7 quieter places to spot cherry blossoms in Japan - SilverKris

"A compact landscape garden in central Hiroshima about a 15-minute walk from Hiroshima Station, it is planted with roughly 200 cherry trees and has manicured lawns often used for hanami gatherings. Its picturesque ponds and lawns make it a quieter, photogenic alternative to more touristy parks." - Joyce Chua

This is one of the most be beautiful gardens I've seen around Japan. Having been to all prefectures I can say this garden is maintained with love and care. Beautiful koi in the pond and lots of fauna that attract many animals. The garden is laid out with several themes, extremely clean and well manicured. You can even do a tea ceremony there or you can even have a relaxing time watching the world go by. Best to do in the morning where it isn't too crowded and amazing sunlight filtering in through the plants.

This is a gorgeous garden in the middle of the city. An easy and quick walk away from the train station, and close to the castle too. Somehow it is very spacious but feels small at the same time (in a good way!). The garden has many beautiful ponds with multiple bridges you can cross. There's also two tea houses and a souvenir shop. If you are collecting them, there's a stamp available at front where you get your tickets. Many lovely benches around the garden for you to stop, sit and relax, take it all in and take photos. There are so many posts explaining some history regarding the garden and the city (the ginko tree that survived the A-bomb or the man made mound that mimicks Mt Fuji, etc.). If you enjoy Japanese gardens, do take the time to visit here.

Picturesque and very well taken care of garden - fully worth the entrance fee of 350 yen. It is evident and clear that tons of effort has been made to craft the garden into an amazingly curated experience for guests. The views and architecture is breathtaking. This is one of my highest rated experiences in Hiroshima and highly recommend to visit. Kudos to the great people who take care of this piece of history! 5/5

This is a lovely garden, especially on a sunny day & not too busy. Enjoyed a good hour here wandering around the small trails & sitting enjoying the different views around the pond. They also have a few nice spots for tea & sweets, plus flower arranging. For us it was the perfect place to rest & reflect after the peace memorial museum emotional visit.

I visited in the early evening and ended up staying until closing, walking slowly through the trails for about two hours. The fall colors were beautiful, and the sound of the wind moving through the trees and bamboo felt grounding. I watched a crow splash playfully in a fountain and koi glide through the pond. A calm, memorable escape.

Really peaceful - we had a great time just walking around here. Great views from different areas of the gardens and such a variety of plans and natural wildlife as well as the coy carp. Would really recommend stopping off here and spending an hour or two

Google
Beautiful garden, very close to the train station. It’s 350 yen to get in, but it’s worth it. It’s very peaceful, very well kept and it’s lovely to walk over those bridges and discover what lies after each path. There was also a ceremony going on with people wearing kimono and playing music, so it was even more interesting. Definitely check it out, it’s very relaxing and soothing.

Google
Shukkeien Garden is a lush, beautifully landscaped green space in Hiroshima, perfect for a peaceful stroll. The garden features many charming bridges and some stairs, so be ready for a bit of walking. You’ll often spot koi fish and turtles in the ponds, adding to the tranquil atmosphere. There’s a small entry fee to enter, and the facilities, including clean toilets, are well maintained. A lovely spot to relax and enjoy nature in the city.

Yelp
Shukkeien Garden was originally built in 1620 and has since been modified many times. My husband and I visited this garden one time with a tour guide. The garden contained a large lake with koi fish and many bridges. Sections of the garden showcased many different types of trees and flowers. My favorite section was the bamboo forest. A beautiful tea house was on site, but I did not have the time to enjoy tea here.

Yelp
A wonderful park. It was a former home of an official and it is now preserved for public use with a separate museum.

Yelp
A hallmark of bustling Japanese cities is the abundance of secluded gardens that offer a respite from the intensity of big city life. And although Shukkei-en isn't the most stunning garden in Japan, there is something poignant about standing on a hill looking over a lake dotted with miniature islands while the centerpiece stands immovable. The arched bridge, the focal point of the garden, inexplicably survived the blast from the horrific atomic bomb in 1945, just 6000 feet away. Defying the laws of physics with a remarkable invincibility, the bridge and a handful of trees remain as reminders of the past. As is typical of these gardens, the lake is filled with aquatic creatures great and small. I highly recommend buying carp food for 100 Yen (US $0.89) and you'll be able to feed hundreds of fish and turtles who watch you with a careful eye and flock to the treats you cast into the water. If you visit Hiroshima, definitely stop by this locale.

Yelp
Very well worth it. Large place. Give yourself plenty of time. Tons of tree life including larger and smaller bonzai. If you are traveling with a young child(ren), this a very do-able. The forts are on the periphery. Grounds are very well maintained. You can pack a light lunch and have it in a peaceful, beautiful environment.

Yelp
Beautiful garden about 10 mins walk from the JR Hiroshima station. Go right at opening and enjoy a peaceful stroll through the garden. It'll take about 1.5 hours if you stop and take photos. The highlights in the spring are all of the cherry trees. They have probably one of the most beautiful gardens I've seen yet with a bunch of varieties resulting in trees with many colors like white, light pink, pink, dark pink, purple, red, and even a multi-colored white and pink one! The cherry tree grove is to the right of the entrance. If you want to stop by there first while it's still early, veer off of the main route (starts on the left) and head over to the right. Other highlights: Only standing tree after the atomic bomb dropped Turtles sunbathing Hill inspired by Mount Fuji Large lake- you might even catch seeing some flying fish! 250 JPY per person.

Yelp
One of the most beautiful, peaceful, picturesque parks/garden in all of Japan. We spent half a day here walking around taking millions of pictures of the lake, the teahouses, the shrines, and the lush greenery.

Yelp
Probably one of the parks I've visited in Japan that still remain vibrant in my mind. Very peaceful and tranquil. A must visit if you're in Hiroshima.

Yelp
got to stop by the shukkeien via the maple tour bus and it was totally worth it! located adjacent to the hiroshima prefectural art museum. beautiful landscaping with several small bridges and a gorgeous pond filled with plenty of koi fishes and turtles. a great place to take a stroll and relax in the tea houses located inside the garden.

Yelp
Beautiful Japanese garden near the city center! We were so fortunate to be staying few blocks away from it otherwise we would not have known about it. This is a typical Japanese garden but with some historical artifacts located inside. For a very affordable price you will experience tranquility and view in awe the well manicured garden and islets behind the art museum. There are a few benches you can rest and enjoy this hidden beauty. We saw that they conduct tea ceremony here too but unfortunately for us we did not have enough time to experience it. Several couple were noted having their engagement or wedding picture taken here. It was definitely a well worth time spent here.
