On the Grid : Si Espresso Bar

"Italian coffee is held to a high standard by both owner and cafe goer, so expect some damn good espresso and latte from Si.The window seats are a great place to sip, as they look out onto the busy street where you'll watch car, bike and streetcar whiz by over the course of your stay. Enjoy quality espresso and a small roll as you read and listen to the atmospheric music that plays overhead. A great place to stop, think and drink." - Kev Seto

If you like coffee , this is the place to get a real coffee. Amazing bean, blend and taste.

Google
Stopped by yesterday for a morning latte and apricot cornetto, had to make the trip across town again this morning for another cornetto, this time pistachio - they’re phenomenal. The espresso drinks are also well crafted and delicious. I’m happy to have stumbled on this spot and hope to make it a regular occurrence.

Google
Amazing place! Definately recommending it 👌 Such a cozy and warm coffee shop ☕ Love from the first latte! We stopped by today with my hubby and just in love! Great service, very delicious coffee, cookies must try! P.s. you can get authentic Italian pasta and sauce here is well.

Google
You know when you frequent a coffee shop but sometimes the coffee is great and other times it’s off depending on the barista or the time of day? Well it isn’t like that at Si. EXTREMELY consistent! I live in the west end and I love traversing to the east side for the best cappuccino in Toronto. Each coffee is made with care and attention. This isn’t hipster third wave sour coffee. This is proper espresso rooted in the Italian tradition.

Google
I finally found a place that serves a wonderfully smooth and mellow latte! This cute as a button place has efficient service. And, has a lovely chilled vibe.

Google
Small espresso bar with great espresso and pastries. I like coming here every time I’m in the area to have an espresso at the window. Quick service. Great staff.

Google
The croissants are excellent here. The coffee is really good too. Friendly service as well.

Google
had a really pleasant experience at this cafe today! My baby was crying and I needed a place to feed him before getting on the subway. The staff person was super chill and accommodating about us hanging out for a bit so he could eat and get a bit tired. The apricot croissant was delicious (and served warm without even having to ask for it to be warmed up! it's the small things!) as was the cortado.

Yelp
I've been here a few times before I was a yelper so I didn't bother reviewing these guys. Small little coffee shop located at Broadview and danforth. Super friendly service that was prompt and accurate. Coffee was good but not amazing. Croissant was crispy on the outside which I like but undercooked on the inside. Solid 3.5 stars but rounded up, cause that's what I learned in Math. The owner is definitely super friendly and has a great neighbourhood following.

Yelp
Part of the Indie Coffee Passport. The location is decent as its close to the subway station. The space is kind of tight but seems to appeal to the clientele as there were plenty of people sitting there using WiFi and chatting away. The barista was working alone but seemed to be managing the traffic well and was very talkative and friendly. I went for a cappuccino. The initial pour for the shot looked pretty good as there was a good amount of crema. The milk was frothed OK no latte art to speak of. The espresso was very mellow. I would say 2 star for the cappuccino. 2.5 star over all. Same as last year so the rating stands I wanted to get something to eat but they don't serve any sandwiches

Yelp
I like Si Espresso Bar! Small and cozy space. Friendly owner and me having conservation why we prefer to drink in a mug! Cappuccino was A-OK! Good Neighbourhood coffee shop!! Great Indie coffee passport stop!

Yelp
Cozy, quaint cafe that was a convenient alternative to the Tim Hortons that was all the way on the other side of the road! Cute, very airy with a small menu. Coffee, however, was a disappointment. It was unbalanced and very watery at times. During some sips, there was delicious, flavourful coffee and the second star was added for that reason. Aside from coffee, they didn't have a lot to offer. Staff were friendly and attentive. Prices reasonable. Despite my questionable opinion on the coffee, I'd rather support them than the Tim Hortons across the road.

Yelp
Quaint little place, very comforting. I ordered a cortado, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Coffee was good, very smooth. Wouldn't say it's the best coffee I've ever had, but I would come back just for the ambiance. Feels like walking into a friend's kitchen for a coffee and a chat. Reliable. The variety of baked goods is also a temptation.

Yelp
I love this café! Friendly relaxed vibe, lattès and pastries delicious. A Riverdale stand-out!

