Its free and organized very good. Stop by the tourist office at the train station and get an area map from a helpful English speaking staff. Lot of things to do.
We were checking out the Google map direction and felt it was not doable due to time and distance. However, that was not an accurate information. We took the bus instead of taxi for that adventure effect (never rode a bus in Japan) and took only 15 minutes. There ate lot of things to do and local bus company offers unlimited multi-day pass might be a good option or just rent a car (International license is a must)
Get off at the Shujenji Onsen Hotel and start walking up the hill. You get to see all the major attractions like shrine, temple, foot bath, Kawara Yu.
Its beautiful greenery everywhere. Ume, Sakura, Kikuzakura, Rhododendron and even Japanese maples.
