"The Siamotif is a moment of quiet discovery in a city teeming with heat, people, vibrant street life, and honking taxis. The location is off of one of the Chao Phraya’s largest arteries, the Bangkok Noi canal. Built in the 1940s, when the owner, Maii, inherited this 75-year-old Thai river home from her father, she transformed it into an elegant bohemian getaway, where tropical plants flow off wooden balconies, free bicycles line the walkway, resident kittens scamper, and the murals on the bedroom walls are hand-painted by local artists. The vibe and service match seamlessly—a homestay married with the little luxuries of a personable, boutique hotel. There are seven rooms; each is named for the theme, with design touches to match. In the Flowery Room, for example, Chinese-red walls are hand painted in scrolling trees and blossoms and antique, carved-wood doors lead to the bathroom. In the Celadon Suite, the aqua walls are embedded with pieces of pottery and a roof balcony comes with two bean bags for river-watching during alfresco happy hours." - Jenny Adams

"Why book? When the owner, Maii, inherited this 75-year-old Thai river home from her father, she transformed it into an elegant bohemian getaway, where tropical plants flow off wooden balconies, free bicycles line the walkway, resident kittens scamper and the murals on the bedroom walls are hand-painted by local artists. Set the scene The Siamotif is a moment of quiet discovery in a city teeming with heat, people, vibrant street life, and honking taxis. The location is off of one of the Chao Phraya’s largest arteries, the Bangkok Noi canal; to stay here is to get away from the chaos, while only being 20 minutes by car from main attractions like Chinatown. Bangkok’s canal neighborhoods are enchanting; there are wild orchids, wooden fences, and rustic houses perched on stilts above the river. Gates and clothing lines are decorated by prayer flags and laundry, and laneways are dotted with small shrines to ancestors. Staying here, you’ll truly get a sense of every-day life in Thailand and connect with other travelers looking to do the same. The backstory The wooden floors are cold and smooth as you slip off your shoes at the front door and enter the open, atrium-styled lower level of a traditional Thai house, built in the 1940s. The vibe and service match seamlessly—a homestay married with the little luxuries of a personable, boutique hotel. The rooms There are only seven rooms. Each is named for the theme, with design touches to match. In the Flowery Room, for example, Chinese-red walls are hand painted in scrolling trees and blossoms and antique, carved-wood doors lead to the bathroom. In the Celadon Suite, the aqua walls are embedded with pieces of pottery and a roof balcony comes with two bean bags for river-watching during al fresco happy hours. Food and drink Beyond a simple, cheerful breakfast—your request of Thai style or western each day—you’ll need to venture out. The adventurous might find a few street food options in blocks nearby but for a full sit-down meal, it’s best to venture back into the city proper. The neighborhood/area Even with a population of 10 million, Bangkok has tricks up her sleeve. One street can be filled with people, but two turns down one of the tiny alleyways, and you’d swear you were 50 years in the past. Siamotif is perfectly poised to show you the city’s sense of time travel. The service Repeat visitors are common here, thanks to a delightful combination of charming interior design and the staff’s warm welcome. Within a few minutes of check-in, you feel right at home. For families Bringing your own entertainment, be it a Kindle, an iPad, or a novel. A coloring book could be helpful for little ones, or just adults with decent ADHD. Accessibility It’s a historic home and there are both uneven floors, narrow passages and some stairs." - Jenny Adams

This is a beautiful hotel tucked away in a in an alleyway in a typical neighborhood. What really makes it stand out - the friendliness of the people who work there, who will go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. Also the delicious breakfast served by the canal in the morning. It is near a metro stop, which works very well in Bangkok, and I felt safe walking in and out at night. Plus some delicious street food in the area. I loved the tranquility of this place and the opportunity to experience a neighborhood away from the tourists.

Honestly the best place I stayed on my travels through Thailand. The place itself is down a back street, so you’ll have to walk in to it, but it is like 30seconds. The neighbourhood and people in it are super friendly and I loved exploring. The room itself was amazing. So cute, with a lift, beautiful wood, comfy bed, and a spectacular view. You can sit on the rooftop sitting area looking out at the river, or in the dining area in bean bag chairs watching the fish jump at night. The most lovely hosts, including the cats. They looked out for me as a solo traveler, helping with directions, ideas for places to go, and checking in with me as I was coming and going. Breakfast was fantastic and loved sitting and watching the boats pass by as I ate.

I have read about this unique place and found all great reviews. I booked for 4 nights and paid 10000 THB deposit. But 4 days before my arrival was due I received news that one of my sisters passed away in a tragic car accident. I immediately rang the hotel to postpone the arrival and asked if we can keep the booking but on a different date once the funeral had been organised and the date is reset (subject to the availability at later date). The owner wouldn’t budge given this unfortunate and unexpected circumstance. Her reason was she couldn’t resell the room with my sudden notice . So I then asked if I can stay there just one night arriving late so I can have somewhere to stay and then catch the first flight in the morning to Chiangmai to my sister ‘s funeral. Her answer was yes but I had to pay the remaining fee of the entire booking, for even just one night stay . I was preparing to loose the whole 10k deposit but thinking if I could stay there for just one night then go on to the next town for the last good bye . I understand it’s not her problem but I met and dealt with many situations in business but have not come across this type before. Very disappointing. An un compassionate with no empathy to fellow human being.

My friend and I stayed in the charcoal room. It was huge, beautiful, and cozy! It felt like we were far away in a small town but it’s just 15-20 minutes to the center of Bangkok. The room and common areas were spotless. It felt like staying in someone’s home. Staff were very friendly, homemade meals, and friendly kitties. It was quiet and peaceful, you can hear the birds and boats driving by from your room. AC is nice and strong and the room stayed cool even when it was off. Nice shower and huge windows. I’m usually not one to hang out at the hotel during a trip, but this was definitely a place to stay and relax. It was hard not to extend my stay. I will definitely be back. ||A couple things that were not an issue, but you should know before you go- common areas are open air so you’ll see some critters like tiny lizards. It’s a short walk through a residential area to get there whether you drive, Grab, or take public transit. Staff personally let guests in an out of the hotel so it’s not for people who stay out super late (although there are no rules about that, it just feels like common courtesy).

Very traditional, authentic and homey atmosphere with very VERY very welcoming and friendly hosts. The accommodation and its location gives you a taste of local neighborhoods and lifestyles, away from all the buzz and fuss that Bangkok brings. Tasty breakfasts, really calm and relaxing atmosphere, we liked basically everything about this place and its hosts.

The hospitality of Siamotif is exceptional. We enjoyed the included breakfast every day and meals in the evening are possible too. Don't miss the food. |Our room had balconies overlooking the canal which were great for a read and relax but you can also sit in the communal area. The neighborhood is very Thai, very friendly and has an MRT station very close by. |We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend a stay here.

Great advice from host. She arranged our daily itinerary and made restaurant reservation, taxi booking etc… Hotel is great. We particularly appreciated having cocktails on canal facing terrasse. Some had noted noise from long tail boats, this was not an issue for us. Air Con was not working at its best but that was not an issue.

This hotel is so beautiful. The rooms are unique and gorgeously painted, and have comfy beds and great showers. A serene escape among the busy city. Right near the metro so it's easy to get anywhere. And, if you do have any questions, the host family is happy to help. Can't imagine staying anywhere else. Plus, the breakfast is always refreshing, tasty and big