Yelp
Dropped in for some java because we were in the area and had time to kill. Si is a cute, cozy, and unassuming place - it's This place is tiny, but it's nicely decorate and looks like you're in someone's living room. There were a few regulars here as they knew the woman who worked here. I had a latte and my sister had a regular coffee. It was a little expensive; I'm not sure if it was because of the time of day, but offering more food here would definitely add to this place.
google avatar

Yelp
You can't got wrong with anything you order here. It's a family owned and operated business and they truly take pride in the service and quality of their drinks. I got a regular coffee and it was great! My aunt loves their Americano and orders it every time she visits. A beautiful, cozy coffee shop worth a visit!

Yelp
Love! My favourite cafe in all of Toronto. Delicious espresso and very friendly owner.
google avatar

Yelp
Yes! Charming spot, with a friendly owner who knows all the regulars by name. You can tell the local regulars love this place. Having coffee here is like dropping by a buddy's place for a quickie (no.. not that kind of quickie.. and no.. I don't swing that way.. and no.. there's nothing wrong with that). If you're in the hood and want an alternative to the Danforth strip, it's worth venturing around the corner. Comprende? Capiche? Si.

Yelp
I will probably never go here again but you should be aware that Si Espresso Bar exists. The pros: - it's located somewhere where there isn't any other coffee - it's clean - the girls who work there are super nice & friendly, but they don't know or love coffee - They have Circle and Square baked goods (a-la Dark Horse, Te Aro) and those ARE my favorite muffins The cons: - My cappuccino was horrible, I threw it away (I will usually comment that something is horrible, them drink it) - They said they had 1% then they actually didn't, and the people who were working there couldn't decide if they normally had 1% or if they never had it - There is no WiFi 1 star for the horrible coffee... and in fairness, it could definitely have been user error on the barrista's part... but the place itself had an alright vibe, although with no wifi... I would really never come here again.

Yelp
Wandered and wandered Greek Town looking for a non-chain coffee shop and we stumbled upon Si. We were pretty excited since it looked like a place that might serve some good espresso or tasty lattes. Well, I'll say the Americano was pretty good, but that's all I can really say about the place. The sign says they have many different types of milk, including Lacteeze, which made us happy since we are both lactose intolerant. Well, they were out of that. Oh, and also out of almond milk.. so no lattes for us, ordered Americanos instead. Guess what was also a surprise? They only take cash. I did not see any signs and I guess it was terrible of me to assume they took debit/credit. But really, in this time you should have a big sign to warn people that you only take cash. Luckily my friend had some leftover American money and they took it as payment, otherwise I was going to have to run to the bank and back or we were going to leave the coffees behind. In the end, the service was nice enough and the Americano was acceptable... but definitely bring your cash if you are stopping by.

Yelp
What a little hidden gem - Great little Coffee bar! Very eclectic in decor, but a nice comfortable place to spend some time. Had a double macchiato and it was absolutely fantastic....just as the good espressos should be.

Yelp
Si Espresso has undergone new management and opened up about a month ago. There's always pros and cons to a change. They've renovated, with a nice white bench, instead of two high tables, and painted the walls. Very sleek. They also have free wifi now. But gone are the lovely pastries that Edge, the previous owner, used to supply. Also I miss the banter that we used to have. The barista was friendly but a little cold at the same time. The Americano ($2.39) was alright, but not as good as before. It went down smooth, but I found it a little watery and almost the same as the coffee time across the street.

Yelp
I was surprised to find that I hadn't reviewed this place! This was my third visit, and my experiences have been pretty consistent. The owner has been the only barista each time, but he moves things along pretty quickly. Pros - Cappucino was tasty and well made. - Owner knows many of his regulars by name, and is good natured. - High quality cups and saucers, made in Italy. - Public acoustic guitar, available for customers to play. (This touch nudge my review from 3.5 to 4 stars.) Cons - Small space that makes lining up and getting to condiments awkward. - No wifi. - No latte art. These are old-school, no-nonsense drinks. Lots of choice in this area...Rooster is about 1km south, Broadview Espresso a couple of blocks north, but Si is worth a visit. Take that, review #300!

Yelp
This place is always packed with people, definitely not one of those place to sit and dominate a table and chair. It seems the barista Saverio, knew everyone seated on the counter table by name. Seems to be a cool neighbourhood indie coffee place. Strategically situated by Broadview station. I finally braved myself to walk in, grabbing a to-go flat white with the busy crowd in the cafe. The flat white coffee was not on the menu list, but I asked anyway. To my surprise, the barista made a decent flat white, assuming he did not make it much, being not started on the menu list. He even threw a joke about him making flat white for 20 years! He essentially explained to some costumers when they asked what a flat white is, he explained it in great deal in a very Italian way stating the difference between a flat white vs cappuccino. Drop in, you'll find as if you're in someones living room enjoying a cup of coffee and some pastries kind of atmosphere. The only downside is, there's no proper food in this establishment. But you can certainly get a croissant or pastry to nibble on.

