Sign Post Forest

The sign post forest was interesting and I found some Alberta plates, which was fun because our road trip was from Alberta to the Yukon. Enjoyed our conversation with the owner of the gas station. It was a good time to refuel as Watson Lake is almost midway between Fort Nelson and Whitehorse. I found a Prince George plate with 1321 km on it. If the Alaska Hwy drive is not your primary reason for getting to Watson Lake, there’s another scenic route of 1225 km through Hwy 16 and Hwy 37. I’d definitely try this route next time to get a glimpse of Bulkley River, Skeena River, Stikine River, Dease Lake, and the geologically exquisite Cassiar platform.

What an absolutely fun stop. This sign post forest is full of fun signs from all over the world. As of September 2024, there were over 120,000 signs. They count them every year. We made a sunflower sign and brought it with us. It was fun trying to find an empty spot to hang our sign. We spent a long time just walking around. The visitor centre that sits in the forest is no longer there. It is across the street at the Northern Lights Centre, which is a great place to visit. In the forest is a picnic table where you can enjoy your lunch or snacks. There is also a great parking lot at the back of the forest that can accommodate any RV. Make your sign, bring something to hang it (we brought screws and a drill) and take a picture.

Definitely a great stop along the Alaska Highway. Started by a homesick soldier during the construction of the Alaska Highway, it has grown to a huge forest of signposts, street signs, stickers, license plates and other methods of travellers leaving their mark. Fun place to walk around and of course leave your own memento. See if you can find our sticker when you're there.

This is one of the most unique experience while driving the Alaska highway or visiting Yukon. This place will tell you how far people have driven to complete the historic Alaskan highway. There is no rush hour I suppose, it just takes time to get a n empty spot for your sign. Carry your own hammer, nails etc and keep looking for side of the posts I’m sure you will find a sweet corner for your personalized sign. Don’t stick your signs on the trees, it won’t be counted. A fun, quirky stop when passing through Watson Lake, YK! It’s neat to browse the signs to see where others have visited from. It would take hours to see and read all of the signs. A must-see if you like unique (and free!) roadside attractions.

Otherworldly fabulous! It was fun walking through the famous Sign Post Forest in Watson Lake, YT, and to see various signages from all over the world! We even found one of our friends' Motorcade RV Traveling caravan posted sign, who visited this spot 8 yrs ago! Fun! ✨️

Displayed in a super friendly and walkable way, take your time finding the perfect one to relate to and admire! No admission fees it’s a free park for all to enjoy.

Great place to visit! Lots of shades and areas to walk around and explore, especially with a soft service ice cream from the store across the street! It's fun to look at different signs: where it came from and its uniqueness. My bf and I spotted a few toilet seats, bucket lids or random plates! Make it more memorable by bringing your own sign post and finding a place to hang it up!

beeline here, detour here! it's a spectacle for sure but a great place to let the dog out, let the kids run around and test your geography based on all the rows and rows of signs. i actually managed to spot an older couple who came prepared with their metal sign from texas, a power drill and a step ladder so it was fun to see someone adding to the collection. there's a lot of personality and intentionality behind all the signs and i doubt you'll see something like this in too many places on the planet. i really loved roaming around and to be honest, i didn't go along every path. you get the gist after roaming for a few minutes. the only issue that may be a disappointment is there's no bathroom or port a potty anywhere i. sight so if your stop here came accompanied with the expectation of it being a pee break as well, you're going to have to look elsewhere. otherwise it's a definitely highlight off the highway.

This was a must see that we read about before our trip. Next time through we will be prepared with our sign. I also want to let everyone know about Tag's Cafe / Market/ Gas Station a couple doors down. Was recommended by Beverly at the Big Horn and it was the best hot breakfast that we had in days. The food was fresh and the service was great. This is where you want to grab a bite before you leave town

I returned to Sign Post Forest here in Watson Lake, Yukon Territory, Canada. Welp, it was actually on my ALCAN (Alaska/Canada) Highway drive back to the Lower 48 states of the USA. But...I purposely stopped here this past Saturday because it was finally time to hang my signboard somewhere, deep in the heart of the forest! The first time I visited Watson Lake, I purchased a signboard from the local hardware store and decorated it as an imprint to leave within the forest. That's what everyone who comes to Watson Lake, does. It's sort of a right of passage, lol. Though...upon realizing that I needed a hammer and nails to post the board, the hardware store in town was closed for the day. So...instead of hanging around Watson Lake for an extra 24 hours just for the hardware store to reopen the following morning, I lugged around my board for roughly 3 months throughout my Alaska travels! Yep, the board sat next to me in the passenger seat without ever moving, as I ventured through Fairbanks, Anchorage, Homer, Valdez, Haines, Skagway, Juneau, 5 National parks, tons of glacial sightings, wildlife viewings and countless rainy evenings where I either camped outdoors or slept inside my car. In the end, finally being back here to Sign Post Forest, it was the penultimate, bittersweet moment...it was officially time to say goodbye to my traveling friend! What a journey. Thank you, Mr. Signboard, lol, for taking this unforgettable ride with me! So, yes, I found a small spot within the forest, got out my hammer and nails and said "so long" to my board leaving a footprint (in my eyes) from my time here in remote Watson Lake, Yukon. Btw, the sign read..."some birds weren't meant to be caged, their feathers are just too bright", quoted from the wonderful movie, Shawshank Redemption. And I believe that poetically captures who I am...as a traveler, explorer and adventurer. I have found my destiny.

Very cool park in the middle of nowhere to walk around and rest while you view the signs people and brought from all ends of the earth. Thousands of street signs and homemade signs have been brought to this spot, it's something to see. We stop every time we come through here.

So cool and so much fun!! This is an amazing place to stop and visit. Look for a city you know and love!

This is one of the neatest tourist spot along the Alaskan Highway. You could easily spend several hours there going over 73,000 signs brought from all over the world by tourist.
