Karura Forest is a hidden ecological gem within the sprawling urban jungle metropolis of Nairobi. Please allow yourself a minimum of 8 hours to sample most of the natural wonders contained in this park. Consider renting a bicycle 🚲 because the distances are significantly greater than you realize. Scope out an itinerary with Google maps and your cellphone's GPS in advance to minimize the chances of becoming totally lost and disorientated while navigating the park's labyrinth of trails 👣! Gates A, B, and C are circuitously connected; so take extra time to ensure that you locate the appropriate trail to return back to the proper exit gate to ultimately find your vehicle!!!🫣

- Perfect for taking walks, numbered trails and just serene - Can be chilly, so dress accordingly - There’s a parking lot if you go with your personal car Downside, there’s deforestation happening in some parts of the forest which is sad

It's always lovely to have a very good quality walk and feel the warmth of nature at Karura. Nothing can ever go wrong since it is nature. It is energising, refreshing, amazing, and beautiful. Full wellness pack!

I loved Karura Forest so much. I spent two weeks in Nairobi for work and I needed to connect to nature and Karura did deliver on all fronts. Once I went alone from Gate C and once with a friend from Sigiria. I loved them both but I might have enjoyed Sigiria more as it was so easy to get in and walk around. From the other side it’s so nice to get ‘lost’ (but never really lost as it’s all well sign-posted).

Lots of happy dogs, the trail is wonderful and there is a pond ( the dogs enjoy it). Best time to go is early morning between 7 and 9 am, after which the crowds come in ( on weekends) . Definitely prefer it to the other karura gates.

Amazing experience at one of Kenya's best preserved city forest ecosystems. It was packed with all kinds of amazing people; jogging duos here and there, endless lines of hikers enjoying nature walks, bike and ebike riders like myself. The trails were also well preserved, clean and well marked. The best first experience of many more to come. 🚴🏾‍♂️🚴🏾‍♂️

My go-to place for nature walks and cycling. You can hire a bike for Sh580/- for 2 hours. Better be there in good time to get a good quality bike because some are a beat ‘tired’ but you can still get some OK ones. There’s a decent cafeteria where you can grab coffee or a sandwich..

Great escape from hectic Nairobi. This side was my favourite - quiet, beautiful and calm. But you can cross the road into the other bit - just remember to keep your receipt when you buy your ticket. Gets muddy after rain so boots recommended. Oh and no plastic water bottles allowed in the reserve!
