Finally a hometown bar where the people, the venue, the ambience, and everything overall makes you feel like you’re here with family. My first time there during the weekend I was recommended the bar by a friend Mike. There was food, lots of games on the TV’s, amazing drinks and some sweet folks that showed me the ropes. This is their fav bar and that of their dear late friend I was grateful to hear about. No wonder it’s their favorite, Ashley was a great bartender and host, the other Ashley was nice too! It was kind of like going to that bar from Cheers. Papas Kitchen was open, there’s tons of space with pool tables as well and different options of seating. Great place to grab a bite, watch a game, hang out with your crew, reunite with old friends, new friends, and so much more. Will come visit again soon, good times!

Sideline Grill (Bernal): I ordered 1 french fries (gotta feed that craving) $6.47 ( tax included): The Good: Fries were perfectly done crispy on the outside and velvety on the inside. Hot and plenty. Last time I had fries, this good was in Mikonos (something about seaside restaurants..OOPS.. I digress). Fries were not over/under done, stayed crispy 20 mins in. How?!? The NotSoGood: After ordering the fries, I noticed their lunch specials, $10 fries included (what?!?). At least 5 options from which to choose, all including fries. DARN!DARN!!DARN!! "I'll be Back!!" Take Away: Survey the menue/Specials first before ordering...wish I did. DARN!

I was on my break from work and I was trying to find a place for take out. When low and behold I came across Sideline Sports bar & grill. I placed my order and went to pick it up where I was greeted with smiles and warm greeting, the inside was warm, pleasant and fun. My order wasn't ready yet even though I arrived on time but understandable with current events. So I waited about 5 more min where I see they have a small stage, pool tables and a bar. So finally my food is ready i say ty and go to my car to prepare for the what ordered. I ordered the beef short rib poutin when I saw the picture it made my mouth water. But when I opened the container I was disappointed.. there wasn't hardly enough heavy or short rib, which wasn't enough for the fries i received. Now this Chef was on a competition on the food network..i was just expecting... more. The taste was OK..i spent $15 including a drink which in the end I ended up giving my food away to neighbor. Oh well..

Going through major renovations right now but am looking forward to our new and completely new bar and grill. Bar and grill are open during this time with outside seating and heaters.

This was our first time here for a business meeting. One of our associates told us about s magnificent band called "Texas Fun" that was playing tonight. We ordered the Triple Play and Lasagna. It was delicious!! One of the best meals that we ever had in Modesto. Very impressed and pleased. Music was awesome. This band played Country, Spanish, Classical & a little bit of everything. Wow!!! Amazing musicians!!. One of the drummers was from New York. We normally do not stay until the end but we fell in love with this band!! Coming back next week!!!

Just a friendly neighborhood bar. A good place to have drink and socialize with friends.

I used to live near there in 2015-2016 so I remember how it was then. It was a really fun, popular place then. Lots of camaraderie, patrons and staff. It's bigger now but clearly not as popular. No one was playing pool or darts, actually only about 15 patrons in the whole place. The bartenders are not very friendly, they seemed kind of bored. Very subdued atmosphere.

I consider myself a foodie and when I get excellent meals and a reasonable price I will return many times. The service is excellent and it's a father daughter team. I love them both super nice people. Pairing my meal with an ice cold beer is the sugar on top. Absolutely return over and over again. I love this bar. It's the best chillest place. Thank you! So much fun.

Having been here several times, I can safely say that the food and drinks are tasty and well-priced, and it has a certain saloon or Western bar atmosphere without being one of those bars that you walk in and all the regulars turn to look at you. Earlier in the night, it's a good spot to have a quiet drink by yourself and read a book, even. At least it seems so, since I saw someone reading a good novel there at the bar, having a blast. I like the Golden State Cider that they have on tap. Their vodka cranberry cocktails seem to be pretty potent and tasty as they really got my girl good ‍ Gotta appreciate the pool table and DJ nights they have. More people need to get up and dance and hoedown! I get it sometimes the music doesn't fit it, but sometimes it does. It can be difficult to get the bartender's attention when it's busy, but they usually make a point of acknowledging my presence and patience once they get to me, and that's the bar for you!