Yelp
Super cute little neighbourhood espresso bar. Love the decor and the latte was delicious. The owner himself was working the coffee bar and served us some of his mama's homebaked cookies...loved 'em. When we arrived, the place was packed with locals and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Overall, I liked it.

Yelp
Hmm. If you really know what a good espresso should taste like than this is a good place to come. The flavour reminded me of the espresso's that I have while on my trips to Italy. The tiny little shop is cute and well proportioned as they are in Italy. Staff is very friendly and courteous. Yes there is no WiFi, but most espresso bars don't as they are meant to be quick stops. For you true espresso peeps, check it out.
google avatar

Yelp
In my opinion, this is the perfect coffee shop. It's tiny and cozy with just enough room to find a seat. The coffee and espresso drinks are very well made. There's a welcoming crowd of regulars but also enough space to remain anonymous if you need "me time." I really love this kind of non-overbearing friendliness. They offer a prepaid-tab system. Best of all, while the place is small it STILL has bathrooms (not one, but TWO).
google avatar

Mauricio A.

Yelp
Si Espresso Bar is the very image of its name. Yes, this is an espresso bar in the sense that, yes there is a bar, although tiny one. Indeed, this place small to the point of cramping, since there is next to no space anywhere. I went there with my friend and in between us, the barista and another customer reading a magazine, this place felt mildly crowded. Yup, that small. Decor is good for what is worth and I liked the friendly, laid back vibe, but this is realistically a coffee express joint. You come in, buy and leave. Don't expect a hangout joint. For that, walk north and east to the Danforth.

Yelp
One of the Indie Coffee Passport spots, this one is very much a neighbourhood cafe and in that it seems to succeed very well. It's tiny, and everyone squeezed in there seems to be a local, or at least well known to the barista. I'm not from the area, and it's disconcerting each time I've been; I always feel a bit invisible and never really comfortable enough to stay so I order my beverage to go. Also, note to Passport holders: they no longer offer Nutella Lattes on the Passport. I'd been looking forward to one the whole way to the cafe. Oh well. On the other hand, the soy latte I had instead was really good. Rich, creamy, thick. And no extra charge on the passport for a milk alternative, which I really appreciate. So, 2 stars for the atmosphere, 3 stars for the Latte, which bumps it up to a 3-star review.

Yelp
Si, under Severio, works. The location is great. Classic Gourmet is a fine coffee and in Severio's hands, it's as good as it gets. It's not the sweetest coffee out there, but whatever sweetness there is, Severio manages to bring it out. He's 'not' winging it. As a former employer for Saeco, and one who over the course of many years has shown many shop owners and baristas how to pull shots, he knows how to makes espressos and espresso-based drinks. He carries a nice selection of indie shop-appropriate eats. Over time they may get changed up as Severio monitors the situation. Some are nice. (He carries a rather nice, special chocoloatey biscotti.) Some are so so. The small shop is positively funky. The wifi is appreciated, although I prefer to socialize at indie shops. Sometimes though, the wifi is handy. if you want to eat, you're close to a zillion eateries. My fave (bearing in mind that I can't explore much while I remain dirt poor) is Bread & Greens, a stone's throw from Si, on the north/ east corner of Danforth & Broadview, next to McDonald's. Severio is enjoying what he's doing and it shows. He's friendly, a gentleman and a craftsman.

Yelp
Very bitter and rude service from owner. I was trying to enjoy my latte and he was loudly complaining to another customer the whole time. I should have just gone to Starbucks...
google avatar

Kumiko M.

Yelp
It's definitely a cool looking spot but I found it just ok. The coffee was good but they didn't have much of anything else...all the displays were empty and we even found a cookie for sale that was past it's expiry date (big thumbs down).
google avatar

Lauren P.

Yelp
Recently changed hands, and the new owner put a lot of work into the place - very bright and clean. He's super friendly, makes a killer iced coffee and most of the baked goods are made by his family. If his mom is around you might even get a free cookie.
google avatar

Yelp
Never, ever had an Americano like this ever before... Hands down the most freshest and tasty Americano i came across. Very friendly service. Will definitely drop by more often.

