約70km、幅が25kmのオホーツク海の南端に突出した半島です。羅臼岳(1661m)を含む知床連峰の稜線から海岸まで平地がほとんど見られない急峻な半島です。平成17年(2005)世界自然遺産に登録されました。知床半島には約400～500頭のヒグマが生息しており、世界有数の高密度な生息地です。 The Shiretoko Peninsula is a peninsula that juts out at the southern end of the Sea of Okhotsk, approximately 70 km long and 25 km wide.It is a steep peninsula with almost no flat land to be seen from the ridge of the Shiretoko mountain range, including Mt. Rausu (1,661m), to the coast.The Shiretoko Peninsula is home to approximately 400 to 500 brown bears, making it one of the densest habitats in the world.It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2005.

大型観光船おーろらで、知床岬まで行きました。途中ヒグマも2回いました。双眼鏡は必須です。海鳥や鹿も見れました。知床岬までは船でしか行けないそうで、北海道の方も行ったことない方がいるようです。船内は冷房も効いていて快適でした。外にも椅子があって、自由に行き来しながら、双眼鏡で見たり、写真をたくさん撮りました。いい思い出になりました。
