I am dog lover and glad it’s pet friendly and the location is great. However the down side is we found dog footprints on the sheets and we couldn’t sleep well while worrying about the tidiness of the bed. We did put complaint to the concierge and just got “we will notify the housekeeper”. These words do not make up for our terrible experience!

Great spot with a fun lounge for drinks after a day of exploring and a really amazing gym for a hotel. They text you to make sure your stay is going okay and if you do have any issues they fix it for you immediately. They also offer a simple drop at your door breakfast that is part of your stay that includes either a donut, instant oatmeal or a hard boiled egg, and each comes with your choice of juice and an apple or an orange.

This hotel was very clean and nice! Has been updated as well. We had friends that were staying in the adjacent RV park, so very close to walk over. The room was a great size, nice bed and loved the pillows! The shower, even though updated, needed the glass partition a bit longer as the water splashed all over the floor. |Breakfast app was kind of hard to use, but we figured it out and it was very convenient. Loved the coffee station in the lobby too. Would stay again!

We booked a room last minute for the Friday night of Thanksgiving weekend. It was one of the few available in the area that had two beds and it cost $350 because of the popular travel date (not out of line with other places that night.) It was NOT a $350 room! It was very loud. Many of the hotels in Buellton are next to Highway 101, but in our room it sounded like the door was open even when it was closed. The shampoo dispenser was empty - not a fun realization when you are wet. Breakfast is free but meager, if you can get it, as there was no breakfast delivered to our room. (They only had one order in the system even though we placed two (one for each person), and it still did not arrive.) I'm sure they were busier than usual, as the parking lot was full. The clerk at the desk on checkout was completely unapologetic, and didn't offer a receipt, just said to put the key cards in a basket while looking at her computer monitor. On the plus side, the room had a Keurig coffee maker with 4 pods and 4 Coffee Mate creamers, a microwave, and a larger mini fridge with separate freezer and fridge doors. They also serve complimentary coffee in the lobby. There were plenty of towels, though I'll warm you that the bath towels are small, almost not long enough or wide enough to wrap around a size 8-10 female body. The restaurant/lounge looked kind of cool with a fun mural on the wall, although we didn't eat there. While in the area, be sure to take 15 minutes to visit the ostriches nearby!

Nice remodeled rooms. Staff was great! Had a light burn out and maintenance was there within 5 minutes to replace it. Katie at the front desk was very friendly and her recommendations were spot on! I spoke with Daniella on the phone, the day before my stay and she was also very helpful. Would recommend to others and will definitely stay again

My daughter booked this hotel and I was skeptical because the rates were much more reasonable than other hotels. I was so pleasantly surprised! I loved it! The roons were a great size and very very clean! The atmosphere was adorable! We loved the windmill! We enjoyed sitting at the fire pits at night and breakfast on our door in the morning! I would totally go back!

Affordable, comfortable, convenient, and well kept hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. The fire pits are perfect. The pool area is kept clean. The bar lounge had good drinks and I received great service. They have good food. Staff was very nice.

Spent one night here on a Travelzoo special - so rate was decent. Location is close to the Hitching Post 2 - where we wanted to have dinner so that was convenient and it is right off the freeway. Rooms have been remodeled, but I found the lighting was not great - the room was dark. There was a nice small fridge with a freezer and a microwave. Flat screen TV of decent size. Walk in shower. However, found the bed uncomfortable - it sounded like the a spring was broken or something. The shower pressure was not great (but lots of hot water). The included continental breakfast was not very good - we had the hard boiled eggs and they tasted funny. Orange was OK as was the juice. Better to go to the lobby and grab a donut (didn't realize that was an option until check out). Rooms - not for the light sleeper - we heard everything from the rooms on each side and everyone walking by (we were on the 2nd level) - at times it sounded like an earthquake was going on. Very loud. Also note no elevator. Room was clean but maintenance could be better - neither the remote for the TV nor the ac/heat worked. Had to call front desk and it was responded to quickly - just needed new batteries. Positives - dog friendly hotel. The bar/lounge was nice. Did not eat there but the drinks were good. Pool area nice. Location - not a lot to really walk to other than a strip mall and gas station - more a drive your car location. The signage to enter the hotel was small and we missed it. Would have liked a better sign. Front desk staff was nice and friendly. Would I stay here again? Probably not due to the poor sleep quality/bed and noise and the not really walkable location.

