20 Best Bangkok Hotels, From Grande Dames to Converted Canal Homes | Condé Nast Traveler

"A quiet, bohemian canal bungalow off the Bangkok Noi canal, I found Siamotif to be an elegant homestay-meets-boutique hotel: tropical plants spill from wooden balconies, free bicycles line the walkway, resident kittens scamper, and murals in the bedrooms are hand-painted by local artists. The seven themed rooms each have distinctive design touches (the Flowery Room’s Chinese-red scrolling trees; the Celadon Suite’s aqua walls embedded with pottery and a roof balcony with bean bags), and the service and vibe feel intimate and personable." - Jenny Adams

Siamotif

"Why book? When the owner, Maii, inherited this 75-year-old Thai river home from her father, she transformed it into an elegant bohemian getaway, where tropical plants flow off wooden balconies, free bicycles line the walkway, resident kittens scamper and the murals on the bedroom walls are hand-painted by local artists. Set the scene The Siamotif is a moment of quiet discovery in a city teeming with heat, people, vibrant street life, and honking taxis. The location is off of one of the Chao Phraya’s largest arteries, the Bangkok Noi canal; to stay here is to get away from the chaos, while only being 20 minutes by car from main attractions like Chinatown. Bangkok’s canal neighborhoods are enchanting; there are wild orchids, wooden fences, and rustic houses perched on stilts above the river. Gates and clothing lines are decorated by prayer flags and laundry, and laneways are dotted with small shrines to ancestors. Staying here, you’ll truly get a sense of every-day life in Thailand and connect with other travelers looking to do the same. The backstory The wooden floors are cold and smooth as you slip off your shoes at the front door and enter the open, atrium-styled lower level of a traditional Thai house, built in the 1940s. The vibe and service match seamlessly—a homestay married with the little luxuries of a personable, boutique hotel. The rooms There are only seven rooms. Each is named for the theme, with design touches to match. In the Flowery Room, for example, Chinese-red walls are hand painted in scrolling trees and blossoms and antique, carved-wood doors lead to the bathroom. In the Celadon Suite, the aqua walls are embedded with pieces of pottery and a roof balcony comes with two bean bags for river-watching during al fresco happy hours. Food and drink Beyond a simple, cheerful breakfast—your request of Thai style or western each day—you’ll need to venture out. The adventurous might find a few street food options in blocks nearby but for a full sit-down meal, it’s best to venture back into the city proper. The neighborhood/area Even with a population of 10 million, Bangkok has tricks up her sleeve. One street can be filled with people, but two turns down one of the tiny alleyways, and you’d swear you were 50 years in the past. Siamotif is perfectly poised to show you the city’s sense of time travel. The service Repeat visitors are common here, thanks to a delightful combination of charming interior design and the staff’s warm welcome. Within a few minutes of check-in, you feel right at home. For families Bringing your own entertainment, be it a Kindle, an iPad, or a novel. A coloring book could be helpful for little ones, or just adults with decent ADHD. Accessibility It’s a historic home and there are both uneven floors, narrow passages and some stairs." - Jenny Adams

If you want to be away from the really touristy area this place is perfect. More than that this hotel is truly special. Stepping from the winding path through the little gate is breathtaking, stunning and unexpected. It's cool and peaceful ( literally, due to the lush planting in the courtyard) and still incredibly welcoming. We stayed in the porcelain room which isn't just a room it's enormous, comfortable and beautiful. The bed is lovely, the whole room spotlessly clean, the AC works great and the view is one of my best memories of our entire Thailand trip. If this review was only about the room, hotel and location it would be 10/10 but it's not. The people who own and work at this hotel are the real reason I will never stay anywhere else. The breakfast was not only delicious but thoughtful, interesting and kind. I ended up not feeling very good one morning and instantly, without even asking, they brought me an alternative breakfast dish that would be easier on my stomach. I really cannot describe how wonderful everyone was, the owner especially. Taking time to have conversations with us and helping us anytime we needed it, even when we brought back bags of late night food and snacks. This hotel is worth every penny, no question. You will not regret staying here. Also they have cats 20/10.

Almost don’t want to write a review so I can gate keep this hotel to myself. Already dreaming of coming back here, it was the perfect oasis, felt like home away from home. I would always look forward to coming back here after a long day in the busy streets of Bangkok. If you’re looking for a quiet zen retreat, this is your place. It’s beautiful and lush and the ladies taking care of you are so sweet and kind. I felt well taken care off and rested. Plus they have house cats roaming around, it was a dream!! Also breakfast facing the river is such a lovely way to start the day!

We had the pleasure to stay a few nights at Siamotif. After staying a few nights downtown and then later in the islands, staying at Siamotif was the breeze of fresh air we needed. The neighborhood is very quaint and away from the craziness. Staying there you'll have a very local experience all while enjoying a wonderfully restored Thai house just by the canal. Siamotif is the embodiement of Sabai Sabai. From the slow pace life, to their deliciously home made breakfast, from feedign the fishes from a lounging chair to petting the cats on the deck, it is the perfect experience to relax. Above it all the staff is extremely caring and helpful and will make your stay in Bangkok feel like you're staying with great friends or family.

My husband and I cannot stop thinking about our stay here! I left with tears in my eyes - this place is truly magical. From the delicious, complimentary breakfasts, to Yakie and the amazing staff, to good mornings from Copper and the cats. We can't wait for another chance to come back! Location is also perfect for experiencing the real Bangkok, it's right by public transit and the Grand Palace. This was our favourite place in Thailand!

I loved staying here so much. The unique, peaceful, stylish rooms, the location on the canal and the dedicated care and support given by the manager, Yackie, was extraordinary. This is a place I could stay for fora few months if I had the time. The breakfasts were lovely too, have prepared by Yackie and her staff. She also was great for organising a driver for us on a day trip to Ayutthaya and the floating markets. Not a tour, just a driver.|This is more like a home stay than a hotel. You live in a non-tourist district where local Thais live. But the trains and buses are just around the corner. And the ferry piers aren’t far either. You will also want to use GRAB to get around, as it’s 20-30 min from most of the classic tourist spots… If you want to feel like you’re at home in Thailand, staying in your own unique, beautiful space, this is it. 10/10

Staying at Siamotif Hotel was one of the best parts of our visit to Bangkok! The hotel itself is beautiful and feels like you’re staying in a friend’s home. The staff were very accommodating and cooked a delicious breakfast each morning, which we enjoyed eating while looking out at the canal. It’s a bit far away from some of the city’s sight seeing areas, but we appreciated coming home to a quaint and relaxing space at night. If we’re ever back in Bangkok, we will definitely stay here again! 🐈

Ahhhh amazing and charming place. Right on a canal with a nice view. Visit with the cats running around the place or you got bread, catFISH too. Everything is clean, staff are super attentive, and I felt secure. Neighborhood looks rough here and there, but the people are all lovely. I would strongly consider going back. Basically no negatives, mm unless you have mobility issues?

We had such a wonderful stay here!!! The staff is so kind and welcoming, and they have cats that live on the premises. We loved how we had a view of the canal, breakfast in the morning in a beautiful room, and a comfy room with everything we needed. The rooms are so beautiful here, and the fact that it’s just a little bit away from the bustling areas of Bangkok means you get a good rest after a long day of exploring this awesome city. Thank you so much to the Siamotif staff for welcoming us, if we’re in Bangkok again, we’ll be staying here for sure.
