Stayed there last week, my 3rd stay at this location over the last 3-4 years with a variety of people: one was a solo trip, one with my mother, and this last visit with my husband. The first visit was great, super impressed. People friendly, room spotless, nice view. Second visit was also great but the cracks began to creep up and I rationalized those away. Beach access is great as is the view if you get the 3rd or 4th floor ocean view. This last visit? Eh. The room was a good bit more than what I remembered paying (thanks inflation, also peak vacation time) and I called to confirm the reservation a few days prior. No one mentioned at the time the key detail of the elevator being out of order and the room was booked on the top floor. My husband has RA and climbing anything is murder on the joints. If I had known the elevator was going to be out of order most of the week we were there, I would've asked for a lower floor or cancelled altogether, but no. No one thought to relay this key detail. So, we arrive July 10 at night, I check in at the desk and hear the astounding news regarding the elevator and asked when it would be repaired and received the condescending reply from the snarky desk clerk "well, you got the good room view, so..." like that's supposed to make it better? Kinda dismissive and not helpful at all. This did not help my mood after a 13 hr drive and a banging headache. Elevator wasn't repaired until Thursday and the housekeeper told me that it had been out since the previous Thursday, her day off, so my view of a formerly favorite location slipped further. The fridge in the room didn't shut all the way (you had to practically kick the door shut) and frost had built up in the back pretty thickly, so anything in there didn't cool all the way. Wasn't a big deal since all we kept in there was coffee creamer and bottles of water, but other guests might want to actually put food in there and it would be nice for it to not spoil. Housekeeping must never rotate the mattresses because when you sit down on the side with the table, there is a noticeable dip. Beds are comfortable though, so there's that. Sit on the side nearer the window and you'll find that it is much more firm. They don't vacuum until you leave. I get that they won't change linens unless you request in order to save money on laundry costs, since it also seems crazy to me to change sheets and towels every day for a week long stay by a guest, but they can vacuum every day. Doesn't take long to do that. When I checked out on the morning of July 16, I informed the desk clerk on duty of the iffy room fridge and he dutifully took down the info and printed out my receipt, which totaled over 2500.00 for a six day stay. Did I get a thank you? No. Was I asked how my stay was? No. Did I get a "Hope to see you again!" No. I was handed my receipt and summarily ignored.
I don't think I'll stay here again. Something has happened here and I can't put my finger on where, when or what, but I was pretty disappointed and will find other lodgings on my next visit to OBX.
