Sri Lanka Is Drawing Visitors After Years of Turmoil — Here's How to Visit

"A Pedlar Street cafe and gallery where visitors can shop for authentic beeralu lace made on a traditional bobbin device; the production setup is visible at the counter, connecting shoppers directly with a centuries-old craft tradition." - Prasad Ramamurthy Prasad Ramamurthy Prasad Ramamurthy is a former Condé Nast Traveller, India editor with over two decades of reporting experience. Nice shop with a good variety of souvenirs. The salespeople were not as pushy as in other places in Galle. But be sure to check your receipt. We realized after we left that we’d been charged for 1850LKR in items we didn’t buy! We immediately returned and they gave us a refund, but it sure seemed like they intentionally added things to our receipt and hoped we wouldn’t notice.

This is a wonderful treasure trove of delights with lots of reasonably priced handmade goods. At the back of the shop there is also a delightful cafe serving delicious homemade food. We enjoyed a private lunch upstairs on the terrace overlooking the lush plants. Lovely service from the friendly staff too! Highly recommended if you want an authentic Sri Lankan experience away from the crowds.

Amazing shop and restaurant tucked away from the crowds in the Fort. My wife and I enjoyed a delicious homemade lunch cooked to suit our dietary requirements. We recommend sitting upstairs on the terrace overlooking the lush garden. We bought most of our gifts to take home from the shop as they had unique goods at reasonable prices compared to other shops in the area. The staff will welcome you and leave you to shop and eat in peace. Highly recommend stopping here.

Great stuff to find inside here. Only the service staff are quite rude and the real stories behind the amazing work on sale is lost in the process.

Great shop with lots of wonderful treasures for memento's and gifts. Each time we went in we found more new amazing stuff.
