8 reasons to visit one of Bali’s best-kept secrets - SilverKris

"Emerald-hued rice terraces zigzag across the valley and have been deliberately preserved by the local banjar to benefit the community. The best way to experience them is to start at Pucak Luah Santi and follow a scenic 3km track through seasonal paddies, finishing at a hillside viewpoint where Mount Agung dominates the skyline. Entry tickets are purchased from a small roadside bamboo-and-grass hut and guides are available for visitors who want insight into local rice-farming life." - Penny Watson

The best Balinese region for short or longer walks and hikes, offering amazing views over rice paddies and the Sidemen valley. It’s easy and walkable even for beginners; just wear sturdy sneakers and bring your camera. There are quite a few restaurants nearby with magical views. You can pay 25k IDR per person at the rice field track or explore your own path around the area. You’ll also find decent and inexpensive accommodations close by. Most are small guesthouses you can find on the Booking app. Just ask at reception for a good deal, it might turn into a win-win. Connect on IG for more travel and yoga stories: @rob_globetrot

An absolutely stunning experience! For me it was the most beautiful tour in Bali – the rice fields are simply breathtaking. Walking through the terraces is so peaceful and scenic, and you can really take in the beauty of the landscape. What makes it even more special is that it is not crowded at all, so you can truly enjoy the calm and natural atmosphere. A real highlight and highly recommended!

***Very cool and scenic trekking route through the rice fields of Sidemen. Unfortunately, Sidemen is struggling with a serious waste problem.*** The entrance fee is 25,000 Rupiah per person, and the trail is about 3 km long. The second half of the walk is especially beautiful, so it’s definitely worth completing the full route – although I’d recommend wearing proper shoes instead of flip-flops. One star off, unfortunately, because of the amount of trash along the paths and in the streams. Sadly, this is a widespread problem in Sidemen: many locals dump garbage bags directly into the river or on the roadside, and this really needs to change. It feels paradoxical to walk through such stunning, peaceful nature and then see plastic waste at every corner. Very sad. :(

The rice terraces in Sidemen are absolutely stunning. A wonderful round trip takes you through the terraces, offering breathtaking views along the way. The path itself is easy to walk, but since it follows the water channels, you should be sure-footed. The landscape is simply amazing.

We had a great, but long guided walk around the rice terrace. Our guide was a local employed by our resort, and he was a hoot! (shout out to "Norman' from Samanvaya:). We started right from the resort and walked through what felt like a mini-forest (with mosquitoes) to see another local rice terrace, and then finally got to the entrance of the Sidemen rice terrace. It had been raining for a couple of days, so the 'path' was muddy and slippery. I say path because at times it's a narrow walkway that drops off on each side. It's not a difficult walk, but you definitely need to keep a heads up. It was great to get the back story of the terrace from a local, and enjoy a coconut juice along the way. It's fine to do the walk by yourself, but it really enhances the experience when you hire a local.

A great way to experience the rural life of Bali and contribute to the community. For a very low price you walk through rice paddies and observe people living their lives. The trail is easy to follow and well maintained. Halfway there is a warung so you can stop for a snack, lunch or a drink. Make sure you keep going after the warung - a few people just went back the same way. The trail is a little bit harder after the warung and would be slippery after or during rain so be careful. We would highly recommend.

The real entrance to the location is a little bit difference, around 20m from the pinned location but you ll see the sign in the entrance of the rice terrace. The view is just exactly like what you see in the picture. Very quiet, refreshing and relaxing.. especially if you get used to the crowdedness of a city life... You ll love the vibes here..
