"Set among the rolling hills of the Shenandoah Valley, with views out toward the Blue Ridge Mountains, this cottage occupies the former wash house of a working orchard, and it’s filled with unique details that nod to its past: original farm lamps, orchard ladders, reclaimed wood countertops, and laundry-themed decor, like a coffee bar made from an antique ironing board. Guests are invited to gather fresh flowers, vegetables, and herbs from the gardens outside, or head to the orchard, a few steps away, for peaches and apples when they’re in season. (The hosts include their favorite apple pie recipe in the kitchen.) Also part of the 60-acre, second-generation Showalter’s Orchard is a hard cider tasting room." - Lyndsey Matthews, Nicholas DeRenzo

My now wife and I had our Nov 2024 wedding at Showalter's Greenhouse. Showalter’s was one of two venues on our short list, and we’re very glad we decided to go with them. We wanted a mountain view during the ceremony and the terrace was absolutely perfect. The greenhouse is gorgeous and looks amazing both in person and in photographs and was the perfect backdrop. We served cider and apple cider donuts and our guests loved both. It felt so unique and special! Working with everyone at the venue was incredibly easy, and they were so kind and welcoming to us and felt like they really wanted to make sure our day went well. We booked all of the AirBnBs on the property and would definitely recommend doing so. The “bridal” suite off of the Greenhouse was great for staging and getting a moment away during the wedding, having the extra space for actually getting ready was a very good choice (especially with larger wedding parties and lots of people doing hair and makeup). We also stayed in one of the AirBnBs the night before and afterwards, and being on the property was incredibly convenient as hotels in Harrisonburg are a bit of a hike. The AirBnBs were cute and worked great for our purposes! We stayed in one of the AirBnBs through to the Monday after our Saturday wedding which was great and made it so that we didn’t have to rush getting everything out the morning after the wedding. Very friendly staff, amazing mountain views, and phenomenal apple cider donuts! We had a blast here and can’t wait to come again. (& there was a beautiful dog there too!)

My sister and I visited the Cidery May 2024. So good. We are very picky on our ciders and liked most of them. We ended up purchasing 4 bottles. The ciders were crisp and clean. Tasting of apples, not carbonation. Well balanced. Bartender was very helpful. The tasting room was clean, nice, airy. The grounds were beautiful. Amazing views. Would definitely recommend.

Awesome apple picking experience! Wonderful hosts both in the store and at the cider tasting room. Cider tastings were delicious, and Julie's accurate description of each cider was spot on!!!! Such beautiful mountain valley views, especially in the fall!!

Great peach and apple picking! The cider is also tasty. Clean restrooms. It's worth stopping at if you are in the area!

Google
I really enjoyed this place and think it can work for kids and adults. The kids can have a blast picking apples while adults can have a great time relaxing and chatting it up. No matter what, this fits everyone. While there you have to try the cider and apple pumpkin donuts. So good.

Wonderful place! We stayed in the Orchard Oasis for our 5th wedding anniversary and “perfect” is an understatement. Such a gorgeous spot tucked away in apple tree rows. Private and secluded but with amenities that make you feel like you’re in a boutique hotel. I can’t say enough great things! Jenny at the tasting room was wonderful and welcoming and the hard ciders were delicious. “Off The Press” was my personal favorite and I can’t wait to drink the cans when we get home. Already looking forward to planning our next getaway to this relaxing place!

We enjoyed our afternoon here. Very busy this weekend. The donuts were extremely yummy. A large group of us hung out for several hours. The shop has hot toddy mixes, jams, apple butter, soap, apples, tee shirts, and various other items. You can buy apples pre picked OR walk the orchard and pick your own. 🍎🍏🍎 The views are spectacular!! Another plus, you can bring your dog...on a leash, of course. Today there was also a wedding that took place on the property. 🥂

Yelp
So happy we stopped by! Enjoyed the cider tasting which was a great deal at $8 for 5 big pours of your choice of cider. The green house was so cute to sit around in while we enjoyed the drinks. The food was delicious - don't miss out on the apple cider donuts or the pretzel bites with cider cheese (the cheese is amazing). The staff was very friendly and helpful with cider recommendations. We'll be back!