Yelp
Although not perfect, the Sideways Inn has a lot to offer. Our room felt fresh, nicely decorated, and a comfortable layout. The lobby and bar were cozy and inviting. It is right next to "flying flags" a motorhome destination, and we were told that you could use the facilities there also, which would be a secondary pool, playground for the children, and games. The thing that makes the Sideways Inn a stand out is the price! We stayed here on a Travelzoo deal, and I have to say it was an unbelievable value. If you are looking to have a resort type getaway, perhaps this is not your place, but if you are coming to enjoy Solvang and wine tasting And won't be spending a ton of time in your room, then you will be delighted with the Sideways Inn! My only negative about the property is that it is right on the freeway and I was very concerned that it would be very loud at night. Once your door is closed, it is very well. Soundproofed and noise was not an issue. if you are sensitive, you should ask for a room on the bottom floor and on the backside of the hotel. We had a great time on our little getaway, so is actually a lot of fun, especially if you go midweek when the town is empty!

Yelp
The rooms are nice, clean and comfortably outfitted. The bed was so comfy!! The staff were all cheerful and helpful. Special shout outs to Katie at the front desk, Daniella (she helped me on the phone, before my stay) and Jason? I think... Katie's recommendations were spot on. We had a great visit to Solvang just in time for the Christmas light show in the park. Thanks Katie! We had a light go out in our room and in less than 5 minutes Jason (I think) was there to replace it. Would definitely stay again.

Yelp
This place has received a lot of updates since it appeared in the movie Sideways - including the name, as it used to be called The Windmill Inn. Our room with a king size bed was clean, comfortable, and functional. It had a microwave, fridge with a separate freezer compartment, coffee maker, TV, desk, 2 armchairs, and more. There were a good amount of power outlets, and the free WiFi was fast enough for streaming. Noise isolation was not the best. While none of it was excessive, we did hear noise from a contractor crew chatting outside for several hours, people walking above us, plumbing noise from neighbors, and the muffled sound of the TV next door. Complimentary breakfast items are delivered to your door in the morning. You place your order the day before and you can select the items you want and the time you want them delivered. While nothing fancy, it was nice to get some basic items like oranges, eggs, orange juice, and a bagel. The common amenities were the best thing about this place. The lobby is really charming and makes a great first impression. The central courtyard has a pool and a couple fire pits, perfect for lounging. The fitness center was the second best I've seen in any hotel (the best being at the Hilton Tokyo Bay). The fitness center has several cardio machines including rowers, treadmills, ellipticals, and air bikes. There's also a squat rack, free weights up to 75 lbs, medicine balls, kettlebells, a punching bag, a couple weight machines, and more. This equipment selection is leagues above your typical hotel gym! 4.5 stars overall, rounded up because this place clearly takes pride in what they do. And the price was reasonable for the level of amenities. Maybe next time we'll see if we can get a room on the second floor!

Yelp
Their "drop and knock" breakfast is the bare minimum. They only have serve sausage after 5pm for other food items. They do have a nice gym and comfy pillows though.

Yelp
I've stayed at alot of random places. I was ever so pleasantly surprised here. VERY clean room, good amenities (regular size soap and lotion on the sink), regular size soap in the shower, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and ice bucket. Noise machine! Whoever thought of that is genius. The air worked perfect. Bed firm and comfy. If you get chilly you can ask for an extra blanket as none are provided. Overall for the price 10/10. CLEAN AND COMFY. Also, I really love that you can open your door right to the outside. Lovely chairs for late nights or morning coffee. Lastly, I am so impressed with the art on the wall showing the history of this beautiful valley. Thanks for a lovely midweek stay. Will definitely return. Update: wrote the review while still in bed. Checked in late and was asked what we would like for breakfast. Delivered to our door. Fresh donuts! Fruit, hard boiled eggs, juice with utensils and condiments. Lovely checkout experience. Fresh hot coffee in the lobby (along with more fresh donuts). HIGHLY recommend staying here. Dog friendly as well.

Yelp
If you are looking for a place to stay near Solvang, this is the perfect hotel! The room was so nice; The beds were comfy and the renovated decor was so charming. I think the sweetest touch, though, were the fresh local donuts that were brought to our room in the morning. We will definitely be returning!

Yelp
This place is cool when you walk in to check in to get to the point they offer you your room no hassle whatsoever. We got to the room. The beds seemed clean. The dogs were sniffing around like crazy. I put puppy pads down just in case they were accidents, I put the black light on because I usually carry one with me to make sure the rooms are clean before I lay down on the beds and there was dog piss everywhere. Inside of the bathroom, there was residue of dog poop that wasn't wiped off all the way so that was kind of disturbing. I was getting in the shower. There was no body wash. I use the shampoo for body wash. I believe it was lavender. I'm allergic to lavender so I was itchy. I didn't notice I put it on so I use the conditioner to clean my body of that obviously from there was itchy. The neighbors at night or ridiculously loud the children were running around screaming knocking on the doors. It sound of life, but I'm pretty sure it was the wall. This is happening all night. When we checked in, they informed us how to order breakfast. I ordered breakfast. It did not show up the next morning until we went downstairs. We told them we can't do this again due to the piss all over the room and there were dark spots on the carpet as well. I informed her that we didn't get our breakfast so they did get it for us. I rented the room for 2 1/2 days. They only reimburse me 25 bucks. That's not really you know good business. I honestly don't believe but whatever I will not be staying there again.

