Sierra Lighthouse Hotel

Through the years between 2000 and today, I have spend over 400 nights in the Lighthouse and was treated like family by all. From Manager Andrew and front desk Zainab to the restaurant and cleaning ladies. Security is excellent. The rooms are spacious and always clean. 24 hrs power. Always hot water. The Aberdeen Lobster is the best lobster served in Salone. Food is always of high quality but breakfast could have some more variety.

Nice hotel just by the sea in Aberdeen. Used to go there almost every Friday in the evening. Live music coming from talented band and delicious food from a big buffet. Grilled lobsters and sea food in general all included in the fixed buffet price. If I’m not mistaken around 12-13 USD

Has become my hotel of choice when staying in Freetown and having tried many of the others it is one of the best. Good views, good food and clean rooms - what more do you want? Wifi - it works really well but what most do not consider is that the internet in country is generally pretty rubbish. My only complaint is that on this trip they promised credit card payment which did not work when it came to checking out.

I secured a great deal for the Sierra Light House Hotel on Booking. The hotel accepts CC payments. In this case, the USD room rate will be converted to local currency. Surprisingly, the conversion rate is advantageous to guests, so paying by CC is actually cheaper! The ATM machine in the lobby (Rokel Bank) didn't work for me.||||My reservation was for a Deluxe Double Room with Balcony and Sea View, which was the cheapest room type available. My reservation specified the room featured 2 double beds. Instead, I was given a room with a single double bed, which was more appropriate, since I was traveling solo. Unfortunately, the double bed consisted of 2 single beds pushed together.||||The entrance to the room featured a comfortable sitting area with a sexy yellow sofa. I also had a desk, a TV and a mid-sized fridge with complimentary water. Even though my room was close to hotel reception, the hotel WiFi only worked in the salon, not in the bedroom.||||Next up was the spacious & well-appointed bathroom. Patience is required to have a hot shower, especially at night. The good news is that your patience will always be rewarded. The screeching bathroom ventilator was testament to the fact that even though the rooms are well maintained, they are also well worn.||||The bedroom featured a 2nd desk & TV, as well as ample closet space. The balcony offers magnificent views of the bay. At night, the Lagoonda Casino across the bay is illuminated. Since the bedroom is right next to the coastline, you can hear the waves crashing upon the rocky shore, which is a soothing sound to fall asleep to.||||Other reviews have mentioned the bad road leading to the hotel, so I was fully aware of that fact. But I figured I could get a taxi whenever I wanted to go out, especially at night. Think again! When I asked the security guards to call me a taxi the first evening, they couldn't. The only way to get a taxi was if a security guard walked to the main road and flagged down a taxi for me. Not wanting to inconvenience them, I decided to walk to the main road. Security assured me it was perfectly safe, even though it's pretty dark at night. Since I was walking, the rocky road wasn't much of an issue. But the fact that it was an uphill walk all the way made it a struggle. Throughout my entire stay, every time I wanted to leave the hotel, I had to walk up that damn hill. Oh, how I hated that bloody hill!

Currently living in Freetown and went to the Lighthouse for their Friday BBQ and buffet. It was a very good standard. The seating looks out over the bay with the Casino opposite - nice view. Had a band on which gave good ambience. |Plenty of food - fantastic lobster tails, pork steak, barracuda, prawns etc with plenty of salads and a very hot and spicy goat soup that was raved about but I didn't have it. Desserts were good, apple crumble tart and chocolate mousse. Le 150,000 per person. And wine is Le 150,000 a bottle. Will definitely go again and we were given a flyer for every Sunday doing a brunch buffet so will go and give that a try.

hotels in general in Freetown are challenging. The standards are not high. This hotel, despite its rating by others, has no real internet. It is a figment of your imagination. Over 50% of the time it does not work at all. The basic amenities you would expect in a hotel where there is a coffee pot, is coffee and bottled water. There is none of that either. ||The rooms are good size. But, the noise from the large dance floor in the restaurant is deafening.||The service is v ery poor. The air conditioning was on the blink, and it took forever for anyone to come fix it

The hotel is not functional for now as it is under renovation but the restaurant is operational. They have buffet every Friday and I tasted the best Sierra Leone foods here. A repeat visit with friends confirmed they are consistent.

I have stayed at this hotel for over a week during a business trip to Freetown. The hotel is located in a secluded part of the town. It is some 15 minutes walk from Lumley Beach. The taxi to the beach would cost you around 10,000 Leons ($2.5).||My room was facing the ocean and it had a nice terrace. Everything in the hotel is very basic and simple. The price for a single room was USD 132. There is an ATM at the reception where you can withdraw cash in local currency.||There is free wifi at the hotel but it is quite unreliable.||I have mostly enjoyed the fresh fruits served during the breakfast. The rest leaves a lot of room for improvement.