Yelp
Waited in parking lot for 30 minutes for them to open. Called after they were supposed to be open to be told no they are closed until 1/4/25. Website shows open with no information that they are closed neither does the front of their store. Poor customer service!

Yelp
Stopped to sample ciders. Turned into a great afternoon meeting new people. Jennie is a dream employee! Made it informative, personal and fun! Great ciders as well. Need a few more snacks, but otherwise this is a lovely place to spend some time!

Yelp
My friends and I are obsessed with this place!! We've been to a lot of orchards in Virginia and this might be our favorite. Here's why. 1) The pick your own process was easy. You actually pay by the size of the bag, so all you need to do is visit the little tent outside the shop, select your bag size, and get to picking. I think there were three options for $10, $15, and $20. We selected the $20 and filled it with more than 40 delicious apples (some smaller than others). 2) THE APPLE CIDER DONUTS. These were baked, not fried, and for some reason they were the best cider donuts any of us had ever tried, and they didn't leave us feeling overly greasy or sick. You could taste the actual cider flavor and they were super moist. We bought 6 and then had to go back for another dozen. 3) The on-site cidery. We sampled the regular cider, sparkling cider, and hard cider, and were especially own away by the sparkling. They also had cider SLUSHIES which were not too sweet - we had 2 :). 4) The orchard itself was beautiful and bountiful. We picked jonagold and golden delicious. The trees were full of apples and it never felt too crowded. Bonus points for the orchard dogs running around and the plentiful seating options. I know the orchard also has on site lodging through Airbnb - an overnight trip here seems super magical!

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised with this orchard. It's a bit off the beaten path but worth it. They were so friendly and took great care of us in loading up our apples from the variety they had picked. 1/2 bushel mark as $14 which seemed extremely reasonable for the large amount we got. They also have apple cider donuts, caramel/candy apples and some other things to buy. There is also a Cidery here if you want to sit and take in the views with a beverage. Excited to try the apples!!

Yelp
What a great place for a wedding. The ambiance is amazing. The caterers had such a lovely meal.

Mel S.

Yelp
An easy 5 star place. Finally a orchard that doesn't charge per person to pick. A big bag to pick was only $20. My 5 person family picked a bag of peaches and a bag of apples for $40. Worth it. The biggest peaches I have ever seen and they were delicious. The donuts cider is fresh, the beverages properly chilled and there is ample seating for hanging out. Big fan and will be back when we are in the area.

Becca S.

Yelp
Such a fun way to spend a couple of hours! Pick your own apples had so many apples left. Apple cider donuts were the bomb, and you can sit and take in the view while you eat and taste their hard ciders or apple cider slushees. Get here before it gets cold and you miss out on the gorgeous leaves!!!

Shannon S.

Yelp
Nice place for a family stop. The ciders are light and wine-like. Apple and peach picking was great and the views are outstanding. Helpful and friendly staff. A little pricey, but nothing offensive.

Yelp
I loved going with my girlfriends to pick apples. The staff were nice and helpful, they answered all out questions and even allowed up to taste apples, apple cider and donut before we purchased them. I am a little but disappointed they didn't have my favorite apple which is Granny Smith. I enjoyed picking apples and the pink lady apple was good, that's second favorite apple now. I recommend this place and will go back. I love the view

Yelp
My fiancé and I went to Showalter's for the weekend when we were in town. The woman pouring our flights was super nice and made the experience really enjoyable for us, even though she was busy with a ton of other customers. The views were gorgeous and there were a ton of different places we were able to sit at depending on the view we wanted. It was a little cold that weekend so the greenhouse was perfect to keep the cold wind off while letting us enjoy the bright sun. The flight of hard ciders we got tasted delicious and were served in really nice and sturdy glass tasters. We ended up buying 2 bottles of their peach so we could share with my fiancé's parents when they visit for the holidays! We'd definitely go back again.