Yelp
Super bummed to write this review as we were really looking forward to staying at the Sideways Inn. Being super fans of the movie we thought it would be a fun experience to stay at the same place. It has definitely had a makeover since the movie which is great as it is not the dungy looking hotel in the movie. We checked in by a friendly staff member (sorry forgot the name) and loved the lobby area that had snacks and fun Sideways Inn apparel which I knew I would be purchasing later on. We get our room and it is just OK, we don't need anything fancy, just a comfy bed, a TV that works, and a decent working bathroom. The bed wasn't terrible as we never got a backache after sleeping so that was a win. The bathroom was rather interesting as the toilet was so incredibly low to the ground that it almost felt like it was a childs size. It did not seem to be a standard size at all. The shower was ok but it has a half door that was not desirable as all the nice warm air that a shower creates escapes into the bathroom. The TV was an absolute joke and we had maintenance come and take a look at it. They were super prompt and kind, but told us to unplug the cable cord and wait a few moments and try again. He said the cable on that area of the hotel (south east corner) needed a booster to really work. Granted, we are not going to be binge watching a show, but it would be nice to have something on in the background while getting ready to go out or before bed. Especially with us being there for the last weekend of the Olympics. There was also a serious hole in the floor that was just covered by carpet. We checked out by someone who could care less about us or our stay. We just got "you're checked out, drop the keys there" We happily left and did not purchase a commemorative shirt.

Yelp
Nice, clean rooms. The inn is super cute and the rooms are spacious. We got a corner room with a little seating area which was perfect for our family. Kids could run around and play. The "knock and drop" breakfast was awesome (oj, fruits, and Drover Doughnuts). This was our first visit to Solvang so when I booked the hotel, I wasn't aware that the Sideways Inn was a little far from the town. Totally driveable and close enough- just a little far to walk into town.

Yelp
Mandatory minimum stay required... Okay, so I was passing through the area and opted to stop there to sleep. I did not have reservations but they accommodated us with a room. Fairly plain, bed way too soft and for the price it was nothing special. Now here's what they don't tell you. They will mark you down for 2 nights and if you don't stay 2 nights, you are SOL. It is like a mandatory minimum stay kind of thing. We argued the point that we were not told about that and got half a day back. So beware.

Yelp
Sorry for the very late review as this is for our recent stay at the beginning of April Another place that has always been on my list and thank goodness we were able to visit in celebration of my parents' Golden Anniversary They were impressed and happy btw for the great stay The property is impressive and well maintained. We arrived past check-in time, so it was quiet in the lobby. Did I say this place is so cute I wish I got names of everyone we were in contact with because everyone was nice. And I appreciate that the Staff recognized why we were there (Happy Anniversary notes were left in our rooms) So I certainly appreciate attention to detail. Kudos to the Staff for that Our rooms were cute and clean. Loved that we had a balcony with table & chairs overlooking the pool. Did I mention faulted ceilings, what a plus.. so if you're planning a stay here, request a room on the 2nd level. Our only complaint is for the water pressure, that probably just reflects the age of the pipes, but not a big deal. We used our F&B voucher for the Sideways Lounge which was such an awesome spot to wind down and enjoy some snacks before catching some sleep. So why the 4 star review? Well, we were not entirely satisfied with the breakfast that came delivered to your door every morning. (you ordered via QR code that is in your room the night before) Wish there was an option for yogurt, cereal & milk, or a breakfast burrito (we had a microwave in our room and we could have warmed it ourselves).. hard boiled eggs and donuts and fresh fruit did it's job but we wish there were more options. Thank you for a memorable stay and if we ever venture out your way again, we would definitely be back

Yelp
Sideways Inn was the only dog-friendly place available in the greater Buellton/Solvang area that didn't have a number in its name. It turned out to be quite disappointing, especially for nearly $400 a night. My first room smelled like a dog park. The front desk staff kindly offered to move me to another room, which smelled slightly less like a dog park, just with a side of bleach. The bed was OK, the room was a little rough (in addition to the scent) and the shower provided warm to blazing hot to freezing cold surprises. The hotel made it clear that the room rate didn't include housekeeping except for longer stays. The rate does include a free mini-breakfast, which was comprised of a donut and an apple in a paper bag hung from the doorway. The saving grace, other than location, is the restaurant and bar onsite. Next time, I'm planning my stays in the area further in advance, and have greater appreciation for those places with a 6 or an 8 in their name.

Yelp
Tourist clip joint, look elsewhere. We made a reservation and tried to cancel it a couple of hours later and got dinged for a full nights stay. Obviously they are only interested in making a quick buck, and have no interest in return business. You can do much better in that area.
google avatar

Krist S.

