Shri Laxmi Narayan Temple, popularly known as Birla Mandir, is a serene and architecturally splendid Hindu temple located in New Delhi. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Narayan) and Goddess Lakshmi, the temple was constructed between 1933 and 1939 by the Birla family and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi, who insisted it be open to people of all castes and faiths. The temple showcases the Nagara style of Hindu temple architecture, featuring red sandstone and white marble. Its main shikhara (tower) rises to about 160 feet, and the interiors are adorned with intricate carvings and fresco paintings. Materials like Kota stone from Makarana, Agra, Jaisalmer, and Kota were used in its construction.
