I Saw Bears, Sperm Whales, and Red-crowned Cranes in Some of Japan’s Most Beautiful National Parks

"At the visitor center we attended a ranger-led bear-safety presentation and watched a required video before attempting the Goko Lakes Trail, and the center served as the hub where we learned the trail had been closed the previous day for bear activity." - Kristen Pope

A good place to stop by and meet the super friendly staff there. The place is full of information and explore the binoculars provided at level two. The place is made up of wood and looks so good. Enjoy the scenery from the level two deck and read the information provided. Good place to take pics and visit toilet.

Gorgeous place with views of the mountains and got to walk to see the geyser. We saw foxes and deers, and got to chat with a ranger who gave us helpful advice on where to go with the shiretoko pass being closed. The center is clean, warm and has lots of good information on the peninsula and their conservation efforts.

This is a nice visitor center on a more remote side of Shiretoko. There's information about the area and display of the region's animals. There's also an active geyser (that comes on not that often) right behind the center with a short walk.

It's a very informative exhibit. A complete killer whale skeleton is displayed in the center. Furthermore, the 26-minute film about Shiretoko National Park is quite interesting, showcasing the wildlife, coast, and mountains throughout the four seasons.

Pretty cool place to learn about the animals that inhabit the national park, their life cycles and how they affect each other and humans.

A nice visitor center that also serves as a small museum where visitors can learn about thr biodiversity and also history of the region.

Shiretoko National Park Visitor Center. There is a geyser 5 minutes away. I didn't see any bears.

The visitor centre is beautiful, with a whale skeleton and quite a number of taxidermies and information. The geyser on the other hand.. It's a short walk from the visitor centre. I believe the maximum height was 8m, but the one we saw was probably 1.2 m at max. There is a schedule of the eruptions posted in the visitor centre for your reference.
