The architecture is stunning, the beautiful dome, intricate tilework, and elegant arches remind you of the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Multan. The fragrance of rose petals and incense in the air adds to the serene atmosphere, making the whole experience deeply soothing. Whether you’re coming for spiritual reasons or simply to explore Multan’s history, this shrine offers something for everyone, a rare sense of peace that stays with you long after you’ve left. Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya was one of the greatest Sufi saints of the subcontinent, and visiting his resting place feels like a deeply humbling and meaningful experience. Visited the Tomb of Baha-ud-Din Zakariya in Multan, and it was a peaceful experience. The architecture is beautiful, especially the large dome that stands out from a distance. There’s a calm feeling inside the shrine that makes you slow down and reflect. It’s well maintained, and you can really sense the history of the place. If you’re in Multan, this is definitely a place worth visiting at least once.

He was a Muslim scholar, saint, and poet who is revered across the subcontinent. Here are the key details about him: The Saint and His Order * Sufi Order: He is credited with establishing the Suhrawardiyya Sufi order of Baghdad in medieval South Asia. This order became one of the most influential spiritual movements in the region. * Title: He is known by the title Baha-ul-Haq (Light of the Truth) and also as Ghous-ul-Aalamin. * Center: He finally settled in the city of Multan (in modern-day Pakistan) in 1222, turning it into a major center of Islamic learning and Sufism, sometimes referred to as the "Baghdad of the East." * Relationship with Rulers: Unlike some other Sufi saints (like the early Chishtis), Bahauddin Zakariya maintained close relations with the state and rulers, including the Delhi Sultans. Includes Qawwali, charity, lectures, and spiritual gatherings. Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya was a leading figure of the Suhrawardiyya Sufi order. Sheikh ul Islam Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya Suhrawardi was a great Sufi saint of the Indian subcontinent and a prominent leader of the Suhrawardi Sufi order. He was born on 27th Ramadan 566 AH (17th June 1171 CE) in Kot Karor, Layyah (present-day Pakistan). His real name was Zakariya, his kunya was Abu Muhammad, and he was famously known by the title Bahauddin. His father’s name was Sheikh Muhammad Ghaus and his mother’s name was Fatima Bibi. His ancestors belonged to the Quraish tribe, who migrated from Makkah to Khwarazm and later settled in Kot Karor. He memorized the Holy Qur’an and travelled to Bukhara, Khorasan, Makkah, Madinah, Bayt al-Maqdis, and Baghdad in pursuit of advanced religious knowledge. In Baghdad, he pledged allegiance (bai‘ah) to Hazrat Sheikh Shahabuddin Umar Suhrawardi. On the instructions of his spiritual guide, he settled in Multan, where he began teaching Islam, spreading spiritual knowledge, and guiding people. Thousands of people embraced Islam through him. He passed away on 7th Safar 661 AH (21st December 1261 CE) in Multan, where his shrine is located at Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh, a site visited by devotees from far and wide.

During our recent trip to Multan, Pakistan, we had the incredible opportunity to visit two remarkable shrines, the Shrine of Hazrat Bahauddin Zikria Multani and the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam. These sacred sites hold immense significance for both the locals and people from various parts of the country who come to pay their respects and seek blessings. Our journey began with a visit to the Shrine of Hazrat Bahauddin Zikria Multani. As we entered the premises, a sense of tranquility enveloped us. The beautiful architecture, adorned with intricate designs and vibrant colors, immediately caught our attention. The shrine's grandeur and elegance were truly awe-inspiring. Inside, we witnessed devotees engaging in prayers and expressing their devotion to Hazrat Bahauddin Zikria Multani, a renowned Sufi saint. The atmosphere was filled with a profound sense of spirituality, as the rhythmic recitation of religious verses resonated through the air. The fragrance of incense and the soft glow of candles further added to the ethereal ambiance. We took our time to explore the intricacies of the shrine, marveling at the intricate calligraphy and artwork that adorned its walls and ceilings. The exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail were a testament to the devotion and reverence held for the saint. It was a humbling experience to witness the unwavering faith of the pilgrims who had traveled from far and wide to seek solace and guidance at this sacred site. Afterward, we made our way to the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam, another revered figure in the history of Multan. The shrine's architecture, featuring a magnificent dome and minarets, was a sight to behold. The atmosphere here was no less enchanting, with the sound of qawwalis (Sufi devotional music) echoing throughout the complex. Inside the shrine, we were captivated by the tomb of Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam, adorned with exquisite tile work and intricate marble carvings. The vibrant colors and geometric patterns added to the visual splendor of the place. We joined in the prayers and observed devotees making offerings and seeking blessings. The sense of unity and devotion among the pilgrims was truly inspiring. Our visit to Multan wouldn't have been complete without exploring the Heritage Museum at Qasim Bagh. This museum is a treasure trove of Multan's rich cultural heritage and history. We were fascinated by the extensive collection of artifacts, including ancient pottery, sculptures, and intricate jewelry, showcasing the city's artistic traditions and craftsmanship. As we strolled through the museum's exhibits, we learned about Multan's significance as a center of trade and cultural exchange throughout history. The museum provided a captivating insight into the region's diverse past, from the Indus Valley Civilization to the Mughal era and beyond. It was a delightful experience to immerse ourselves in the vibrant history and heritage of Multan. Overall, our visit to the shrines of Hazrat Bahauddin Zikria Multani and Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam, along with the Heritage Museum at Qasim Bagh, left an indelible impression on us. The spiritual aura, architectural splendor, and cultural richness we encountered during our trip were truly unforgettable. We left with a deep appreciation for the religious and cultural heritage of Multan, cherishing the memories of this extraordinary journey.