Izzy T.

Yelp
Really love this little cafe just off the Danforth. Can only seat I'd say about 8 people and the menu is minimalist, but boy is the produce great! The espresso is delicious, to me it has a distinctive woody yet sweet taste that is quite unique and nicely strong. The staff are very friendly - a man who I guess may be the owner already knew my order on my second visit! A small but high quality range of Italian treats are offered, most notably canolli. Yum! Prices are quite incredible - $2 tax included for a single shot of some of the nicest espresso in the city. Very authentic Italian place that I would recommend to anyone seeking a break from all the hipstery places.

Yelp
- tiny little spot for non-starbucks indy coffee. had a decent latte. very friendly barrista. - the got nice fender acoustic guitar in the corner... for patrons to pick up and play with it. - will be back next time i'm in the area.

Yelp
I already had a good impression of Si Espresso Bar with my first experience. When I first arrived to Si Espresso, I had no idea how small the space was going to be. In attempt to study, it was difficult to find a spot to spread out my books and do my readings. However, I got to chit-chat with the barista and she was very friendly, in which I enjoyed my conversation with her. I love it when I could have an open conversation with those who work at the cafe. I was eager to return for my second visit about a year later. Learned the second time around, instead of doing my homework I brought a friend along to catch up with over coffee. The barista who I spoke with the last time wasn't there when I arrived but apparently she still worked there. I got to speak with Saverio, the owner of Si Espresso Bar. He told me their roasted coffee beans came once a week from Rufino Espresso. Many of the baked goods that you could purchase at the cafe are homemade by his mother and girlfriend, which ranges from cakes to Italian cookies! I thought this was a really nice touch to the cafe. The place only plays vinyl music because the owner enjoys the sound of it. There is also a guitar in the cafe where anyone can pick up and play if they are bored enough! As well, every three months to celebrate the locals supporting the cafe, there is a party hosted. There's no stamp cards but the cafe does keep track of the regulars' birthdays!

Yelp
Best coffee in the Danforth! Love this spot, great for an intimate coffee or a good grab and go. They make some of the best Americanos i have ever had. I can't do lattes so no review on that. I just love the spot and its great to support small business.

Yelp
I'm almost never in this area but I stopped in by chance one morning and I agree that Si does one of the best americanos in the city. Probably one of the best I've ever had.

Margaret I.

Yelp
Cappuccino and Espresso is real McCoy at Ci and just like the one We had in a small cafe Bar on a foot of Spanish Steps in Rome. Si is like CHEERS, 80's sitcom, Italian style " Where everybody knows your name and They are always glad you came." The time we dropped in Saverio's mother brought cookies and all customers enjoyed them. Saverio makes you feel right at home and goes out of his way for his customers. A breath of fresh air for the neighborhood. M.& E

Karen K.

Yelp
This place is one of my all time favourites in the city. Really, really good chocolatey and rich americanos. Super friendly owner and always lovely conversation with the guaranteed amiable and motley crew that hangs out there. Yeah, it's a tight squeeze but it's cozy and warm and friendly.

Ryan W.

Yelp
First time visitor today, but will be going back for my espresso fix. Triple espresso on ice, black, is pretty hard to get wrong, but the espresso was very very good. Smooth, no bitterness, strong, perfect. The place is small and simple, but I prefer that. The barista was extra great. Was a bit short on cash, and unlike the coffee giants near Si, he was ultra awesome and said not to worry about it. I will make sure to repay the favor next time I am there.

rick s.

Yelp
Owner tends to yap allot with people and does not pay attention to the cappuccino that he made. Milk was sour. Americano sucked big time. Owner needs to concentrate on the coffee and not his pals

Shay S.

Yelp
I visited Si Espresso using my indie coffee passport one weekday morning. There were a fair number of people there, sitting, studying, and reading the paper. The coffee was outstanding. The service was terrible. The barista was kind of rude, even though I tipped a couple dollars. Maybe he was just having a bad day. Anyway, I gave it 3 stars because of that, the rudeness kind of made an impression on my overall experience. I would go back for the coffee though.

Chris M.

Yelp
Excellent coffee, one of the best. If you are looking for great espresso, latte, or macchiatto this is the place. Small and cozy, great staff.