Dawn (like the morning and the dish soap) was the BEST!! Great service, great conversation, my husband & I will definitely be back!!

Nice enjoyable place with amazing food! Bartender is an absolute sweetheart and is friendly and courteous. Security guy at the door is weird. I asked him if he charges cover and he just looked at me. I asked him again and he just stared at me. Very strange. I still enjoy the bar and love the bartender and Jeff who runs the kitchen serves great food.

Just a solid, decent local dive bar that showcases San Jose's diversity; a DEI Cheers, if you will. I've sat next to gangbangers, Hells Angels and PhDs from IBM, often in the same night.

I was looking for a sports bar in the area I was staying since I'm not from the area. This place is an old school local hang out with nice people. I met Jeff who made me a great cheese burger with homemade potato salad. Watched the Giants game had an old beer. I'll be back.

This is definitely a bar for the locals that's live near here, you walk in & the regulars know your new & not from the area, cause you get the looks not bad & awkward, you don't belong ones, it's the Hey! newbies in our local joint one, all smiles & when you enter. It's a pretty big bar, does not look like that at all from the outside, they have plenty of parking, out front or the back, where you can enter through the back door. Mixed drinks are worth the $ you pay & not too pricy for the alcohol or bottle beverages. They also have a kitchen where you can order some food (we didn't get any) They had 1 bartender but, it was a Tuesday night (slow) but there was a good amount of people in this place. Lots of TVs playing games & shows. They have a juke box, so that's cool that u can pick you music & hope it comes on while your there. Will definitely be back to this bar when I'm in the area.

Do not go to this bar.Back then last October,They double charged me the same amount of $60 something,I called them three times to get my money back. Second time,last week, I had two drinks,one beer paid by cash and one paid by credit card.Here's the shit happened again,they charged me three different times.I called my credit service and canceled two on Sep 7,I just don't know why there was another one $63.36 on Sep 6.This place sucks.!!!

The food was good but the establishment is set up as sports bar, no tables, very loud music and a clientele of drinkers, and pool table players. If that is what you're looking for, then it is great!!

With the restrictions of COVID in place, Sidieline opened an outdoor, tented area with two tables and three high tops; two space heaters are included. Out on the sidewalk they had about 7 tables but space heaters were not next to all of them, making it a little chilly for some. We ordered beer and vodka cranberries and an order of chicken. Strips. The drinks were good and the chicken strips were average as well as the service. This is a hangout spot and the atmosphere is chill. I'd come back to hang out.

If you love bars where you feel safe and you have decent respectful people around this is not the bar for you. I personally love feeling like at any moment the want to be gangbangers that fill this place could send me to the hospital. The fact that security does absolutely nothing but sit on their thumbs makes the experience even more nerve racking. The bartenders don't know when people are dangerously intoxicated either, so the mix of disregard for patrons safety and that caveman that attend this bar make for such a pleasurable time. It's my favorite place to visit. Makes me want to take the toaster in the bath knowing places like this are allowed to operate in my city.

This place use to be such a relaxing fun safe place to go to but has turned into a complete DUMP Wangbanger spot. People who want to drink and look for fights. Security will turn the other way if you look intimidating! DO NOT go to this spot if you're looking to have a nice fun time. If you are looking for a fight want to get jumped by a bunch of idiots and have security do absolutely nothing then sideline is the spot for you! I'm leaving a star for the bartenders and cooks Aside from them, the rest of the staff is terrible security is an absolute Joke!

Only been it to this place a couple of times and it was through the process of changing the ownership couple of years ago and you know what is been awesome unfortunately just getting old I haven't been there often but whenever anybody from out of town comes as a guest I usually take them to the spot to have a drink and it's not bad.

The food restaurant in here was delicious! They even gave us extra on the house to come back and return! There are 2 pool tables and we ate and shot around for an afternoon The restaurant chef came to check on us multiple times and was a very sweet older man. Could be Leslie Jordan's brother !