Yelp
Clean, pool, bar restaurant onsite, staff was super nice. It's a good deal and close to everything at a reasonable price. Only thing I'd like is if you could go down for breakfast. They still are doing the Covid change of hanging a bag on your door with food in it. It's cute and quality items that are local, but I enjoy being able to get out of the room and pick and choose what I want exactly.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Great location near Solvang and Alisal Guest Ranch. Shopping center nearby in case you need something else. Very helpful and welcoming staff. Fire pits operating in the evening, cafe on property and Elaine's Pancakes next door. That was good too! All at a fair price. Will definitely return here. The only knock is the entrance driveway is a bit tricky when approaching from easterly direction. Just be ready to turn immediately after the signal.

Yelp
I'm so torn to leave this review. This place is super accommodating to dogs and I really appreciate that being it was our doggos first time out of town with us. From the park next door to complimentary dog treats and the poop bag stations throughout the property it was great. We booked 4 days during the holidays. Requested a room on the first floor. Room seemed clean when we arrived. All was great until my husband tried to heat some water in the coffee maker and it had roaches in it!!! My daughter kept waking up with itchy bumps on her back and I was too scared to check for bed bugs!! The staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the "breakfast" sucks it's less than a continental breakfast. I really wish that roach situation hadn't happened, main reason I can't give it a full positive review.

Yelp
Stopped off here for a nightcap after dinner. Cute quaint bar area next to the main hotel. A gastropub vibe with the plush seating. A nice big communal table with an amazing mural. Massive bar area as well as plenty of outdoor seating with a fireplace and heat lamps. It's pet friendly which is amazing. Both hotel and the lounge. Didn't get extravagant with drinks as we mainly juts went with a beer. Cool chill vibe. Beautiful property and location was great.

Yelp
I really enjoyed our stay here. A group of 4 of us were supposed to be in Yosemite over the weekend but they closed the park preemptively due to potential flooding with the high temps and melting snow. We pivoted plans and decided to head south instead to Santa Ynez Valley. We were able to book a spot at the Sideways Inn on Thursday for Friday through Sunday. I'll admit, I had lowish expectations given how reasonable the price was for 3 days (especially compared to in Santa Ynez / Los Olivos / Los Alamos). Plus while I'd spent tons of time in the valley, I'd never stayed in / nor did I know much about Buellton and what there was to do there. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. The hotel was in a perfect location - walking distance to restaurants, bars, and coffee and a 10 minute drive to anywhere else. There was a pool, hot tub, and fire pits to sit by in the evening. The rooms were spacious and clean and ours had a little balcony overlooking the pool. The old photos and decor were such a nice touch. The sideways lounge was perfect for grabbing a bite (pretzel bites, a ceasar salad, or some sausages), and had a great bar with fantastic drinks (recommend the paloma with nosotros blanco tequila). The staff couldn't have been nicer. We spent most of the weekend bopping around Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, seeing the wildflowers, and hiking Fig mountain. But this was such a perfect home base to come back to and jump in the pool, grab a drink, and sit by the fire pit. Overall, was such a funky, sweet little hidden gem and I'll absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway in the valley.i

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place I really tied. First when I booked I never got any confirmation. I had to call 3 times to finally get the confirmation emailed to me. Last minute we had to bring our dog with us because the sitter fell through. Which was great because they are pet friendly and they accommodate us. We requested for a quiet room which we got. It was quiet for the most part except when people are talking in the room Next door you can hear everything and I mean everything. You can be dead asleep then you wake up from a boom because the door next door slammed or the bathroom slider thing. The rooms are ok not bad but I was accepting a bit more for the price. The balcony/patio was filthy. The table and chairs look like they haven't been cleaning in who knows how long. The floor had food on it. Spider webs everywhere. Let's talk about the bed. If you have back problems or hip issues this is not the place for you. I'm recovering from a fractured spine injury and this bed was not it it aggravated my pain so much that I had to take my pain killers thank god I had them with me. The mattress is solid like a wooden board. I've seen some comments saying the bed is so comfy that's a flat out lie. I just couldn't wait to check out finally get to my own bed. We had came out to go to solvang but couldn't cuz I was unable to move due to the aggravation in my spine. When I went down to ask if all the bed was the same the girl just said yup and didn't ask why I was asking for anything. I was recommend this place my brother who has stayed her before. I should have read the reviews before booking. I just took his word for it. After booking I came to yelp abs regarded instantly I kept telling myself it will be ok it will be ok. I mean it was but it wasn't at the same time.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights, Monday-Wednesday, to spend a day in Solvang and a day in Santa Barbara. Found a coupon code on their website that saved us 20% which was nice. It was the cheapest in the area so we decided to go for it. The location is good and close to food and other activities. The rooms were updated and okay. The bathroom door is a slider and got stuck a couple times, which was annoying. The other odd thing was the lack of shower door, just a half piece of glass which left the bathroom floor wet; seems like a hazard, even with putting a towel down. The worst part for me was that door with built in blinds which still let in a ton of light at night. I typically need it DARK to sleep, and this door was not cutting it. Ended up covering it with a contraption using an extra blanket, the ironing board and a chair, which thankfully blocked some of the light. Someone else mentioned the air conditioning and how loud it was, which I agree with. It kept the room cool, but didn't have an option to leave the fan running and to cycle the air on so it would get warm quick and then kick back on and back off and with how loud it was, made sleep a bit difficult. Only interacted with one person when checking in, which was an easy process. They were nice.

