Always drink the local sake ... A beautifully preserved Japanese restaurant in Matsumoto ... good food, awesome drink list ... Smoking room ... and vintage yet modern toilet ... the owner is a collector ... lots of unique hidden rooms ...

The ambience and service was excellent. I was surprised by how many staff there were. Prices are on the high side but the food was great. We found the yakitori lacking and a bit salty but the horse sashimi, bee larvae, soba and chicken were top notch. We did regret not ordering the oden though.

One of the highlights so far during our stay in Japan. The staff were the highlight - they were attentive and so welcoming. We were treated to a number of small dishes by the lovely matriarch - some I'll admit we're interesting at first! Food was excellent. It felt like a locals restaurant, so we sat up at the counter and watched the magic at work. Highly recommend!

Very near Matsumoto castle. Food was great - I had the Oden (as another reviewer has said, delicate and tasty broth), the Basashi (first time with horse meat, it was tender), and soba (very nice). They had great service with a number of wait staff on standby. Just a bit expensive though.

Very cool historic restaurant with unique furnishing serving local specialty dishes, including the ayu fish that I was seeking. Reservations likely recommended for dinner however we walked in for lunch and they were happy to serve us at the counter.

The very best soba noodles I have ever tried!! Oden was good too. Yakitori dish included 5 different parts of chicken meat but the sauce was a bit too heavy to my taste. Service was excellent, most of them speak simple English. They had menu in English but choices of food was only 1/3 of the original menu. Will definitely return for the soba!

Special limited English menu so if you can down load their QR code you will get the Japanese menu and use google translate for more dishes. The food is good. Enjoyed my ebi tempuradon. Chicken yakitori is quite too chewy. But the Hamaji is brilliant. The meal is made special by the most helpful and attentive staff. Cant takw photo of the ambiance but can take photo of the dishes. Highly recommend by the locals and understandably why.
