The Legend of Queen Ganesh Kunwar
The temple's unique status stems from a 16th-century vow by Queen Ganesh Kunwar:
The Challenge: Her husband, King Madhukar Shah, challenged her to bring Lord Ram from Ayodhya to Orchha.
The Condition: Lord Ram agreed to come on three conditions: he would travel only during the Pushya Nakshatra, he would be the King of Orchha, and once he sat down, he would not move.
The Mistake: Upon returning, the Queen placed the idol in her palace kitchen for the night. The next morning, the idol refused to move to the magnificent Chaturbhuj Temple built across the street. Thus, the palace became his permanent temple.