Slim pickings on the South side when it comes to bars, restaurants... well, everything for that matter. Divey neighborhood bar but we've always had a good time, staff are great and it became our regular office "offsite" meeting spot. I only wish their food menu was a tad better.

I have been going here for 18 years....it is a neighborhood bar.....everyone knows one another and has for many years. The place is as much fun as you want to make it. The bartenders are all great people, lots of fun, and so you don't get your drink right away. After being there for an hour, two hours, or longer,, do you really need another drink right this minute. the music is loud, but ask they turn it down....Hey it is like any other place. If you fit in you fit in, if not, then find another place. There are a lot of places I don't care for. I like this place because most everyone is from the neighborhood....go in and introduce yourself to Mike the Owner. and Tim who manages the kitchen....good drinks, good food, and lots of fun..... They have a new operator in the kitchen. We had calamari, it was awesome. Lots on the menu. Drinks are good, great friendly place. Give it a try

I lived right next to this place for a year but never ventured in. Ronnie wanted to go to The Summit but after realizing that is was closed (for the evening) we drove and landed here instead. Nothing fancy but it's a family-feel type of establishment. We didn't sit at the bar because seats were all taken. We were the only ones at a table. He went up to the bar to order drinks. He got us vodka and tonic. My first time trying it.. crisp. I have a new love besides White Russians and IPA's. Not a sports bar. They have TV's right at the bar but if you want to watch the game then go elsewhere. They have pool tables and inside the bar is Funny Farms; pretty good burgers and melts. We watched until 2nd period ended and retreated. He's not much of a hockey person but went and watched the majority w/ me anyway. Thanks for the drinks, Ronnie.

Something is off with the liquor here, everyone I know gets alcohol sickness from here. I drink the same thing everywhere I go but whatever is being poured into my drink at this establishment gets me severely sick for days. The bartenders are women and mostly in just bras. It makes me uncomfortable when trying to have a nice drink with my husband. The bartenders are always drinking and talking to each other, it's hard to even order anything or get anyone's attention for service. Do not recommend.

The Truffle Fries had no Truffle taste whatsoever plus they were dry, not good at all. The Onion Rings were soft and soggy. The Burgers had no flavor. Super disappointing, will not order from there again. $46.00 for 2 burgers and 2 sides, that didn't include the delivery fees. Almost $60.00 for a terrible meal.

Please improve! Your space is necessary . Thanks , there must be a common ground for profit/entertainment.

I had an opportunity to go to sidelines and was having a pretty good time the cook was amazing super nice love the pool tables customers were fantastic my only complaint is the bartenders they all seem to be scantily clad and especially when the one came in and most of her breasts were exposed I really didn't appreciate it and for those reasons they can either not have bartenders that look like hookers or I will not patronize them anymore I don't need my man my man going to the bar and ordering beer from half naked women. If we wanted that kind of atmosphere, we're would've gone to the Pink Poodle. We just wanted to have fun at a neighborhood bar, not the corner whore house.

Just posting the menu for the restaurant inside. I haven't eaten there yet but will soon. It was driving me crazy since I couldn't find a pic of menu anywhere so here it is and guarantee first two things I try are the poutine due to being from NJ and loving brown gravy and fries. Great bar, great food, clean, fun environment but yesterday they charged me $13.25 for a shot of Jamison. I think that's a little bit outrageous and unfortunately I ordered four of them so it cost me 50 bucks for four shots.

Definitely an after work playhouse! Variety of games, food, music, TV. Atmosphere was friendly and chill.

Terrible service , female bartender with a BAD attitude. I don't know how this individual still has a job at this location . I've worked in the food service for a long time , even was a bartender at one point. I don't care what you feel or think , if your working at any job there needs to be a level Of professionalism. You don't go shouting at costumers and cussing them out...

What a great find! We were next door at the emergency vet with a dog getting a $1k ultrasound (that's another review) and needed some substance. Sidelines is a local watering hole... a bunch of locals sitting around making fun of each and drinking beer. It's a lively group for 4pm! Fun place! But Funny Farm is the real owner of the five stars! The customer service (Randy) was AWESOME! And the food was just what we needed. The wings were nice and crispy, loaded tots PERFECT, and hubby's sandwich was gone before I could get a bite. We will be back for sure!!!

