The hotel is situated within the City Palace grounds. We loved the location of this hotel - it was so quiet and removed from city but such a short walk brought us to the waterfront, old city and beyond. We walked everywhere and never needed a tuk tuk. Breakfast was incredible and the staff were more than hospitable. The weather did not cooperate as we had three days of rain so sadly could not use the beautiful pool or outdoor spaces. We enjoyed afternoon coffee and cake during a down pour in one of the stunning common rooms. The hotel rooms are a bit dated but classic but the staff make staying here wonderful. Next time we may go for the suites overlooking the pool and lake.

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights. We were in the Royal Suite, lake side, Room 05. Apparently, there was a scene filmed in this room in the James Bond, Octopussy movie. The room is a very large suite and quite spacious, nicely appointed. We felt like royalty there. It’s a serene setting and they play instrumental sitar like music on the grounds. The pool area, just outside our room is a lovely place to sit. The restaurant food is excellent with a great selection for all meals. The staff is outstanding, so polite and helpful and friendly. I highly recommend staying within the palace grounds while in Udaipur. The location is very convenient to the City Palace Museum, street handicraft shops and where the boats are located to cruise Lake Pichola. It’s a very scenic area. I would definitely stay here again.

The arrival at this beautiful palace hotel is spectacular as you enter the magnificent gates and ascend the hill. It's glorious!|But that is as good as it gets unfortunately. |The hotel is in desperate need of a revamp. The rooms, spacious as they may be, are tired and dated and several things simply don't work in the room. |The daily service is below par - small things for a 5 star hotel like the fruit and chocolates were nearly inedible.|That said the staff are wonderful and try and made the experience as good as it could be despite the declining facilities|After taxes, paying nearly $400 a night this does not represent fair value

The setting, poolside in a beautiful and tastefully floodlit courtyard, is extraordinary, really beautiful. The service was delightful - very well judged, helpful and attentive - our thanks to Kuldip. And the food was delicious. We were especially bowled over by the desserts - especially the fig and walnut dish whose name I failed to register. Lovely evening.

This is the most wonderful hotel. It is incredibly beautiful and full of the charms and beauty of Royal Rajasthan. The staff are all very helpful and charming. If you like everything brand new this is not for you but if you like beauty and unique character in an unforgettable setting you really beat this hotel.

Grand old hotel, glorious entrance as you enter the gates and ascend the hill. Unfortunately that is a good as it gets. The rooms are in desperate need of a revamp - they old and tired and there are things in the room that are broken or don't work. The staff do their best to make up for the dated facilities

The staff service is very good. They are very responsive, helpful and always ready to hear our requests. But hotel not worth the price. Does not seem like a 5 star property at all. Actual look of the hotel is different from the photos. This seems like a old property. As soon as a we entered the room, there was a strong smell of some cheap room spray. It was so allergic. I have never come across a 5 star hotel using such strong sprays. The picture of the hotel seems very big, but that is not the case here. I am highly disappointed in my first trip to Udaipur with my family. However they changed our room and gave another room which was not sprayed. The food is too expensive and the restaurant is not too big. Per person meal : Rs. 2,200 . But the breakfast which is included in the room tariff is very good

Shiv niwas palace which is Just adjacent to city palace maintained by royalty .. Has a great vibe .. it's amazing experience to stay over here.. some issues like- food options are limited they don't entertain outside food .. we didn't have navaratri thali option.. They didn't let us have dal bhati which was served at city palace.. some stupid house rules.. Morning breakfast was good.. Ambience and amenities were good.. View from the rooms was amazing.. We enjoyed swimming in the marble pool..