Yelp
I would have said Five star a few months ago but it seems like maybe it's Not being maintained properly and the front desk people has gotten really bad. I was torn about writing this review but in the past I have loved this hotel but I called a few times to speak to a manager( I could not get a hold of them) and the front desk service was basically similar so I thought I should just write a review. I love the rooms ,the beds are super comfy ,they're very modern and clean and there is a little bar that is sort of attached to the hotel which is pretty fun. But the front desk was so negative and unprofessional the past few times and we've had some challenges with the maintenance of the property . I decided to write the review because Twice since the past experiences I've thought about booking but I have decided to go somewhere else just because I don't feel like dealing with negative service and bad vibes, it just sets the tone for a unpleasant and uncomfortable stay and really I think none of us need to deal with more negativity .

Yelp
Very dog friendly! We really enjoyed our stay at Sideways over the long July 4th weekend. We had a first floor room with a patio facing the pool and garden. The Adirondack chairs on the patio were a great place to relax in the morning with coffee, and the easy access to the courtyard was a plus for taking our dog out for walks. I recommend strolling through the adjacent RV park - they even have an off-leash dog park with agility equipment. The pool was busy but there was space for everyone on the loungers and the chairs. The king bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was spacious, with a fridge and microwave. The hotel location is close to a lot of attractions like Solvang and the ostrich farm. This was our second stay here and I'd definitely return!

Yelp
Don't be fooled by their false advertising of "breakfast included". Here's the deal: you scan the QR code in your room (no later than 9:30p the night before) and place your order for the next morning's delivery. You get to place an order for each person in your room. The options include a cold Everything roll (not a bagel), a pre-packaged cup of oatmeal, a package of two hard-boiled eggs, or a pre-packaged muffin, then either an apple or an orange, then either a Tropicana orange juice or a cranberry juice cocktail. The items are placed in a white paper bag and hung on the your door in the morning at 0730 at the earliest. This is definitely not what traveller's expect by " breakfast included". They do not offer daily room cleaning and will only replenish your towels, shower amenities or empty the trash on request. There is no phone in the room to call down to the office. There is coffee and hot water ( for hot tea or your oatmeal) in the lobby, but the coffee is too weak to enjoy. The attached lounge is dog-friendly, which was awesome. However it is NOT kid-friendly, so we had to sit outside, shivering with the other families. There is a fireplace and five mobile heaters, but three of the heaters were broken. But hey, all the folks getting drunk inside were nice on cozy. The food menu is severely limited, but everything was delicious : sausage sandwich, fried, pretzel bites, and the wings. It was too cold to enjoy, but the pool was well-maintained, there was a hot tub and a fire pit. The room was clean. The shower had a clear glass half wall. What an odd and inconvenient choice. At least this place is close to Solvang. They seems to be it's only saving grace. It is one step above a Motel 6. It still isn't a good enough reason to ever stay here. There are just too many negatives.

Yelp
Great stop on the highway of life in the wine country!! I've stopped nun a couple of times on my sojourns and really enjoyed the staff and setting, especially for the price!! Very convenient.

Yelp
This super cute hotel is a bargain if you shop around. Shop hard because we got a deal at $126 per night (2 night minimum). It's the perfect place to get a comfortable nights sleep and stay close to all your favorite wineries. Be aware that this place is a hub of activity for parties attending weddings, baby showers etc so people will imbibe well in to the night. Plan ahead and shop for the deal and you'll be very comfortable here.

Yelp
If only because you saw the movie go! It's been updated and is the only bar in that area. They have sausage in a variety of ways. The prices are pretty high for drinks but they can get away with that because of supply and demand.