Neighborhood gem! Not a dull moment. Great prices, awesome bartenders, and fun people. Strong drinks and you can control the jukebox with an app. Pool, darts, hockey, Etc. Big inside ! Love it !

I've only been into Sideline during the day, when it's pretty quiet. I go in mostly for the food at Funny Farm and then eat it in the bar with a cold beer! The beer is cold, the taps are clean, and the service is good. It's a pretty cool divey-style bar with a modern jukebox (read: come sail away gets played alot) The taps are standard, nothing too fancy but they have beers ranging from the simple light beers to heavier IPAs. I've never ordered any cocktails. Prices are standard. Stop in to Sideline if you're in the area! It's a pretty standard bar with competitive prices, a very chill/relaxed/old school vibe, and a cute little restaurant where you can order food inside.

This review is mainly for a bartender ... an older blonde woman. I didn't catch her name but on the evening of Friday 11/27, I came in with a buddy to grab some takeout burgers from the Funny Farm. She must not have noticed me at first because she was having a conversation with a couple regulars (a shorter tubby fella and an older bar fly type lady) about Asians. Full disclosure: I'm an Asian guy. I admit I didn't hear 100% what was being said but I did hear "Asians" peppered throughout the conversation. They could have been praising the Asian community for all I know but come on: let's be real. When the bartender finally noticed my beautiful black mane and piercing brown eyes, she quickly extricated herself from the trio's discussion. And with one leg missing from the stool, the conversation quickly petered. When I got my burger, I said to the remaining gentleman at the bar: "the Asian is leaving". With nary a glance, he slunk off to the bathroom so fast he almost forgot his phone. I have never seen a guiltier slink in my life, and this is from someone that has dated immoral ladies in the past. Three stars because the burger and tots were on point, and the owner of the bar is actually a very hospitable man.

Don't judge a book by its cover! The bar may look sketchy and it may not be inviting you to get in! But if you manage to pass the door for the first time, you will go back for sure! Chef Ron created a diverse menu and executing each item to perfection every time! Veggie Burger is out of this world! The melt sandwich is to die for. Bread is toasted to perfection and the amount of cheese is well balanced! Everything is delicious but not greasy! Even the fried chicken sandwich! Totally recommended! Do yourself a favor and try!

The drunk bartender Katrina is always rude. She will say no to certain drinks just because she doesn't want to make them and gives dirty looks. She opened up a tab for someone who didn't even open up a tab. But if I want my drink done right I have to wait a long time for the chick that shows off her tits to everyone. I keep giving this place another chance even though I have a horrible experience every time. I give up, this place is ridiculous. Bartender should not be drinking on the job.

We walked into this place and didn't expect much although they exceeded all expectations. The environment was incredible and friendly. The food was far beyond bar food, it was actually very good. Highly recommend the calamari which is usually scary from a bar. It is actually made fresh and is good quality. They also have pool tables and darts with TVs lining every wall. Great place to get good food and drinks while watching the game.

Friendly family atmosphere. Food was good. Drinks were strong. (Just how I asked them to be) At no extra charge. Service was fast and attentive. A must do again. Even the other patrons treated us like family

For a bar this place has some amazing food! I got dragged here last weekend by some friends and being pregnant a bar was pretty much the last place I wanted to be, that is until I saw the menu. I ordered the 4 cheese grilled cheese with steak fries and it was amazing. My friends raved about their burgers and tuna melts. I helped them eat their garlic fries and onion rings which were all fantastic. As a group we ordered the special "latke bombs" which are potato balls stuffed with cheese, I'm obsessed with poatatoes and cheese at the moment so they were perfect! Chef Ron came out and talked with us, who would have thought an actual chef working a bar kitchen but he said he created specials all the time and they are now doing door dash under the name "funny farm". I cant wait to try them out!

