On the Grid : Shoot the Hooch

"Unclaimed summer weekends mean it's time to 'shoot the hooch'. Shoot The Hooch (the facility) is located in Azalea Park, directly on the Chattahoochee River Landing. Affectionately coined, 'shooting the hooch' simply means exploring the Chattahoochee by your choice of vehicle (tube, canoe, kayak, paddle board, or group raft). Grab a group of friends and get to it." - Nimble. Design Co.

Booked tubing in advance just to drive an hour and get there for them to say they can’t put us on tubes because the water was high. They should’ve called or emailed me! Wasted our time and the lady didn’t even care.

Efficient, friendly, helpful service, high quality equipment, beautiful river, peaceful environment. We rented a 2 person canoe for 1 hr staring at 5pm and were on the river with several rowing crews training. It was fun and relaxing and a great value. Definitely recommended! Jeff was super helpful and the owner Bill was kind and has a passion for providing good experiences for his customers.

Well I made the reservations online for me and a out of towner friend to go tubing. I was scheduled for 11am, but did get a call that the flow rate was high for that day. However, Barbera called back to say the flow rate of the river had changed and to come as soon as possible. It was thoughful that she called people as soon as she found out we could stll go tubing the same day. The experience was very relaxing and serene. Unfortunately, my buddys tube lost about 30/40 percent of air. We weren't able to continue down the river to our destination pick up location. We took our tubes and followed directions of a local lady to where we thought was the main entance. Unfortunately, it was not and when I finally looked at my gps, we were lost 48 minutes away. I called Barbera and she did try to help us, but we were way off the beaten path. The lady who gave us the directions appeared and actually became our Angel for the day. She helped us get back to the main entrance. God bless her. Once we got back, I talked to Barbera and told her, we were ok. Barbera made a huge difference that day to ensure I was ok as a customer and happy. I will defintely come back again and recommend this place to ALL OF ATLANTA. ALL 7 MILLION PEOPLE, PLEASE COME HERE AND ENJOY.

We had a great time. Took a little while to get on the shuttle. It was a little chaotic with boarding. Got to the upper side and no floats were inflated, so had to wait again. So for those reasons plus the cost (a little expensive for what you get). If you float more than once you are better off to by your own floats and drop in yourself.

Our family has been here on a few different occasions and we love it! What a great place to rent equipment with easy, safe access to the Chattahoochee river. The rental prices are reasonable for the experience and time limits on the river. Shoot the Hooch offers a drop off service up-river if you don’t want to paddle up stream. We’ve rented flat bottom canoes every time; both easy to paddle and tons of fun for my little guys. The employees fit each of us with life vests before we head out. The Chattahoochee is such a beautiful river to explore, and for a family who doesn’t have our own personal equipment, Shoot The Hooch is a gem of a find. The facility is located next to ample parking, has snacks for purchase and gives free ice pops to your kids when you come back off the river. As an aside: I’ve read a number of negative comments about the river being ‘dangerous’ and ‘dirty’. Well, all I can say is that it’s a RIVER! Snapping turtles and snakes do exist around here and it’s no surprise that the Chattahoochee is THEIR habitat. We consider ourselves lucky when we get to see a glimpse of nature in nature. If we see animals, we look but don’t touch. Simple as that. All in all, we like this place a lot and intend to return often.

I have experienced cancellations due to water flow/bacteria issue but they operate around the park rules and it is hassle free to reschedule — they get back to me for those queries quickly. I can understand this might be annoying for people who are visiting. The kayaking experience was pretty good. Every staff I encountered were very nice and professional, and they helped me retrieve a phone which was accidentally dropped and gone with the current. I want to thank the couple whom I do not know the names for finding the phone in water when we gave up and the staffs who quickly reached us to get it. Thank you and God bless you.

Not a bad way to spend the day. Quite a few people on the river during the summer in either kayaks or floats. We went kayaking and the water isn't that deep so if you fall over it is okay. It was a nice, very relaxing, and different experience. The staff was helpful and polite and not too strict on timing when renting a kayak.

Staff was wonderful and our driver was friendly and funny (dad jokes), lol. We floated for exactly 2 hours. Roughness or calmness of water depends on the water levels, but I think getting hung up against rocks is the norm. Warning: in summer months bring a large hat or you will FRY!