Yelp
Let me start by saying the greenhouse and view are absolutely lovely. However, a winter wedding is a bit chilly inside the greenhouse. There are many obstacles to be prepared for: 1. No bar sink (bring a bucket) 2. Virtually no kitchen access. They told us we would have the kitchen starting at rehearsal dinner the night before, but the venue is an apple orchard gift shop first and wedding venue second. They made donuts for their store up until 1:30 pm for a 430pm wedding. We had to fight to get that time. So really, it's more of a just cake reception place unless you hire a food truck. 3. Wear warm clothing in the winter....not sure about the air conditioning. 4. Bring trashcans. We were provided one. 5. Don't wear shoes with thin heels. The spaces in the floor boards will be problematic. 6. No ice machine. 7. No food warmer...was told they had one but it's actually a steamer that we didn't have access to anyway....until it was too late....we used yeti coolers to keep the food warm....which worked. Don't get me wrong...our wedding was beautiful and near perfect, but because our caterers had a "we can do this " attitude. Side note: the donut maker at the venue was very rude to the wedding caterers and do you really want to eat a donut that came from hateful hands?

Yelp
What a wonderful experience . Drove in to a spectacular panorama of Apple orchards, valley and a mountain range. The hostess was gracious and the samplings of ciders were just to our taste. Great atmosphere!!!!

Yelp
This apple orchard is truly magnificent. The apples are amazing and so sweet. The view is so beautiful. The mulled cider is delish.

Yelp
Beautiful, family-owned & run Orchard that has apple picking, cider tasting, fresh apple donuts, and a beautiful "Greenhouse" sitting area with one of the best views in the area. This is a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon! The family is so friendly it's hard not to come back time and time again. I would highly recommend!

Taylor W.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous and the family who runs it is so sweet! The doughnuts and cider are amazing as well. As a college student, it was amazing to drive only about 30 minutes from JMU to have a nice weekend outing.

Robert C.

Yelp
The establishment has a nice collection of hard ciders to pick from. You can purchase their cider products (depending on which one's they're allowed by the state to bottle and label them) either as pre-labled (wine) bottle type products, or they have a nice selection of ciders on tap, in which they're able to put a number of their non-labled ciders into a one gallon glass growler to take home with you. (Once opened they last between 7-10 days). The bottles are an additional $5, but simply bring it back at a later date, and they'll exchange it for you with a newly cleaned bottle, when you purchase another tap cider to go, and thus saving you the $5 growler bottle cost as well. During the summer season they also sell peach icecream by the bowl, and as with most establishments that carry wine and cider products, they have an assortment of jams and other items for sale in their upstairs store. So if you like ciders as well as the enjoyment of wines, do give them a try at your earliest convenience. As always, call ahead of time and find our their hours of operations and which days they'll be opened. ÷[ Rob Conway ]÷

Yelp
We stopped on here during a visit to see family in the area. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, greeting us immediately. I partook of the hard cider sampling, I did the $5 option so I could try their ice-style cider, similar to an ice wine. Their most-dry variety was my favorite, my only regret was that I was carrying on my luggage, and didn't have my wine case with me to take a bottle back to Nevada! The shop was cute, they had many of their apples available for those who didn't want to pick their own. They also had honey, and lots of others food items. I didn't get one since I did the hard cider tasting, but they sold cider slishies for only $3 and hot cider which I believe was just $1. For $5 they had some delicious looking caramel apples - I got the apple pie flavor with white chocolate and brown sugar, and it was the best caramel apple I have ever had!! They had a chalkboard with some fun events posted, and if I lived here I would definitely come back regularly. They had a greenhouse, that I did not go to, but my in-laws said they purchased their hanging baskets and tomato plants from, and we're really impressed. Great place to visit on a beautiful fall afternoon in the Shenandoah Valley.

