Siena is adjacent to, but not affiliated with, Blake Hotel (reviewed separately). Billed as an Italian restaurant, I would call this "Italian lite" or "Italian fusion."
Dishes include egg tagliatelle tartufo, bucatini with nduja sausage, egg pappardelle bolognese, lobster risotto, cacio e Pepe ravioli, and more. Other dishes include "branzino alla plancha," "half chicken," "NY Strip," "pan roasted pork chop,"
Apps include arancini, meat and cheese boards, eggplant, tuna tartare, burrata (I am so tired of burrata, it's so lame), stuffed hot peppers, and artichokes.
They also have wood oven pizza (but please, if you're going to get pizza in New Haven, get it at one of the famous spots, not here).
Online they have multiple iterations of steak and pork chops, but that was not on the menu when I visited on this Friday night.
I had the "Faroe island salmon," which was "fine." Flavor wasn't particularly amazing. Was served with sun dried tomatoes, spinach, and roasted garlic cream (that flavor really didn't carry through for me). I'm thinking I should have gone with one of the pasta dishes. But again, New Haven has an Italian neighborhood, so I think I would have been misguided in getting pasta here.
For drinks, I had the golden thyme (thyme infused bourbon, yuzu, gooseberries, vanilla, and raw honey lemon). I also had the rosy cheeks (herradura resposado tequila, cocchi bianco, campari, lime, cranberry, and sage). The drinks were pretty good.
Service was adequate but had a shade of nonchalance/neglect to it. He did fine, but I could tell he wasn't that interested in what was happening.
Not a bad place to eat if you're in the hotel, but I wouldn't traipse across town for it.