Yelp
We were very excited to be staying at the inn because of the movie. Arrived promptly at 3 to only find out our room wasn't available. Reason that waa given, we were fully booked last night and haven't had time to clean the rooms. This was said by the girl who sat on the right side of the check in desk. She said could be 30 minutes, here's a coupon for the bar for each of you. Went back in 30 minutes later, room wasn't ready. Went back in 10 mins after that to the girl on the left side of check in desk, and she said, one just became available. Got us checked in only to find out the room was along the freeway side of the hotel on 2nd floor. I had requested quiet side of hotel on 1st floor. Had to wait until 4:30 to get into our room. I returned the coupons as we weren't going to eat or drink before our dinner reservations at 5, and after traveling all day, would have wish we could have showered before dinner. I asked her for a discount to our room, which she did some accommodating. The room itself was OK, smelled of bleach and cheap cleaning products. Had to leave the door open for a bit to air it out. The couch is in dire need of replacement,.fake leather thatbwas peeling and cracking and so is the sliding door felt unstable opening and closing. One would think what we were paying for our nights stay, albeit it was a weekend night, they would have enough money to fix up the room. Don't think we'd come back again unless nothing else was available in the area. We were just disappointed.

Yelp
I booked this location through Travelzoo and unfortunately had a poor experience during my one night stay. We arrived around 8 pm and we perhaps arriving late was our mistake. The Inn has a bit of a motel vibe but they did do some renovations so it's more trendy. The fridge and phone in the room didn't work unfortunately, so we had to use our personal phones to call the front desk. They also mentioned the lounge closes at 10 pm, however upon arrival at 9:30 I was told they were no longer open. They do include a small breakfast (fruit, juice, and pastry) and not you're trying to save then staying outside of Solvang - the Inn is outside of Solvang, so not in the downtown area in a town called Buellton.

Yelp
I have stayed at multiple hotels but this one was probably the best. Great amenities such as firepit, pool, vending machines, gym and a bar with snacks. The hotel decor has pictures from local museum throughout hotel and rooms. I loved the barn door leading to the the bathroom and tiles on floor. The accent wall color really makes the golden brass fixtures pop. Staff was amazing from time of arrival until our departure. If ever in the area I will be coming back to this hotel. Prices are not too steep considering I came during labor day weekend.

Yelp
In person check-in and breakfast orders - a big plus. We don't have smart phones and so we did not have to use the QR code to order our breakfasts. We just gave our orders upon check-in at the front desk. They have a frig. & freezer to keep our drinks & food cold. A lot of hotels don't even have them, anymore.

Yelp
We stayed at Sideways Inn during the Solvang Julesfest. The staff was very friendly and accommodating! I give them a 5! The pros of our stay would be the comfortable bed, the pretty courtyard scenery, the hot tub, and close perimeters for food. The rooms were clean and included coffee, waters, and the delivered morning breakfast which included the options of bagels, donuts, juice, and fruit. The cons of our stay is the noisy parking lot, the rooms don't have much of a noise buffer. You can hear people walking upstairs, car door closing late at night, talking, etc. which is a bit difficult since I am a light sleeper. The fan option on the air conditioning unit helped to provide white noise to combat the outside noise. The shower water smelt like ocean water/fish. I'm not sure if that's normal for the area... It didn't make or break our stay though. And the TV is not a smart TV. You cannot stream Netflix, etc. They have cable options which include HBO/Showtime.. Overall, it was clean and a good place to stay.

Yelp
Our choice of staying at Sideways Inn turned out to be good. It's a neat, spacey and comfortable location and property. The room was very spacious & all facilities such as the refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine were provided for. There was a nice spacious bathroom which had handwash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel. A basic but good breakfast (coffee, bagel w cream cheese, juice and fruit) was supplied to the room early morning. There was a regular supply of different types of coffees available round the clock in the lobby. Spacious parking and most of those have solar panels covering. The areas of improvement are, rooms can have better lighting, the bathroom sliding doors need a better fixing from the bottom, the duvet/comforter needs an improvement, the sheets are getting worn & need an upgrade. But the place is nice and is much recommended. Must try for your next vacation to Solvang.

Yelp
Solvang without being IN Solvang. The Inn is very close to Solvang but far enough so you're not in the crowd. The check-in experience was quick and they allowed pets! The rooms are large and parking was easy. While it's by the freeway, the place was still quiet. We never got a chance to use the pool, fire pit or the restaurant/bar but def. something we'll plan for next time. The only issue we had was the check-out experience. Since the place was listed as an Expedia VIP Inn, we expected a few things. Particularly a proper late check-out. I simply came by the lobby and asked if we could check out later. One of the females on the front desk gave a loud "sigh" and said, "we can only do 30mins". Without bothering to check what room I'm in. I just think that could have been handled better and if you have an negative attitude, maybe the service industry is t for you. Also, the night before, I checked if they had one bandaid at the lobby. They couldn't find any so I walked to the gas station next door and bought a first aid kit for $1.55.