Yelp
It was between seasons, so there wasn't any produce available, but we still had a great time. The cider tasting was delicious and very interesting. Everyone was very friendly and the orchard is beautiful. We'll have to go back when it's apple season!

HB S.

Yelp
I have visited several self-pick orchards In Virginia and this is by far my favorite! I loved the beautiful views of the valley from the orchard. They have a great setup with most of the apple varieties right behind the farmers market. We were only able to pick one type of apple this trip but they had several other varietals for sale in the farmers market which was great for us! The farm dogs and staff were very friendly - overall a great family activity! We also took part in the hard cider tasting. We were very impressed with the number of different hard ciders that the orchard was making from all of their own apples. For $5 we tried around 8 ciders and found 3 we had to buy! The hard cider is easy on the wallet with most bottles priced between $10-20 (unlike some orchards/hard cider places in VA). The real treasure was the port style cider which was bursting with tropical fruit flavors and very unique!

Amanda D.

Yelp
Very nice little orchard. Picked our own apples. Had fantastic donuts that were larger than most with a great crunch on the outside but so soft inside. Cider was good. Beautiful views!

Valerie L.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds, the best apples and apple cider cinnamon donuts around! Ample parking, friendly staff.

Pam L.

Yelp
While staying at Massanutten Resort I found this place on the web and headed there to pick apples. The service was great and I was able sample hard cider and sweet apple cider. I purchased everything I sampled!! If you are in the Shenandoah Valley or JMU area, you must stop by!

Ethan Z.

Yelp
I've loved Showalter's Apple cider since I was a kid. Visiting the orchard with the family was great. The kids loved picking apples, and the apples were delicious. Staff was friendly, and of course the cider (both regular and hard) was amazing. We're happy we live close so we can keep going back!

Jena B.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to go apple picking. Everyone is super nice, the apples are delicious, and you can get tons of them for super reasonable prices! Plus it's fun! They have cider tasting and a little shop as well. They do an apple harvest festival thing every year that's pretty great, where a bunch of vendors and food trucks set up there. It's crowded during that but still not bad at all in the orchards and well worth going!

Yvette K.

Yelp
Beautiful scenery and views so bring your camera! We didn't pick our own apples but bought some inside. I bought Jonathan apples which I used for a pie and they were delicious. Also bought cider - both reasonably priced. Huge mums for only $6 and pumpkins were cheap compared to most places. Inside they have local honey and spices and baking mixes. There is also a bar where you can get a glass of hard cider but we didn't try that. Parking and walking on sight gravelly hill which is somethIng to consider if you have trouble getting around.

Mary L.

Yelp
I purchased a bushel of what was supposed to be a mix of large apples. The large apples cost more. All the apples were very small except the golden delicious. I bought the already picked apples and I think they had been picked up off the ground. After a couple of weeks, over a quarter of the apples were rotten and unuseable. I bought the apples to make applesauce and I had to peel every one because even the "good" ones had brown spots under the skin. I usually don't peel the apples and run the apple sauce through a sieve. I have grocery store apples which I have had for at least a month longer than the "fresh" ones I bought at Showalters. All the apples were stored the same way. None of the grocery store apples have any rotten spots on them. I have been buying apples and making applesauce for 20 years and have never had such a horrible batch. I wouldn't suggest going there. If you do, pick your apples so you know where they came from.

Alex R.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were staying in Harrisonburg for the weekend so I googled some nearby attractions, and thought a cidery sounded more interesting than a winery. The drive was very scenic and once we got there we decided to do the full tasting menu. Sarah was very knowledgeable about everything from the brewing process to the history of cider- I had no idea cider could be so interesting! Plus, it was all delicious! We left with hald a dozen bottels and will be ordering more. The whole experience was fun and different, and a great way to spend one of the first warmer days after this freezing winter. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, and like they recommend, it's a perfect spot for a picnic lunch!
