A true gem tucked into the picturesque village of Lacock, Kiss of an Angel is an unforgettable experience housed in a delightfully crooked 15th-century English inn. The centuries-old architecture—with its slanted floors and time-warped ceilings—only deepens the charm, immersing you in a sense of history that feels both authentic and romantic. But the real star here is the restaurant. Their lamb preparation is nothing short of world-class—easily one of the finest renditions I’ve ever had, balancing rustic depth with elegant execution. Local beers and ciders flow generously, perfectly complementing the menu. Grab another round for the garden or upper floor den. Service is warm, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. As a bonus, my wife is vegetarian, and the plant-based dishes were genuinely excellent—creative, satisfying, and treated with the same care and intention as the meat-forward offerings. Not a single afterthought on the plate. Come for the charm, stay for the food, and leave already planning your next visit.

Lovely location and surroundings. Pretty garden to relax in and enjoy a drink before dinner. Nice menu and friendly, attentive staff. Dog friendly too. The pie, pearl barley and fish dishes were all delicious but the sweet potato starter was a little disappointing in both look and taste. The truffle cheese croquettes were extremely small and only three in total. Disappointed as not a fair size starter in comparison to the squid? Enjoyable evening.

We visited the Sign of the Angel for a cream tea and while the cream tea was good, £11.50 for two scones and a pot of tea, the angel board, ice cream and service were terrible. The whole experience ruined our time in Lacock. The angel board cost £21 and was tiny, the bread provided (3 small, thin slices) was not enough for the butter, oil and dip. When we asked for more bread we were told the angel board is a sample of the bread the restaurant baked. That’s all very well and good but for £21 I think they could have happily given two more slices without losing a huge profit. The three scoops of ice cream were tiny and partially melted for £8. For that price they could have popped a little chocolate flake or wafer on to make it look like something that was worth £8. The garden had nothing to control wasps ie wasp traps or repellents and then we were told off for trying to rid them ourselves. Service was slow, no one checked if we were happy with our meal. Ironically, in the most traditional village in the uk, we left cash for the bill only to be chased down as they only take card! All in all not a great experience and we won’t return.

I booked a surpirse weekend away here for my partner and do not recommend it. The room was advertised on the hotels own website as having an overhead bath shower. On checking into the room we found that was false. Instead, there is a bath and a separate hand held shower attachment. Even the on duty manager was confused stating they didn’t know where the shower had gone! We paid for a room with a shower, as advertised on their site. The bedroom door also has huge gaps (approximately one inch in places) around the main bedroom door. There is a curtain as a substitute. Whilst I appreciate this is an old inn, in my opinion this is far from ideal from a privacy perspective. Let alone the noise from downstairs and the corridor. The management will listen to your concerns, but in my experience came across very disinterested in offering any service to address these. We barely got an apology. Very disappointing. As other reviewers have commented, the cleanliness of the rooms also isn’t great. The bedroom carpets are worn and dirty. If I’d have known, I wouldn’t have booked.

We went to the Sign of the Angel for afternoon tea and it was definitely one of my favorite experiences of our entire holiday. The garden had such a beautiful atmosphere and the food was without a doubt some of the most delicious cuisine I have ever tasted. Everything was excellent, the servers were kind and helpful and we spent nearly 2 hours enjoying the food and tea.

Lunch only and first visit for some years although previously very regular visitor. Extremely disappointing. Understand we had not booked. Told curtly no space in garden and rather offhandedly given table nearest door. Garden tables remained empty all the while we were there. Friendly waitress but most uncomfortable chairs ever sat on in restaurant. No ambience. Ordered light bites platter. Two measly small pieces of bread, one of which was revolting! Whole place looked unkempt. Loos needed new seat and cleaning. I used to absolutely love this place as somewhere to stay and eat. Glad not staying this time. Man in charge (no idea if employee or owner) grumpy . Nothing but negative changes as far as I am concerned and although building could still be lovely needs more love and attention.

Though the wait staff was polite and friendly, they were clearly not at the right level for a busy day. We sat for 15 minutes before anyone even asked us if we wanted a drink, and then 25+ minutes to get our food. And, the food, while tasty, was not great value. You didn’t get a lot for the money.

Yelp
My only regret about eating here was that I can't eat here often. I contacted the restaurant about a month ago asking if they had vegan fare and they got right back saying they did. We made a reservation, to which we arrived slightly early. The place was empty (about 6.30pm), but by the time we left a few hours later, it was bustling. I had the vegan tempura starter, eggroll main (which I'm still thinking about), and the plum rice pudding dessert (which I sadly had to share with my partner). I'd eat all of it again. And again. And again. My partner had the scallop starter (on specials menu) which he describes as "divine". And he loved his lamb main so much that he actually started to pace his eating to make it last longer. Ambiance is beautiful, service is spectacular. With two starters, two mains, a pudding, and a bottle of prosecco, our bill was just over £80 - for the quality, we'd gladly pay that again in a heartbeat. I'd very happily come back to Lacock every time I'm back in England just to eat here.

Yelp
We had the best room in the inn. It was nice, very quaint.... However the toilet would not flush adequately, and the water pressure in the shower was absolutely awful. But it was nice considering what it is.

Yelp
Sadly the British are not known for the greatest food but there are a few places that serve traditional British fare with such attention to detail that the end result is truly a meal fit for a King. At the Sign of an Angle is one such place. Menu items include wild boar sausage, lamb's kidneys in Madeira and a peppercorn steak. Fresh ingredients, local cheeses and fresh baked bread round out the meal. 8 of us ordered about half the items on the menu and it was all delicious. After eating here one has to wonder why so many other 'traditional' English restaurants are so bad? If they all served food like this England would not have the reputation it does.

Yelp
Breath of fresh air. Great food, location and staff! A real hidden Gem. Lovely menu and daily specials plus a proper Sunday lunch!

Yelp
The restaurant was absolutely lovely. The staff was so attentive and the place was so authentic. We went with a big group and everything we ordered was amazing. The duck especially was spectacular.

Yelp
The food here is excellent. it's a busy little spot which can mean a bit of a wait by times. The staff is so friendly. Soups are divine! We also ate breakfast here, the full English is something else.

Yelp
Had yet another great meal last night at At the Sign pf the Angel. We don't go often enough to be classed as regulars, but this is always our first choice for a proper meal out. Prices are very reasonable, around £18 for the 2 course dinner menu (slightly more for a la carte), and the quality of food is first class. Yes, Lucknam Park and the Bath Priory are better, but are also considerably more expensive. I can't think of anywhere else locally where you'd get comparable quality food for for similar money.