Now that Funny Farms finally opened a second location, I can finally put how I feel about the Sidelines without feeling overly cautious about being bothered by the bar since I mainly go to the new location. The three stars only go to the Manager, the one who runs the bar and makes sure that the bar is stocked. When his at the bar, HE IS ALWAYS CONSTANTLY MOVING. I never see him stop, his always working on something. Even though I only ever came to eat at Funny Farms, he always made an effort to talk to me in a positive manner. Asked if it was too dark that he can turn some more lights on. If he can take some of my food tray away, I always cleaned up after myself and friends so I always politely declined. Always super cautious about the back door unlocked or locked. I park in the back and the door is usually open. But if someone is disorderly, he always tells me when I let my friends in when the door is locked, to keep it shut just in case the drunken disorderly people try to sneak in through the back. He does his best and I wanted to give him some recognition. I also liked that they had a motorcycle Fundraiser group, that was really fun to be a part of. Anyways here we go. One of the reasons why I held back with giving a review is mainly for a few bartenders that always gave me the dirtiest look. The fake greeting, the not serving me water when I ask, giving my friends and I a mean look because we don't order drinks at the bar. Few of my friends even got drinks to help lighten the stares so I felt more at ease, but they shouldn't have to. I haven't been there for months, it seems that from other Yelpers, that they fired the problem bartender? Maybe I'll be back. It is still closer to my house relatively. Also some of the reviews about the food should be directed to The Funny Farm Kitchen if anyone reads this, that had put their reviews for the Sidelines. Thank You Sidelines, for keeping the seating area clean. Getting rid of the rude bartender. And for introducing the South Bay to Funny Farms. Also is there a way to turn down the music? It gets so loud in there, burst some ear drums.

Review edit, 11/2/18 So I was contacted by the real Elena, and verified who she is. Turns out her 'co-worker' Angela decided to use the name in the board from the night before when I asked for her name. So Angela is also a liar who will throw co-workers under the bus? How she's not fired I have no clue, at least I know to call ahead and see who's working. Cuz I love Funny Farms food! This is not a review of Sideline, but a review of Bartender Elena who really doesn't deserve employment. I have had so many great visits to this establishment, but how this woman is employed I have no idea. We arrived at 4:30pm and grabbed our usual table. I walked up to the bar, twenty in hand, ready to get the night going. Bar was semi busy, but not jammed. First round took almost 10 minutes to get. I asked about turning on the World Series pre game in one of their TV's. I was told "It's gonna be a while....". At about 4:50 I asked again and was told to "Wait, she was busy". (She was busy discussing the tattoo inside her lip with a guy she was giving her number too on a napkin) 5:05pm, this place has 'Sports Bar' in its name, game 3 of the World Series is minutes away. Our exchange: Me: Would you like to sell some liquor for the place you work? Elena: Yeah give me a few minutes... Me: ....and can we put the World Series on? Elena: Do you want booze? Or sports? Me: it's almost first pitch, I'll order drinks, but can we put the World Series on 1st? Elena (turns to other customers): what do you guys want? Customers: We want to see the World Series too, can it be turned on? Elena (turning to me): You know the jukebox turns off if we put the game on! Me: Turn off the jukebox, it's my songs, PLEASE put on the World Series! This is a 'Sports Bar' right? Elena: You're being a dick I'm not serving you.... I pick up my jacket..... Never swore at her, she swore at me. Was never demeaning, I was there to spend money all night..... Thanks Elena! We went to the Hideaway and spent over 150 dollars on food and booze that would have been spent at your work. How your bosses put up with you is confusing to say the least! Horrifying service! Unacceptable! This employee should be unemployed! I'll be back, I'll call first to see who's working because she's a horrible employee!

Worst bartender, super self absorbed, Rude, Slow, only seems to care about her regulars. The self proclaimed " Beautiful disaster" will stand outside and smoke a cigarette while customers wait at the bar. And I've been there many times, same thing from her.I don't know if the owner realizes this but he's got a nice gem there. Great location, pool table, darts, new food that's actually pretty good, He just needs a better bartender, because it makes me not want to go spend my hard-earned money there, many of my male and female friends alike agree. She needs to go!

