Shiroiya Hotel (Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Among the notable recent additions to Maebashi is the art-focused Shiroiya Hotel, housed in a 1970s-era concrete building redesigned by the architect Sou Fujimoto. The project is the brainchild of another noted creative — local Hitoshi Tanaka, founder of the Japanese eyewear brand JINS — who conceived of the place as a “living room for the city” to be enjoyed by guests and residents alike. The main tower’s facade features a mural by American artist Lawrence Weiner, while Leandro Erlich’s striking “Lighting Pipes” installation is exhibited in the four-story atrium. The newly built green tower, a whimsical structure inspired by the topography of the nearby mountains, is an artwork in itself." - Tablet Hotels

Shiroiya Hotel is one of the most unique places I’ve ever stayed. The design is super cool—art everywhere, from the rooms to the hallways, and every corner feels like a mini gallery. The mix of old and modern architecture is done so well. I stayed in one of the art rooms and it was both cozy and inspiring. Big bonus: there’s a Blue Bottle Coffee right inside the hotel, perfect for slow mornings or an afternoon pick-me-up. The staff were friendly, the sauna was great, and the location made it easy to explore Maebashi. Definitely worth a visit if you’re into design, art, and good coffee.

One of the coolest design hotels I have ever stayed in. The food is fantastic, service is excellent. Every room is designed by another famous designer/architect. The hotel is located in an up and coming area, many new cafes, shops and restaurants have just started in the vicinity.

Stunning hotel, incredibly helpful and beautiful staff and the most beautiful luxurious hotel . Just wow. Words can't explain how much of a jewel this hotel is. Highly recommended you visit and enjoy the " open kitchen" dinner, stunning beyond words, a sensory overload of visual and taste delights with stunning fresh ingredients and flavours and the best team ever working to " take charge of your happiness" in every possible way. They provided a full gluten free menu which was equally spectacular. Could not be happier with how we well were treated...felt like royalty

The main building inside is beautiful. On a sunny day, the light creates artistic beautiful scenery. Such well designed space. Our room was very comfortable - in modern style. Enjoyed free drinks (apple juice and beer) and mini pastry. I wish there were spa facilities and gym. They have a few saunas but it was extra charge.

Utterly beautiful urban regeneration project - an old building turned into an art hotel by famous Japanese architect su fujimoto. Incredible staff, unbelievably delicious dinner, exquisite art, everyone was friendly, and then free drinks to top all that off. For us it extended the budget, but was totally worth the money. Highly recommend to all.

Visually great. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, the staff was very friendly and it was delicious. ||The room was interesting, I felt like sleeping in a wooden box. We could see the lobby from the room. The lighting pipes change color in the evening, it is pretty. ||There was art tastefully decorated in the lobby and a lot of plants.||We used the private sauna. You have to walk outside the hotel to get there but once inside, they have everything ready for you (towels, amenities, showers, mirrors, locker room, aroma oils, water bottles). ||The breakfast was healthy and tasty too !||There is not a lot to do around the hotel but if you are interested enough in this hotel I think it’s worth the trip !

One of our best experience in Japan.. apart from the exquisite architecture we enjoyed so much the diner in the restaurant: very well curated food excellently prepared. Thanks for this luxury treat. We’ll be back!

The hotel is a few bus stops away from Maebashi train station so it is not very accessible. Staff can speak a bit of English but my friend was able to speak conversational Japanese so communication was not a problem. The staff inform us that there is hotel tour and we joined the tour led by hotel staff. Unfortunately, tour is in Japanese so if you cannot understand the language, you would not be able to know what info is shared. The room is very tastefully decorated and size of room is quite comfortable. Given the price of about ¥48000 a night, I think this is the basic it can deliver. We didn’t know there were private sauna available as staff did not mention when we check in. In the end we didn’t have time to go for it, especially since it is not available through the day but only at specific periods. This is a very pretty hotel that offers many spots for great photos but I do find it pricey considering the overall experience of stay was ok but nothing particularly impressive.
