How would I summarize Shouk in one word that I know will speak to Parisians and foreigners alike? YUM.
The Moroccan bread dish with all the accoutrements is an absolute MUST do. The bread is fluffy and delicious, rolled with pistachio, and drizzled with a bit of honey, served with labneh (SO GOOD), anchovies, za'atar, olives, and some peppers. I've not had a dish like this elsewhere and I've been craving it ever since!
We also ordered the octopus skewer over greens - this was also very good though the octopus could have been a BIT less chewy and seasoned/marinated a BIT more. The greens were SO good though!
Finally, we had the kibbeh nayyeh which is essentially lamb tartare. I've had this dish many times in different restaurants but this one is my absolute favorite. It's topped with some crunchy goodness that I can't explain as well as an egg yolk.
The only thing you should be aware of is that if you want to have an appetizer first, THEN your entrees, make sure to be clear about it. We ordered everything together and it came all at once.
English-speaking? Kind of. The server knew some English and had to check with the bartender on a few things. Either way, he spoke more English than I speak French so kudos to him! He was also very sweet.