Terrible service, terrible food. Don't waste your time and money here. Might as well go to a place that appreciates your business, so many options out there. BEWARE

Ashley is hands down our favorite. Rachel is amazing. Ron and Scott make it safe. I love our local bar! Friday night is karaoke. If you're looking for a place to chill and relax after a hard day of work, this is it. Pool tables, darts, and shuffleboard. If Funny Farm is open, they have great food!

Only put one star so I can review. Just left. Sat....ignored for 15 mins while bartender drank with her friends. Terrible. Never felt so unwelcomed in any bar ever. I drink doubles...tip way too well to get that service. Avoid this place. Plus it smelled like sewage at the bar. Buyer beware... If her friends are there...youre not drinkin...

I had not read reviews of this place before stopping in with a large group of coworkers looking for a casual spot to hang out. After reading views, due ot my shock, I can confirm that many of the reviews below are totally accurate: The small blonde older waitress (who looks like shes had "a hard life") is a total complete jerk, will not serve you, will not acknowledge you, for a loongggggg time, until she is practically forced to. And then she might just walk out and take a smoke break before offering you a drink. It's literally insane how long it took my co-workers and I to get drinks when there were maybe 12 people inside the bar (our group was about 20). When we did get a drink, mine was terrible. Not only was this server one of THE WORST severs, she intentionally turned on hard metal band music, liekly to "drive us out," when the music on before we arrived was much more mellow. The "Screaming music" lasted over an hour. WORST of all, this woman is a total RACIST and should be fired immediately if this place truly is under new management. She went on a diatribe about people of color, people who try to speak to her when they dont speak English (using many expletives in this racist rant), when there were a number of people of color in our group. It literally does not get more inappropriate than this. Management, please listen to your reviews and replace this person with someone that has more human decency than this. The only thing that justify the mandatory 1 star (instead of 0), is that it does have a SHUFFLEBOARD TABLE (these are too hard to find these days!), and the new owner brought back food, which I hear they did not used to have. The place would improve DRAMATICALLY if you replace this nasty and vulgar bartender.

I've always got sort of a hostile vibe from this place, and today they played some racist David Allen Coe songs when I came in with my girlfriend, who is a person of color. Obviously won't be coming back.

Horrible service and the blond lady who works daytime day shit is a clown. She is horrible at her job and I've seen her kick out people for no reason but let the drunk regulars stay. While letting the regulars leave hammered. She works day time and she kicked my twin of because she looked like me. My sister had no idea what what going on. She kicked out my twin bc she looked like me, my twin has never been there and the blonde bartender told her she's isn't allowed in there

If your drinking watch for your bill. Spent two hours 4 beers 4-5 drinks over $100 not cheap or bartenders giving you the ??? Food is good but watch for the drink tab.

Don't be fooled by old reviews. If you've been here before, go back. If you haven't been in before, go. This place was a kick. The food is top notch from BBQ Tim, from The Ultimate BBQ (theultimateBBQ.com). Yes, this is a neighborhood bar, so you'll encounter regulars, so be nice they'll accept you and you will enjoy great drinks, pool, darts, sports and great food. Don't bring a bunch of attitude in, you're new, this place isn't. We went in to see some friends and check BBQ Tim's new digs. We were greeted with a great cocktail and a plateful of delicious food. Never even looked at a menu. Tim just brought us out some ribs he'd been preparing, with homemade baked beans that were like dessert, potato salad and grilled garlic bread. He also let us sample some of his famous tri-tip. You probably won't get this kind of sampling (it helps to be friends with the cook) but you will get delicious food no matter what you order. Check them out on Facebook too! I know it sounds like I work for these guys, but I don't. I'm friends and I think good work and great food should get recognition when it's due.

i absolutely love this bar !!!!! you have 2 amazing ashleys that work there as the bartenders they make everyone laugh and have fun at at least come here 2-3 times a week ! also your kitchen statf here is also amazing !!! i couldnt imagine a better home bar !!