Yelp
I visited more than 20 countries and traveled a lot inside the USA but in this hotel I had the most traumatizing experience ever. My husband and I spent one night there (from 16th to 17th of June 2024). My relatives spent 2 nights there (15th-17th of June). Staying there for 2 nights they did not have any soap, any cleaning and all their requests were ignored. But my experience there was even worse. The check out time is 11 oclock but for some reason the staff decided to kick us out at 9:30. They were super noisy outside naming numbers for check out and then a guy knocked my door really loudly and immediately opened my door. I was just after the shower so I immediately grabbed the towel to cover myself. He even did not apologize, went away and after that was standing outside and talking loudly in Spanish to the maid and laughing. We complained about this wild violation of our privacy on the front desk and were told several times that "we refund your stay". After one week there was still no refund so we called there and were told that they meant to refund some resort fees but not the stay! We insisted that we were told that our stay would be refunded then they told us that the manager would call us. Still no call...So beware! If you are not having clothing in the morning after shower you can have the staff opening your room! Their breakfast is simply horrible (for that piece of smth they brought to us we paid around 9 dollars and it was thrown away immediately being non edible). The shower is horrible too (simply just a little bit water coming out so it took forever to wash my hair). The most horrible stay I ever had in my life.

Yelp
This is such a lovely place with newly appointed rooms. Clean. Nice sheets lovely bathrooms So t let the "off the freeway" feel fool you. Loved staying here and drove 10 minute to Maddie's tavern to one of the best meals I've ever had. But happy not to be paying the $653 per night stay there hotel. It's the Sidways Inn for me!!

Yelp
The hotel looks clean but a HUGE security threat as we had NOT checked out of the hotel and was using the rest room, before checking out , and though the main door was fully locked and LATCHED , the service folks used the back door to gain access to the room while the guest was in the rest room ??? Miss managed or what ? AVOID this place to stay with your family as check out or not these guys access the room anytime they want to !!!! Weird and completely UNACCEPTABLE.

Yelp
Stayed June 16th & 17th, 2024. First, their pet policy: says on their website that "small companion" animals (under maybe 40 pounds) permitted. OK. We were driving across country because we were moving and we had our cat. I called to confirm their pet policy before leaving and told them we'd have our pet. No problem. Well, we get there and first, the room isn't ready. Fine. Finally we get in our room and we have a beautiful view of a stucco wall??? AWFUL. I'd have been fine with looking at the highway but a wall. Once we got into the room I went back down to the desk to pickup my wine that I paid for that they were supposed to leave in my room and mentioned that we had the cat and she says "oh no...we don't do cats". Come again?? I reminded her of the description of their animal policy on their website and she said "oh that means dogs". Jeezus lady just say ONLY DOGS on the website. She said she wouldn't say anything and she didn't but I was SO PARANOID for our two nights there. They don't have "Do Not Disturb" signs for the doors which I think is odd. The TV reception was awful. I understand it's really just a Best Western that they are dressing up because of the movie. But really they should have left it dated and retro like in the movie. Oh and they couldn't get our breakfast order right. And there's a big daily pet fee which I paid, btw.

Yelp
A pretty great gas station adjacent hotel, famous for being featured as the Windmill Inn or something similar in the Sideways movie. I happen to be a big fan of this movie and was super stoked to get Room 234, where the main characters of the movie stay and you get the same views of the pool, etc., and can almost match it scene by scene. The lobby is cute and there's a lot of parking, and some shaded parking. You check in at/around 3:00 pm and check out at 11:00 a.m. like most hotels. Most of the rooms are in a triangular shape around the pool/hot tub. Breakfast comes in a little brown bag of an individually wrapped bagel and cream cheese, a Yoplait yogrt, a Tree Tops apple juice, and an apple. The rooms come with the standard ice bucket, microwave, and mini fridge, so to toast your bagel you can go into the lobby where there's a small station of coffee, tea/hot water, and two toasters with a little tray of peanut butter and jam if that's how you like your bagels. The only small issue is its location: while central to Buellton and close enough to places like Industrial Eats, Andersen's Pea Soup, the Hitching Post II, and Ostrichland, it has a blink-and-you-miss it entrance that is immediately adjacent to a Shell gas station. Turning right into it is easy, but turning left into it or out of it can be difficult because traffic starts to stack up trying to get on the 101 on ramp which is also immediately adjacent. However, even at the longest, this probably only takes about 7-8 cars' worth of wait time before you're able to turn. Oh, also they have a good number of channels here, like HBO, but I wish they'd have a channel that just ran the Sideways movie 24/7 so we could appreciate the cultural significance of the hotel itself. Would come again, would recommend.

Yelp
BEWARE OF BOGUS FEES. I came home to find a $250 charge on my card. So I called up and Chris, the manager accused me of smoking in the room. I absolutely did NOT smoke in the room. I mistakenly left a cigarette on the table, but DID NOT SMOKE INSIDE THE ROOM. It would be another story if I actually did, I am a person of integrity. Funny how they can charge a $250 extra cleaning fee when the towels were stained when we got there, the bathroom walls had sticky spots with other people's hair stuck all over it, the bathroom smelled like sewage when we entered, it took forever for a warm shower, and the pool and spa are absolutely filthy. I did not complain about all that at the time but they have no problem charging outrageous fees. Beware of this scam place, this has never happened to me before at the many many hotels I've stayed at. Thanks for making my life harder & ruining our trip. $300 for one night at a place right next to a noisy car wash too. Unbelievable

Yelp
DISSATISFIED!! This looks great in pictures and the reviews seemed believable and fair therefore we have thought we'd stay. FOR THE AMOUNT THEY CHARGE, you'd expect it to be clean and updated. The bed itself was passably comfortable that's it. The floor was disgusting especially the bathroom floor. All the seats were dingy and gross. The towels were heavily stained. The walls are thin!! We had a better stay at the doubletree and home 2 suites up the road. For the amount you pay you're better off staying elsewhere

Yelp
Nice hotel and Great location when visiting Solvang! I would definitely recommend this hotel. Customer service was great as well.

Yelp
We had booked a 2 day stay as our condos as we were being resurfaced. The next morning we got a text that it was being cancelled. Be that as it may, the rooms were not we expected for 400.00 a pop plus a $50.00 pet deposit. Flooring not carpet. Our bed was hard as rocks. And there was barely enough room to pass between the bed and dresser (that was chipped). They had a free breakfast that would be dropped by your room after ordering. At any rate, no refund for the day we left and didn't even offer a refund on our pet deposit even though we were there less than 24 hrs.

Yelp
Okay, seriously! This place is a gem!! I was skeptical at first after reading the reviews but it's located in the perfect spot!! Right off the freeway, DOG FRIENDLY, state of the art fitness center, bar and lounge on site! Their lobby is the cutest thing I've ever seen and everyone working their is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are pretty updated and clean. Their website said their pool was closed, but upon arrival, their pool and jacuzzi were open!! This was our first time traveling with our pup and we're for sure coming back!! Right next door is their sister property the Flying Flags RV park, great place to walk your dog!! We also walked 6 mins. to Panda Express, Habit Burger and Albertson's. A complimentary breakfast is included.. you choose between a donut, hard boiled egg, or bread, you get a fruit, a juice and if you're traveling with your dog, a dog treat!! 8 mins. Away from Solvang?! I'll take it!

Yelp
We didn't have reservations and accidentally found this gem. Lovely pool side room with private patio. Inviting large firepit with plenty of seating. The staff professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Minutes to Solvang and easy freeway access.

Yelp
Well, this location was a bit more expensive than other locations in the area. It is more of an inn than a hotel, but it has hotel prices. We decided to go on Thanksgiving into Friday and we brought our toddler and our golden doodle. The accommodations were a little bit more sparse then we had anticipated. However, the front desk staff is excellent. We were greeted with a very pungent chemical smell when we first opened our room. The front desk assured us that it was a deep cleaning, and it would dissipate within an hour. I kept the window and the door open to thin out the smell. Within a few hours it dissipated. The only drawback about our room is the bathroom door. The bathroom door is a rolling, thick wooden door, which would not stay propped open, no matter how much I tried. (Other than that our upstairs neighbors were pretty loud, but I have no real complaints.)

Yelp
Cute motel-y place in Buellton, not far from touristy Solvang. The marketing and communication with them is wonderful. They texted me the day of my stay to ensure I will have everything I needed. Every staff member was masked up and stood plenty of feet away. They allow pets which is a plus for us. The rooms have a modern vibe to them and are decorated with historical photos of the area. They provide complimentary breakfast in the morning, where you make your selection on a card and clip it to your door the night before. It's not much of a breakfast, just freezer bagel, overly sweet yogurt, a danish and banana. But hey, it's free! Stars knocked down for a few things that might make your stay uncomfortable. The walls are super thin! I think we had a full conversation with the room next door and above. The blinds on the door also let in a lot of light even when closed. Finally, check your bathroom - towels had some grime and the toilet had a leak that whooshed all night. Not the best place if you're looking for a good night sleep but it works in a pinch

Yelp
A pet friendly two stories building, front desks was professional also very friendly. Room in good size, compact refrigerator, shower, vanity, desk, Tv, didn't find phone in room but everything else functioning well. You picked breakfast after check in, it'll delivered to door at the time frame you requested. Came with bagel cream cheese apple juice & a yogurt. Yes, I recommended.

Yelp
Always a fun spot to stay. Rooms are clean and during slow time can get a good deal. A huge plus is the onsite bar and sausage restaurant always nice after a day of work to be able to relax and walk back to your room. Great atmosphere all around.
